  1. AIMS 1/32 Spitfire PR 1G conversion for Revell MK II kit - with Barracuda & Eduard details - finished! Hi folks yes it is finished and what a journey - my first Spitfire in 20 plus years. I must acknowledge my debt to a Mr Thierry Laurant whose library and vast knowledge of the subject matter made the project possible - as did the SAM Datafile book on the Merlin Powered Spitfire's by Robert Humphreys . I will not bore you with a list of my woes and the parts of the model I wish i had spent more time on - I am just glad to have finished it. Upon getting the camera out I was delighted to remember one of my favorite albums from my teenage years 'A taste of Pink' by a British band called 'The Prisoners.' If you like 60's bands like the Small Faces give them a try - anyway i thought the album was perfect for the Spitfire model haha. One more thing you will note that in only one photo I have the Main gear down indicators on the model - I just forgot about them until after seeing the photos that I took! O well there are on it now. The last photo is not really a ready for inspection photo but none of my detail photos really show off the lower surface work. Ask any questions you like but for now here is a list of the products involved AIMS 1/32 Spitfire PV IV/IG conversion AIMS MK II upper cowl AIMS De Havilland spinner and props AIMS Monotone Spitfires decal sheet Barracuda Studios Cockpit interior Barracuda Studios Main wheels Barracuda Studios Deeper radiator Barracuda Studios Early ailerons Eduard MK II canopy mask set Eduard Sutton Harness seat belts Eduard Mk II Exterior Details Thanks John
  2. AIMS 1/32 Spitfire PR 1G Although in pain I want to try and do a little modelling each day if I can. Inspired by Andrew Eaton's PR IV and with fond memories of my 1/72 PR 1G from 25 years ago I have set out to make my AIMS 1/32 conversion. I have a host of goodies from Barracuda Studios and other items are on their way to me from Hannants. I have also ordered some 0.2mm solder balls to see if I can locate them along the datum line longeron and a few other noticeable places. I have burred off and filled the absolutely terrible engine cowl clearance blisters and will make my own, and I have started reshaping the wheel blister as well as filling in all the sink holes. So here we go - something British for our Queen's Jubilee! Long live the Queen!
  3. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Dragon Heinkel He-219 A2 in markings of NJG 3 in 1945. Painted with Mr.Hobby acrylics, photos by Wolfgang Rabel. The Dragon model was released in the early 1990s, but is still the best injection-moulded kit in 72 scale. It's age shows with plenty of ill-fitting parts, such as the canopy, wing-to-fuselage joint and panel lines which line up on the belly, but not on the spine. I added Eduard photo-etch for the interior and resin wheels from True Details. The kit's decals were unusable and had to be replaced with AIMS "Heinkel He-219 A" (72DO23). Upper surface camo was free-handed using my Harder & Steenbeck Evolution with 0.15mm needle. The radar antennas are included as photo-etch parts, their attachment requires a steady hand and lots of patience. There's mounting holes for the antenna arms on the nose, which theoretically set the correct angle. In practice this did not work, as I had filled the entire nose with lead shots to prevent a tail-sitter, and the plugs wouldn't go into position because of the inside ballast. All antennas had to be manually adjusted. The spinner spirals are decals, borrowed from an Eduard (Fw-190) kit: The Balkenkreuze on the lower surface were sprayed using a self-cut mask. This way I tried to avoid the dreaded "silvering" of carrier film that sometimes occurs on dark surfaces. Thank you for your interest in this topic! Best greetings from Vienna, Roman
  4. This is 1/32 Dragon Bf 110F-2 with the markings of St.G 77 (S2-DA with Totenhand emblem) Kolinowka Poland in 1943. I have used AIMS Bf 110F conversion set. Cockpit modified with Eduard instrument panel and seat belts. (Note the armor plate behind the pilot seat) Exhaust are from Quickboost Paints: Gunze Sangyo acrylics Decals are from AIMS Happy modelling

  6. Hi everyone here is my 1/32 Mistel 3 W.Nr. 460065, Bernburg, Germany, April 1945. Paints were Mr Paint range - with their RLM 76 diluted with 50% white to achieve a late war cobalt reduced RLM 76. Conversion / decals - my AIMS 1/32 Mistel 3 conversion set Other AIMS products - Ju 88 A-1 Essential PE, Tail wheel Bay PE, Main Gear bay test shot PE, Ju 88 External Manufacturing Plates decals Non AIMS products - HGW Ju 88 seat belts Problems during build - Bad back, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, Covid 19 and pneumonia - Oh sorry you mean with the build..... things needing filler only and if using what Mr Paint call an undocumented 'RLM 76 Grunblau' again I would give it a monotone RLM 02 undercoat to add strength / depth to this very weak colour regardless of what it truly is called or was in real life. During the build I purchased the Flugzug for the Mistel 2 from Luftachieve and saw the cable for the explosive charge on the back support rod was in a pale colour. When I did my Mistel 2 I had just said ok it must be yellow but this time I asked D.E Brown and he supplied me with the colour chart for the different voltages the Luftwaffe used. All I needed then was to see in the Flugzug that the fuse at the base and top of the rod was 24 volts and I had my answer - 'Violet'. If you have any questions I will do what I can to help. thanks again and best wishes, John
