This is the ICM kit of Aeroflots TU144 in 1/144 scale. I have not done any research into the kits history, if the mouldings belong to a previous vendor or if they relate in anyway to Revell's version of the same - enlighten me please... At face value, the kit looks OK for the price paid (£20). There are the normal delta wing join issues (if you have built Revells 1/144 Concorde or 1/72 monster you will know what I mean) and there are some nasty sink dips. The surface is finely scribed with crisp surface detail and the kit offers a nose up or nose down with canards extended option. The 2 fuselage halves are particularly flimsy and needed tubing added in between them stop them falling in on themselves while assembling. My pictures highlight the wing join issues; I have inserted some internal plasticard stripping where the fuel would have been stored to pack this out and have almost eradicated the problem. I am not going to bust a blood vessel on this as the subject is not too much of an interest to me (we got it right with Concorde didn't we) and I am enjoying other civil things in 1/200 scale, however it is a nice distraction from my norm and the first Russian subject I have ever built. It is different and not often seen as a completed model. The subject really lacks the majestic curves of Concorde, and I get the feeling I am modelling an ugly troll who had a beautiful British (& part French)sister. Intended to be modelled posed touching down with canards extended, I have made appropriate alterations to the wing ailerons.- 29 replies

Revell has released two different kits of the huge Antonov 225. One has a complete interior and a landing gear. This one is the more simple version without interior and without a landing gear, so it can only be displayed in flight. I bought the decals from Revell which are normaly only delivered with the first mentioned kit. There is a stand included, but it is very short, so I made a construction out of the unused sprues to hold an acrylic or aluminium rod. The An.225 is far from being just "white". There are many traces of usage and on the bottom the normal "airliner traces" of dirt, smoke and oil. So I used a hard pencil to line out all the fine engravings of the kit. Sorry for the joint in the background, but this model is so big that my normally used foto background turned out to be way too small. Hope you like it!

This started life as the Revel Iron Maiden Book of Souls Boeing 747-400 with GE Engines. I replaced the power plant with Braz resin RB211 Rollers and used some Russian (cant remember the make) decals along with Authentic Airliners Revell cockpit glazing decal, I did not bother tarting around with the first class fuselage area nose correction on this kit but have done so on another 1/144 747-400 build which I am still working on which shall be wearing BA's Chatham livery (G-CIVI) A great fun kit, but the decals were a challenge as they all had a white solid lower stencil decal which was not printed in register to the colour decal that overlays it. Thanks for looking in, this was a nice change from my norm 1/200 civil stuff.

Hello I recently purchased some grey through to black pastels and weathering powders which I intend on having a go at grime and weathering effects on my Airliners. I’m not sure what’s the best technique to this. My other concern is how I ‘seal’ in the pastels and weathering once it’s in the finished model without it smudging or transferring to areas that I don’t intend it to. Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Alistair

Here is my completed Zvezda Boeing 777-31H/ER "Big Foot" wearing 26Decals Emirates colours. Built as a commission for a happy Emirates frequent flyer who wants to remember her most recent voyage in 1/144 scale. Not show standards, and quickly assembled in less than 7 nights. The kit is very well engineered, made better than the normal civil kit with a sensibly designed 2 piece whole wing assembly that can be plugged straight into the completed fuselage - ideal for shipping to the customer and reduces masking and filling by many hours. I'm not sure if Zvezda or 26Decals are at fault but the kits window spacing does not match the decals so the window decals had to be added in batches of 2's and 3's to marry up with the kits windows. Not really a problem but a big time waster. Having built the Minicraft 777-200 years back with costly Braz resin add-on parts, Zvezda's kit really does shame the alternative. Those whopping big Genny-Lec's (GE's) are a mini kit in themselves with superbly engineering forward and rear turbine blades. Minus the "Big Foot's" undercarriage, this model has been assembled as a ceiling hanging display. Having just built the same customer a 1/144 Emirates a380, the 777-3ER certainly is a true Boeing giant. and the previous commission for the same client Thanks for dropping in John

Following in the shadow of the arrival of BA's last Retro Livery into Heathrow this lunchtime today (747-436 Negus and Negus in 1/1 scale!) here is Hasegawa's 1/200 kit wearing 26Decal's BOAC 100 Year Centenary livery LaserJet printed decal set. I have replaced the kit's GE CFM's with a set of Contrails RB211 Turbofan Rollers in resin - they were OK but no match for the quality that Braz provides in 1/144 of the same. A great fun and up-to-date Civil topic to build, Thanks for looking in. KEEP CALM and BOW-AC ON ! cheers - John

This one is a 'What If' and just for fun. Intended really to put a smile on the faces of the true wide body tri-jet fans that loved the DC-10 series. Had she been kept by the airline, from this..... to possibly this (albeit a very tired and old aircraft and probably only good for dog food tins now), I bring you G-MULL Rock on the old days of cheap bucket seats. Pack 'em in at Gatwick and ship the family straight over to Florida ! A good fun build using Nazca, and F-Decals sets with the tail fin airbrushed and masked by hand Thanks for dropping in John

I'm scaling away from 1/144 to 1/200 over the next few months and back to some of my all time favourite builds from the Hasegawa Love Liner 200 1/200 range. I've been buying up as much of these civil kits as possible on the cheap from shows and auction sites over the last 6 months with the view to having at least 1 of these kits in production in the shadows while other builds take place; however I have taken a plunge and started 3 of these all at the same time this month without any plans to have anything else distract me in 1/144. Here we have the short range 747-400D, the 777-200 and the impressive 777-300ER which rather dominates the other 2 kits and is a constant reminder that the 747 is no longer as big a we used to think when Boeing was master of the wide body 4 engine production line. I will use the Pokémon decals for the -400D but have 26Decals British Airways Chatham colours for the -300ER and the intermediary Waves of the City decals for the -200. The 747-400D kit is 22 years old and has been a pig to get aligned when the fuselage halves went together compared to Hasegawa's later -400 moulded kits which are a dream to assemble. All windows have been filled as the decal sets I have provide the better option of window and cockpit decals. With all the main components now assembled, I am at the filling and sanding stages post 1 coat of primer. Thanks for looking in if this is the sort of build that interests you John

How about something off the beaten path? I have always gained insight and inspiration by watching other model masters at work, but even more so, from perusing their workbench. This may be a private and sacred place for some, but one can learn a great deal just by seeing another's place of work, where ideas come into reality, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles in model building are "scaled." So...let's start with my workplace...this is my model bench. Nothing too fancy, just a folding table with a large cut of hardwood to keep it steady and provide the room to work. On the bench right now is a Heller 1/72 scale Super Constellation, to be detailed and finished (someday) in KLM "The Flying Dutchman." While this topic is intended for civil airliner model enthusiasts, everybody is welcome...but...civil airliners pose their own cans of worms that are unique. Now...let's see yours!!

Hi Guys has anyone had dealings with LimaOscar decals ? I ordered and paid for some of there decals over a month ago,and as yet nothing, I have sent mails to them but have had no satisfactory answers, they are based in Poland , the home of Alexander decals, and we all know what they are like for "service" I just hope that my suspicions are unfounded and they have genuine reasons for not sending my order, UPDATE He has not bothered to answer my mail and there is no sign of my order, so I have started a dispute with Pay Pal for a refund. I am now wondering if these decals actually exist ? has any member seen any of them ?
