  1. My shelf of doom is getting a bit crowed, I have 1, 2, 3... 9, 10, 11... to many unfinished kits 😅 I've decided I need to take action & clear some of the backlog, so I've banned myself from starting any new builds until I've finished all a few of them. They're all 1/35 armour in various states of completion, ranging from half built to painted but not weathered etc. I'm currently working on a build in the main WIP forum (which would have actually fitted nicely in here now that I think about it!). While I finish off that build here are a few of my self queens that are in need of some love 😛 Panzer E-75 "Kingkobra" Needs stowage & fixing a few broken parts. Panzer Maus II Need to redo the weld seams & a finish adding a bunch of small parts. ShKH-1/150 (Zb 16050-P) I wanted to replace the rubber tracks that came with the kit with new 3D printed ones, but I'll just put the rubber ones on & get it out of the way now. Sherman T1E3 Mineroller (early & late versions) I made these during last years KUTA but still haven't painted them! There are many more but I dont have photos at hand. Hopefully I can get a few of them finished over the coming months.
  2. Well, I've decided to try a WIP of my new M1A2 SEP TUSK (or Abrams Acronyms ). So far I've assembled components for the lower hull, minus the wheels, some components on the upper hull and turret, the reactive armour on the skirts, and the main gun. I then masked off the appropriate areas and gave it a coat of Rust-Oluem Terracotta effect for the anti-slip coating. Came out better than expected, but I think I'll need to lay some primer over it soon since the little grains in the paint seem to flake off fairly easy. Anyway, here's some pics of my work so far. That's all I've got for now
  3. Hi all and great to look back at 2018 and the bits of plastic I stuck together, whether for Group Builds here or elsewhere, or just for fun. All are 1/72 unless noted. As I'm slowly getting into airbrushing, all of these are brush painted, except for any white finishes which are a rattle can with brush finish on top. First finish was a Revell Albatross in January for the Flying Boat GB here. 4. The Weathering Magazine - Special Iron Factory Ammo by Mig Jimenez We have now seen a few weathering magazines from Ammo this publication is longer at 114 pages and is in effect a book not a magazine. As the title would suggest this edition concentrates on painting & weathering techniques for tanks/AFVs. Different products are show , though as the title suggests Ammo products feature. This book deals with Soviet equipment in conflicts since WW2. The book features; 2S3 SPG from Afghanistan. BMP-2 from Donestsk. BTR-70 from Afghanistan. T-64B from Ukraine. T-80B from Chechnya. T-90A from Syria. Conclusion This looks to be a very useful publication, although in magazine format the print quality is that of book. Overall a high quality publication. Recommended. 5. This is the latest model I put together, mostly to try a couple of techniques. This is the first time I do a winter 'camo', first time I used chipping techniques (Mig products) extensively, first time used 'mud' products (Vallejo) and not the first time I went crazy with pigments (Vallejo). A bit heavy-handed on some of the dark-iron chipping. Also, the white paint chipping did not turn out very 'flaky', due to a more 'elastic' behaviour of the top coat. Will try other brands in the future. The build is based on a M. Jimenez's tutorial.
  6. Hey there, It's been a while since a have made a post... well, here I'm with a small beast: a Stug IV from Italeri, 1/35 scale. Is the first tank that I make since I was a little boy, and it is very grateful to do, I mean, I use to make Airplanes and when you have the freedom to make a more "dirty" work it feels good. The kit is really good, it comes with some PE parts an a metal canon barrel, separated track links, and a really good details in general. I had only added an MG34 from Dragon to upgrade him. For about 30€ is a very recomendable kit. And, here is he:
  7. In October and November 1944 Canadian forces fought some of their bloodiest battles of World War 2 as they tried to liberate the entrance to the port of Antwerp. Known as the Battle of the Scheldt this operation involved the 4th Canadian Armoured Division and the 1st Polish Division, as well as British Naval and other units landing on the Islands of Walcheren and South Beveland. Although I usually build 1:72 aircraft, I intend to build several models in 1:72 to commemorate the battle next year (I'm a slow builder). Would anyone know a good source of images of the (armoured) vehicles and tanks that were used by the Canadian forces in this operation? So far my internet searches came up with very few and mostly very grainy images. I also sent a request via the website of IPMS Canada, but to no avail. Many thanks! Peter
  8. Curiosity as much as anything else, but it crossed my mind to wonder if tank tracks were painted or otherwise coated after production to provide a measure of corrosion protection? Obviously any such coating wouldn't survive long in use when the tracks were mounted on the vehicle but at least some of them must have been kept in storage for a while before use. Interested in any info. John
  9. Courtesy of the 1/48 Armor Modelling Group on FB next release from Tamiya will be a Churchill VII. A crew half-figure and two marking options to allow Crocodile or gun tank to be built. Sprue shots from Tamiya Blog It appears that only the visible track links are supplied. This is a pain as, in NW Europe Churchills ran without the centre section of the trackguards fitted. This was to avoid debris between the larger turret and trackguard causing damage. Otherwise it looks OK. I like the moulded in roadwheels which should save much hair being torn out. Open hull hatches would have been good but they are simple enough to cut out and replace I suppose. EDIT: Apparently the post war mods in Tamiya's 35th kit have been removed in this one so it's a WW2 vehicle OOB.
