  1. This will be my try to the GB bought for a tenner in my local second hand kit shop this is a real classic. This is the scheme I’m going to do it in. As you may have noticed I generally don’t do swastkas, I don’t have a particular problem with them on a model ( obviously having decent sensibilities and Jewish ancestry I have many multiple problems with the ideology behind the symbol, but I digress) however my nearest and dearest don’t like them at all, now on balance I find that it drives me towards much more interesting and off beat schemes, and doesn’t stop me building German WW2 types.
  2. This may well be the first ever model kit I built myself at age 6. The original one survived 3 moves but has disappeared somewhere along the years - I do remember re-re-re-re-repainting it until it was more humbrol paint than plastic. So: for sentimental reasons, I have one red-stripe box in pristine state & sealed. That'll stay that way. The other one will be an attempt at doing better than 6 year old me. What could possibly go wrong?
  3. A completion for the Harvard/Texan GB, this is a local aircraft for me. PH-NKD as she is known in her former life is an original WW2, 1942 built North American AT-6A Texan with C/N 78-6922, 41-16544. (stats: https://www.t6harvard.com/dutch-harvards/n13fy-t6-harvard-t6-texan/ ) Bought by an enterprising local business man, and registered as PH-NKD, the AT-6A was equipped with a Diesel tank in place of the rear seating from which the oil was injected into the stretched exhaust. Mr.Color Metal 211 Chrome Silver, Vallejo 71.078 RLM04 Yellow, Vallejo 71.124 Dark Green ANA612 for anti-glare, Mr.Color H58 Interior green (and generic black/white/red for details) Dropped the flaps, added ignition wiring on the engine, diesel tank in the rear and an extended exhaust from drilled-out sprue with scrap PE as brackets. Decals: custom printed white logo, registration letters home-made. And this is somewhere in there - the thick frames make pictures look silly if I put the canopy open
  4. Hi again, Britmodellers! Kicking off the first new build of 2021 (yes I know I'm supposed to be doing the Buccaneer, but!) with a subject I haven't seen since the early 80s. Shiny new BIG box with included paint and glue! (Plot twist - I'll be using my own ) I think the '50 Years' refers to the age of the kit rather than the aircraft itself. It's infamous for being designed from the pre-prod Harrier GR.1 XV278 which was at Gatow in West Berlin. The kit as produced means you can make that one unique airframe unless you are willing to make some modifications! It's a very big box for what isn't a whole lot of plastic: The kit dates from the early 80s which means chunky moulds, raised panel lines and soft details: This is the cockpit and seat as produced! The general shapes are 'a bit off' with the area immediately aft of the intakes being the worst culprit - more on that later. I can't fix all the various issues and to be honest I don't want to. This kit was a product of its time and it's the only game in town if you want an early Harrier in 1/32. That said, I want to build XV802, a 20 Sqn GR.1 which was lost in a fatal crash in Germany 1972 (there's a lovely pic of it in its shiny glory HERE ) so...there will be some surgery required - wish me luck! Alan
  5. All: Inspired by Adey M.'s beautiful Dominie T.1 in resplendent silver / orange finish, and after reading others' comments about what needed to be done, I set to work on my own example. Here are some of the changes I made to "update" it as a 55 Squadron aircraft: 1. Cut out two additional starboard side windows 2. Moved the main landing gear bays forward 5mm 3. Relocated the wing fences 10mm outboard 4. Inserted a plug in the nose 5. Detailed the cockpit, including curtain and crew figures from PJ Productions 6. Created engine intakes and exhausts from metal tubing and added compressor vane faces (from 1/144 707 kit) 7. Reshaped various bits, such as the tail cone, nose, etc. 8. Added doppler antenna 9. Re-shaped and detailed the main landing gear and nose gear. Since I've already finished the kit, I wanted to present an abbreviated version of the build. I airbrushed Vallejo gloss black primer base and metallics, and Tamiya Pure White from the rattle can. I was really disappointed with the Vallejo, which did not polish well and came off in strips, and ended up making fixes using gloss black Stynylrez, which is absolutely fool-proof. I then had more problems with the clear coat, Johnsons Clear, which began to crack--possibly because I airbrushed on too many coats without allowing adequate time in between to dry.
  6. Hello Britmodellers, Have a break....now there is the break in England vs. Colombia! Built ca. 1971 two times, Army and Marines. Only one survived. Paintbrush of course at that time. Because the heli wanted to repel the decals i sprayed varnish over by spray can few months later. Yellow mellow....OH OH! England, England! May our/your Klopp be with you! Cheers, Tom
  7. Hello Britmodellers! This is my oldy 1967er Hasegawa T-38A Talon, finished in 1999/2000, only one picture by me before this. Decals were altered originals and from Microscale. Pilot is borrowed from a Monogram F-15. It´s a German one in USA with a first solo flight, 60ties model and a hybrid between old Hase and the much better cockpit and spine section and other parts of an Italeri F-5F, wrong wingspan is greater now too, correct intakes are handmade. It can (without moving the front wheel) flip the rudder and make 5 mph while canopy open only by that (i loved Flipper and other dolphins so much), a little bit of a what if, mates! BTW the box: i was always and i am a non-smoker! Cheers, Thomas
