  3. Here are a couple Aoshima Honda Ape 50s I made last year. They were lovely kits to make that required no glue. I utilised some old decals on the Yoshimura version. Humbrol enamel applied with hairy sticks on both. Thanks for looking all feedback appreciated, regards Siffo.
  4. Drooled over the real ones in Sportequipe motorcycles Runcorn as a boy early in the early 70's. This is as near as I've got to owning one so far! All hand painted with hairy sticks and Humbrol tinlets. Had a problem with the tank decal, cut it as shown on instructions but couldn't get it to sit right no matter what. Thanks for looking, regards Siffo.
  5. I have made a start on this due to the weather not allowing any painting to be done at the moment The box Hers a quick mock up of the major body parts And here's my plan with it, this car will be made into the FIA GT car from 1997 but it won't be a box stock car, I have the Aoshima detail set to add a bit more realism but for me it's not enough so I have decided to cut the body up a touch and add some bits from under the skin (I will be using sascha müllers build as inspiration) honestly at this point in the build I haven't made me mind up how far I am going to go with it but for now here's where I'm at Now you see it Now you don't I have made up a box section that fits into the gap which will hold a range of components Also for those that don't know aoshima did an amazing job on this car with full engine detail unlike the fujimi version Thanks for looking Shaun
  6. Aoshima is to release a new 1/72nd Kawasaki Ki-100II Type 5 kit - ref.008706 N°9 Source: http://www.aoshima-bk.co.jp/english/News/2014-7.jpg V.P.
  7. Other than group builds I haven't done any WIPs, mainly because sometimes I work very, very slowly, especially when work in the real world (booo) gets in the way. But I haven't seen much online about this kit so I thought it may interest a few people to see what it's like. I picked it up last year on a trip to Japan, together with the Ki-100 II and a Finemolds Ki-61, all very reasonably priced. Japanese hobby stores are a sight to behold and given time/money/room in my luggage I could have gone mental! I picked up a few little tools and paints and some Finemolds seatbelts, which I'll use on this, and that was about it. Here's the contents, if I miss anything let me know and I'll get some better shots. Everything looks very nice, no idea about accuracy or if it all fits but that will become apparent quite soon. Cheers Segan Here are the Finemold seatbelts I'll be using And here's the rather good new Kagero book on the type that just arrived.
  8. Hi Everyone, I have seen this kit on several forums and I really want one. Especially after seeing this picture Does anyone know where I can get one ? Especially if it is in stock. I really want one for the SciFi GB which starts in a few weeks. Rick
  9. Good Afternoon All, Here we have my mates (Mikes) first car model kit. He's seen me building my 1/144 planes and he has gotten interested in our dark hobby anyhow, he asked me where I get my stuff from (I said HLJ) so off he popped to see what he would like. I got him the PS-13 (he paid me for it tho). He has been building it over the last couple of months on-off while at work with my help in certain places. The roll cage (if you can see it) is scratch built by him, he has smoked the rear windows. He has tried to make it into a drift car and given it a satin look. Please let him know what you think, he knows it isn't the best model out there but he is very happy. Well that's the lot, I think his next project is a Skyline R34 C-West kit. Kind Regards, Dazz
  10. A fantastic kit of a uncompromisingly old school super car: What a beautifully engineered kit, especially around the "working" features. Literally the only place I used filler in the whole build was a small smear to fill the join line UNDERNEATH the black wing mirrors -- a real "because God can see" moment... There's a bit of extra wiring on the engine (the only bits you can see are the four wires from the cylinder heads disapperaing under the airbox, and then only if you look. The OOB engine is pretty good. Interior paint is mostly Vallejo and Citadel, plus Tamiya Rubber Black and NATO black. Exterior is Zero Paints Giallo Orion and Tamiya Rubber Black from a rattle can. The wing has a masked "carbon" texture, not that you'd notice in these pictures! The main thing I learned from this is that if you are spraying a two-layer colour (yellow base overlaid with gold "pearl"), then you need to keep the pieces physically as close together as you can while you spray, to make sure they come out an even colour. If you look carefully, the doors and airscoops are a very slightly darker yellow than the main body. I've distracted as much as possible from it with big black decals etc so it's not too noticeable, but it's a lesson I've hauled on board. bestest, M.
  11. In December 2014, Aoshima (http://www.aoshima-bk.co.jp/) is to release 1/72nd Kawanishi NIK3-J & NIK3-Ja Shidenkai-I/-II kits - ref.011706 & 011713 Sources: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/blog/1409272 https://www.facebook.com/Aoshima.Bunka.Kyozai.English/photos/pb.383251378352101.-2207520000.1411845387./882532858423948/?type=3&theater V.P.