  7. Hi everyone, just finished my ICM Gloster Gladiator / AIMS J8 conversion, hope you like it. I am obviously not a bi-plane modeler as I went for the option of directly placing on top of the main wires a length of 0.5 rod, believing life was too short to try and drill into it 0.15 by 0.3mm back to back slots and then again in the middle and at the end - twice over - shoot me! Kit was built using the following.... AIMS Mk 1 engine set, upper ailerons, decals, Cockpit PE, bracing wires and external details PE, landing flaps PE, J8 conversion set, Gas Patch RAF turnbuckles x4 and a lot of scratch building. Model was finished using Xtracolour WWII Olive Drab and RAF Barley Grey and as indicated my AIMS decals. I will take some nicer photos once I have it on base, Thanks for looking -John
  8. One of the projects I started in lock-down 3.0 is ICM's 1/32 Sea Gladiator. I've been meaning to start a build log, so here is progress so far. I have an asthmatic in the house, and use enamel paint, so spraying indoors is out of the question. I'll need to wait for better weather before any paint goes on. I decided that I wanted to use this opportunity to dry-fit assemble as much of the model as possible, in preparation for disassembly and a primer coat when the weather warms up. I'm also using the Eduard photo-etch sets, AIMS etch set and Aerocraft Models brass struts and landing gear. Although overall this looks to be a really outstanding kit, there are a few areas of the depiction of the cockpit that I do not like: 1. The cockpit behind the seat has been blanked off. The real aircraft had an open structure behind the seat bulkhead. 2. Opening up the area behind the seat bulkhead means that the cockpit framing needs extending aft, and this area needs detailing as it is very visible. 3. The seat seems crude. I started with the seat. This is the AIMS photo-etch seat with brass details and coil springs made from wire. I soldered this mainly, though the brass rods and coil springs are glued. I still need to add the brake lever: I prefer the AIMS seat to the Eduard one, though the latter isn't bad. Here's the ICM seat for comparison: I built the extension to the cockpit from plastic tube and strip. The compressed air bottles are from the spares box with lead leads: The support for the harness strap wires is from Eduard and fits like a glove. Various knobs and levers are a combination of AIMS and Eduard. And with the seat assembly resting roughly in place: That's all for now....
  9. My dad wanted to build this now for a long time, finally he got to it. Using the old Dragon kit. Bought it second-hand some years ago. Decals aren´t usable anymore, so gonna use AIMS ones. 10. #13/2020 And another one finished. Started with Dragon´s "E" kit but then stole the engine from one of their Ju88 kits and built an "A". Eduard seatbelts added, EZ Line for the antenna wires and brake lines, AIMS decals for the main markings, Gunze RLM70/71 for the replacement wing and old selfmixed RLM76 with Tamiya XF-23 Gunze H314 and H2 and a not known anymore light grey. Build thread here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235068862-baby-blitz148-junkers-ju188a-2-rächer-iikg6/page/2/ Model shows an aircraft of II./KG6 which took part in Operation Steinbock, also called Baby Blitz by the Brits, and flew nocturnal raids over England. 11. Hi everyone here is an update for you all.... Decals 32D018 and 32D019 in the post to me....see pics Photo etch 32PE009 completed and off to printers having received my kits and amended measurements from up-scaled 1/48 Roden bracing wires design 32P018 Gloster Gladiator engine/cowl - working on 3D masters now that I have the kit Pat Pattle figure being sculpted by Elan 13 in January (not listed in Hannants Future products as not given a Cat No. yet just in case it all goes wrong haha Upper Aileron correction - in the works (ICM have given upper ailerons same design as lower aileron - upper aileron centre hinge is small like inner hinge - not large like lower centre hinge - makes a massive difference as as things stand you are unable to locate in the correct position the aileron bracing wires just off-set from strut. PE landing flaps - in the works Thanks everyone and a very Happy Christmas to you all. (I am taking the Christmas family service again this year here in Hungary - my Hungarian can be rather comical so please pray people will understand me haha)
  12. Hi everyone this is a future product for the ICM Gladiator. I will post when it is available, thanks for looking
  13. Hello. This will be the first Plane I'm gonna build on Britmodeller.com Better do it right the first time, so I opened the Revell 1/32 Messerschmitt Bf109-G6. A lot of AM was gathered already to add to the build. AM from Eduard is the Big Sin Set.I started building the engine and it's coming along very nice. I'm an engine freak, so all the hatches and things that show the engine will be opened. Cockpit will be a mix of the Eduard set and I leave from the Revell kit. From the AIMS set I have the opportunities to open what I like all over the fuselage, we will see. Picked out "Yellow 6", because it has a nice winter camo. Decals come from EagleCals and look very nice. All other stuff that comes to add the build will be called out later. A lot of the AM will not be used for this one, I'm sure...There will be another after this. Will post some photos when there is progress. Kind regards, Robert Jan
