  1. Leather Colour Range Paint Set (A.MIG-7036) AMMO of Mig Jiménez This six-paint set arrives in a card box with a new card inner tray (for easy recycling), with some colour use suggestions printed on the rear (see above right), although on my example, it looks like there should be some text next to the swatches. Inside are six bottles, each containing 17ml of paint that is dispensed by a dropper found under the white screw-top cap. Inside each bottle is a little stirring ball that rattles when agitated, helping get the paint moving when you shake it. AMMO paints separate quite readily as you might already know if you have any of their range, so having a ball in the bottle makes mixing them a lot easier. We’re all familiar with the quality of AMMO paints by now, and they have a pretty good reputation amongst us modellers, and dry a little slower than some of the competition, which can be useful to avoid paint drying on the tip of your needle when spraying, or on your brush when painting figures, which might be especially useful for this set to allow blending etc. The paints are as follows: AMMO.F-508 Brown base AMMO.F-531 Light Brown AMMO.F-532 Red Brown AMMO.F-533 Dark Brown AMMO.F-538 Bright Orange AMMO.F-541 Rust Ochre Conclusion It’s great to be able to get sets of paint that will set you up to paint leather and other brown shades in one go with just the addition of some white and black to assist you with modulation if that’s your methodology. The paints are rich with pigment, brushing and spraying well with many adherents to the brand from all walks of modelling life. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  2. As per title. I could do with some help to find a shade of brown paint. For reasons I'll not go into I'd like a pot 'off-the-shelf' and not have to mix anything. Gloss, matt, or semi-matt/gloss, doesn't matter as it will get varnished over Acrylic or enamel The shade I require is a reddish or orangey tawny brown More reddish or orangey than Humbrol 9 Gloss Tan, but about that degree of luminescence or a bit lighter, but not darker I can get locally; Humbrol, enamel & acrylic Vallejo, Model Colour only Revell, acrylic only Tamiya, most, but not all in the acrylic range Any suggestions are welcome Thanks Fred
  3. Patrol Craft Fast (PCF), also known as Swift Boats, were all-aluminum, 50-foot (15 m) long, shallow-draft vessels operated in Vietnam primarilybby the United States Navy, Initially patrolling the coastal areas they later took to the interior waterways as part of the 'Brown-water Navy' where they carried out interdiction, counter insurgency, troop transport and special forces insertion. In total Eighty-four Mark I Swift boats served in Vietnam, with a further twenty reserved for training, however they are frequently overlooked in favour of their more heavily armed and warlike cousins the PBRs, Landing Ships and Monitors with whom they fought alongside. ..... The Brown Water Navy as a whole is rather overlooked in modelling terms, and the PCF is no exception despite it's distinguished service. As far as I'm aware the Revell kit is the only kit generally available and although being rather old (1967), quite basic (61 parts) and lacking in any type of interior detail it appears to be quite accurate and has some potential. .... For the princely sum of £20 inc p+p I now have 2 of these. I shall tackle one and hide the other for a possible future project (original civilian or demobbed perhaps)
  4. After consulting the colour charts (http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/colorcharts/stuff_eng_colorcharts_uk.htm) I bought XF-61 for my dark green and XF-52 for the brown. when I airbrushed the green on it looked far to dark. Almost a Luftwaffe green. The closets I came to seeing such a dark green was on this Spitfire The green on this build seems more realistic http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52316 Which matches I know screen resolutions and camera settings make a difference but if anyone has got some Tamiya XF-61 around I would be interested if they did a test. My disaster with plasti-kote mean I have had to stip my Spit down so before I respray I would be interested in hearing from others out there. I know colour has been a long raging topic and as many will point out weathering, paint pigment etc played a lot to do with the difereent shades of green. I think the Green was darker post 1941 when the Gray-Green scheme was introduced. This is given as the supposed proper colour? http://www.colorserver.net/showcolor.asp?fs=34079
  5. Hello guys and girls! Just finished what has to be the best model I have every built! Ever so proud of it! Also first time I tried out using Humbrol weathering wash, (First time using a wash at all!) Also first time using Humbrol Clear, and it works a charm! The clever people say that it is basically the same as Johnsons Klear. Anyway, back to the model. It went together ever so nicely, and only took a few days to complete, and that was to my own surprise rather quick compared to what I normally do! But I just could not leave this model! So, this is how it turned out. _DSC0774 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0775 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0776 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0777 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0778 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0779 by Matcham11, on Flickr Robin