  10. We will shortly have the new 1/48 Churchill VII Crocodile and 1/35 Wespe Italian Front in stock as well as the 1/24 La Ferrari in yellow.
  11. Hello all, It has been a while since I posted here, mainly trying to keep momentum to finish projects. This is my last one, started some 2 years ago (I know, its been slow). This is my second tank in some 30 years. I used Tamiya's 1/48 Firefly, with Eduard's photo-etched detail set and most of the Black Dog stowage. The figures are from Tamiya's infantry set. Not 100% about the historical accuracy, I was mostly focused on applying techniques as best I could. You can probably see this is influenced from Pat Johnston's work. I would probably make some small corrections but that is for the next project. I am glad I completed something!
  12. There are some excellent Tamiya 1/35 scale kits available that are decades old and I was wondering what the oldest ones currently available were. I have built some of the real cheap ones such as the Panther and Panzer 2 and to me, they are excellent value for money. I would also like to see the Land Rover Ambulance reissued anybody else have a Tamiya kit they would like to see again Airfix kits of the same vintage show their age but the Tamiya ones don't seem to So does anyone know the oldest mould currently available in hobby shops (not 2nd hand retailers) and what Tamiya kit would you like to see reissued? 80s Soviet

Hey all, got a question for you. Did Soviet tanks in the 80s period use a particular colour as a primer (much like the Germans did with red oxide) and what was the primary green they used? I have the Mig Ammo ZASHCHITNIY ZELENO, which was mentioned as being the colour for the vehicles in that time, but it seems more...browny than green, so I was just wanting to specificy, particularly since Trumpeter often suggests using 303 Green for Soviet tanks or equipment of that period, which is decidedly more green in colour. Being Russian vehicles I imagine they used a mishmash of greens and camouflage, but I'm particularly curious about the most common known colour for them, as well as any known schemes used in the Afghan theatre, particularly on T-62s and Zil-131 trucks. Cheers. Gaz
  14. So since I seem to have gotten burned by ModelHobbies selling me something that didn't exist (AFClub Anti-Reflection Sticker), and thus didn't arrive (PayPal dispute initiated, another story), I'm once again back to the drawing board of how to replicate the anti-reflection properties of the optics on an M1A2. I figure the odds of getting that proper multi-colour look as you moved around is pretty much out the window, but is there anything anyone can suggest for replicating it somewhat, whilst retaining transparency? Cheers, Gaz
  15. Here's the Hobby Boss VK 4502 (p) with the forward turret. Its an excellent kit but the tracks are hard work as you can see. It has a fully detailed turret which is completely hidden from view so I didn't bother. Paints are Model Air and AK for the red primer. I've made the colour scheme up entirely but am reasonably happy with it. Story goes that one cam out to fight the advancing Russians at Kummersdorf in April 45 but no real evidence exists. As always would welcome your views. Thanks David
  16. Well, after a prolonged build I've finally finished. Built pretty much out of the box but with the Eduard etched set. Decals are Tamiya's own for C Squadron, 5th RTR, 22nd Armoured Brigade, 7th AD. Tank crew are a mixture of the figure that comes with the kit plus others from Tamiya's Bren Carrier. The Infantry figures are from one of the really useful Mini Art sets which I really like. Everything was painted almost exclusively with Vallejo acrylics. More details in my WIP thread. Thanks for looking. Cheers
  17. I've started this topic as a place to post any current works in progress. Tamiya's venerable PzII. This one's nearly done and should be finished soon. Filters, pastels, some extra stowage and crew then I'll call it done. Thanks for looking!