  13. Two very different cars, but both a tribute to the best of Italian sports car know-how... The GTA in primer. I'm trying out a technique suggested by "Cruz", on another forum, in which you wash the shut lines with black while the car is in primer, before painting. He suggests rescribing the lines first, but I thought that the GTA had crisp and deep enough lines out of the box to test the technique without needing to scribe them. The Murcielago in primer. I wanted to get as many parts of the body together as possible to avoid having to match the colours, and glue clear-coated pieces together. In practice, this means the extreme nose, skirts and lower edges of the extreme rear can be attached. Doors and one intake (which has a segment of body colour inside) have to remain separate... The Murcielago will be Giallo Orion -- a pearl yellow colour -- with lots of black/grey carbon trim. This is, once again, the ever reliable Zero Paints system of ground coat, base coat and clear coat. Whereas the Giulia Sprint GTA is in a colour scheme inspired by some of the racers I've seen at Donington over the years. More Zero Paints, this time Alfa Rosso Corse and Lamborghini Powder Blue (a Miura colour which eventually lost out to the lime green when I built mine, but I may still do another in this colour, because it looks so cool...) And now with the clear coat on. You can see how much it changes the apparent colour of the base coat, especially on the Lambo. I think the change is even more intense with the pearl finish because it reduces the scattering of light by the pearl layer, and lets you "see through" to the base coat more directly. I also tried using clear over a decal for the first time, (the Alfa "snake" on the bonnet) which has worked very well. There are the odd spot imperfections here and there, but once again the Zero 2K clear has done its job and settled into a smooth, glossy finish all over. These will now go away into plastic boxes for a week or so to fully cure before polishing out those spots. It's good to be back at the bench! bestest, M.
  14. Hi all, Been a while since posting here and still trying to finish a previous build. And truth be told, I've actually finished this build, but I learned a few things along the way that I thought I would share. So my mother in-law now owns her dream car - a red Copen. It's a hard top convertible - very nice. Fun to drive too - not much power but it's got a 700cc(ish) turbo engine. The turbo sounds great and it's like a go-kart in the streets. Not the best for long haul, freeway cruising as it's very small - you can see my truck in the reflection below. Deceptive, but the truck is about twice the size in every dimension. In any case, fun to drive and she loves it. I thought it might be fun to build a model of one for her (she's cool like that) and I found an Aoshima version (they actually do quite a few different versions) and a KA photoetch set to go along with it. First time using photoetch. So I set off attempting to get this done in a week before her birthday. HA! Laugh! Paint work on the body turned out to be painful and the weather while hot, was humid so drying time was long. Anyway, it started off pretty well. All scrubbed up and dry. Not many parts and looked pretty straight forward to build. Seats needed filling in: Got the interior done without too much fuss - photoetch is tiny and needed careful hands for some parts. Pedals are much better than the kit parts. Interior done (better shots at the end): Onto the body. Started well with Tamiya liquid grey primer after sanding down: Fit wasn't too bad - actually, for me being a newbie at all this, it was pretty good IMO. Then came the red (Tamiya Red - turns out it was actually a pretty good match). First couple of coats went on ok, but then I got too much texture in the final coats: Was pretty bummed actually - deadline approaching and I knew this wasn't going to work... So I gave up trying to get it done and ruining it and focussed on trying to get it right. So I sanded it back down and went heavy on the final coat. The concept of a wet coat had me a little worried about going to far and getting runs in the paint, but it seemed to work out ok. Got the hang of the timing just before it looked like it was going to run. This is how it ended up: Also realised there were some nasty scratches in the windshield. Tried a number of different polishes - including toothpaste - and ended up using Meguiar's Metal Polish which worked great! I flexed the windshield a bit too much though and crazed the plastic. Not much I could do about that, but it doesn't stand out too much. Scratches shown here and final look is later on: It really did work wonders on it - I was pretty pleased that I found something that I already had that would work. I debated clear coating it all but wasn't convinced I'd be able to keep the shine, so I thought I would try to wax the body work and so I tried Meguiar's again - this time the Ultimate Liquid Wax. Worked great and I didn't end up clear coating it: So with that, I finished up the lights and bits and pieces and got it to where I was pretty happy with it. Certainly some things are not quite right (side indicators probably being the the most obvious), but at the end of the day, it was like the car - fun to build (drive) if a little challenged in some areas (small and not much power) but with lots and lots of character! And she loved it!! I'll post some more images in the RFI section. Comments welcome!