  18. Hi Guys I had a fews days and felt like doing something simple before my next build, so I settled for the Tamiya SAS Jeep. I am getting to like Tamiya more now as the kits seem to be of quite good quality. It was a nice easy build and gave me an excuse to practice my weathering technique (being a newbie). Below is the finished item which I hope may just compare to the other Jeep builds on here. I will be back in with my next builds in the new year as I have a few kits coming from Santa (Revell Pirate ship, King Tiger with interior and more)
  19. This is my Challenger 1 MK 3. It is mainly how it came from the box, with no alterations regarding accuracy except for the addition of PE parts. My knowledge of tanks is very limited and I didn't have the time to study the real thing in detail on the Internet, but I did attempt for the first time to create my own camo netting and tarpaulins instead of paying out a lot of dosh. Using poetic justice I did create some covers for the side accessory pods. Though it may not be real, I thought it looked ok. So, I hope you enjoy viewing the photo's and look forward to any comments, good or bad, as they make us better at what we do. To follow the build in the WIP forum please click here
  20. Armoured Hussars Images of the 1st Polish Armoured Division 1939 - 47 Helion and Company This new book published by Helion and Company and written by Janusz Jarzembowski is a pictorial history of the unit from 1939 to 1947. The books one hundred and forty seven pages are packed full of period photographs, documents and diagrams. Each photograph is well captioned, usually including some background to the photo as well as detailing what they show. These photographs were collected by the authors Father during his time with the Polish Army and were stored in albums, until interest in the almost forgotten division and it’s commanding officer, General Stanislaw Maczek, caused the author to revisit the archive in order to provide a narrative for the division and his Fathers memory. The introduction describes how the Division fought, in its various guises from the very first days of the war against both Germany and Russia all the way to the fall of the Reich, until the unit was finally disbanded in 1947. Many of these brave men decided not to return to their homeland, due to the rise of Communism and set up home in Great Britain, where the Polish Resettlement Corp was established for the final demobilisation and disbanding took place in 1949. The collapse of communism in in Eastern Europe in1989 finally enabled the survivors of the 1st Polish Armoured Division to receive the recognition of their exploits from their homeland, and return home. This is their tribute. Conclusion This is a very special book, and a fitting tribute to the men of the 1st Polish Armoured Division. The photographs are not only interesting historically, but to see the faces of the men who did the fighting is quite poignant. From a modellers view point there is plenty of useful information on the vehicles used, the clothing and the environment that could be put to good use in a diorama. There’s even something for the aircraft modellers, as there are quite a few photographs from abandoned airfields, showing the wrecked aircraft and airfield equipment. Review sample courtesy of
  21. Hi All This is my fourth build since returning to kits after many years and I'm really enjoying it, very relaxing and therapeutic! Well this one is the Hobby Boss M4 High speed Tractor which I just fancied the look of to be honest. It was a great kit, excellent value with the included PE, chains, paint masks, colour chart etc. great value. This is my first play with PE, god it's fiddly isn't it! I still have a lot to learn with regards to weathering especially rust effects which I tried, binned and gave up un but practice makes perfect? Overall I'm reasonably happy for a fourth attempt. It was painted with a Tamiya rattle can and brushed Vallejo acrylics but have just invested in my first ever airbrush for future builds! Mainly OOB except for some spares box weapons and accessories. I scratch built the tarpaulins and weapon slings using thin lead sheet and bought a set of Verlinden 1/35 WW2 US maps and documents. Anyway I hope it's ok and thanks for looking!
  22. For those who followed this build here now comes the final pictures before the Leopard is put onto the Faun Transporter. This is my first attempt at weathering and I think I have a lot to learn, but I think I may have the basics ready for my next build. Hope you enjoy. More pictures HERE
  23. This will be my first armour build after only doing aircraft before, so I'll hopefully learn a lot along the way. Thanks for looking, Jason
  24. We are very happy to announce that we will be stocking Ultracast products at Sovereign Hobbies. The first order is due to land in a couple of weeks.
  25. Hi everyone This here is another project I've revived whilst still working on my M1A2 TUSK, an M60A1 I've had for a number of years but never completed. Compared to some of those abandoned kits, this one was in fairly good nick, painted up and sporting no damage. I even had the parts available to finish the build. I resprayed its camo and touched up it, then painted up the figures and added the decals. Clear-coated, applied some Mig wash and then sealed it with matt varnish (which has given it a slight fading, like the appearance of a very fine dust, particularly on the crew). I'm still considering adding some pigments to it, possibly to replicate the aftermath of a beach landing (I do have some beach sand pigments). I have the old Tamiya US soldiers kit as well, which I've also painted up for a late 80s scenario, to go along with it. I also have a plan to pick up some more stowage to add to it, since the stowage I have I spent painting in ACU for my Abrams. Anyway, enough waffling. Bring on the pics Gaz