  14. Hi everyone, sending this - my third 1/32 Gloster Gladiator decal sheet to the printers in next few days - enjoy.
  15. Hi Folks, finally got the courage to upscale my old 1/72 Felixstowe decals - so they are off just now to the printers, hope they come in useful for some people here, thanks for looking.... 32D020 - Felixstowe F.2A N4283 32D021 - Felixstowe F.2A N4512
  16. Hi everyone, Sopwith Camel bracing wires for Wingnut Wings kit off to the printers for test shot. Thanks for looking
  17. Hi folks, this might be in the wrong place as I could not see a vendors page, anyway in case you did not know from LSP or my FB page I have some 1/32 Gloster Gladiator decals being printed at the moment - here is the War time sheet, thanks for looking
  18. My entry for this GB will be Dragons Ju 88C-6 in 1:48 scale which came in a large Revell box. A while ago i have purchased the very nice AIMS decal set 4804 with six marking options for three C-6 dayfighters and Fitting for this group build three nightfighters. Also helpful for this project are two Eduard sets. One photo etched set intended for the A-4 bomber but most will fit in a C-6 cockpit as well. The second one is a masking sheet designed for the early C-6 cabin with two bulged B Mounts and the early windscreen. fits the black NJG 2 aircraft. Boxart. The two marking options are interesting as well. 2./NJG 2 with RLM 79 sandy Brown on the two tone standart scheme of RLM 70/71 and FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC radar 4./NJG 2 with a non standart scheme and the same radar. The AIMS set. D5+AV was the mount of Staffelkapitän Oblt. Günther Koberich with the FuG 202 Lichtenstein BC Radar and a slight mottling with RLM 75 over 76 and low vis markings. R4+BH of 1./NJG 2 in North Afrika. Black with a White fuselage band 4R+AS flown ( and wrecked ) by the Staffelkapitän of 8./NJG 2 Hptm. Friedrich Tober with a more intense mottling, FuG 220 Radar and two upward firing 20mm guns known as "Schräge Musik" Also on the decal sheet is a Ju 88G-1 3C+MP of 6./NJG 4 with a scheme for die hard airbrush guys. Enough for a start. Cheers Bernd
  19. After a bunch of small WW2 fighters, my dad decided it´s time now for something bigger. Using the good old Dragon Ju88 kit with AIMS decals, doing one of the colourful machines of 14./KG40. 20. For my first WIP here, I'm doing the ICM Ju-88A-4 with a lot of aftermarket corrections. I will be doing a Finnish aircraft, JK-252. This was the only aircraft I could find clear evidence of without the forward-firing MGFF cannon in the gondola (which the kit lacks). Other Finnish-specific alterations will be the removal of the forward machine-gun and the dive brakes. First up is the surgery for the AIMS cockpit correction. After some pilot holes and work with the razor saw, I had the front portion of the underside fuselage off relatively cleanly. Test fit seems OK I also cut off the front of the removed section for re-use To compensate for the raised cockpit floor, it is necessary to shorten the seat supports Here is the initial layout planning. The AIMS correction fits well into the nose of the aircraft, but it would have been nice if the kit came with a bit more guidance on how the other components were supposed to fit inside the cockpit. There's not quite enough room in front of the seat for the control column, and the rudder pedal placement is very vague as well. On the underside, I used CA glue + talc to fill the seam between the palstic and resin sections, as well as some unnecessary panel lines, and sanded it smooth More layout planning, along with some Eduard photoetch Here is where we stand after adding the Eduard pre-painted interior photoetch, and installing most of the cockpit components. A few of the control levers flew off the tweezers into the great void of despair, but I got most of them on. The fuselage of my kit was warped, and formed a peak at the seam rather than a flat join; clamping was necessary to get the fuselage in the right profile. I also made a spacer out of some plastic rod to help the fuselage more accurately join with the bottom wing part that the cockpit is attached to. Wings attached. There are some medium gaps and clean-up to take care of, but nothing impossible.
  21. Hi guys, I will build a Mistel I in 1/32 scale. I will use a Revell/Hasegawa Messerschmitt Bf-109 G2 as the leading airplane. For the flying bomb I will use the Revell Junkers Ju-88 A4 kit with the Aims Mistel I conversion set. I think I have some extra's for the Bf-109. I will place some foto's later. Cheers,
  22. AIMS (http://www.aimsmodels.co.uk/index.html) is to release a 1/32nd Junkers Ju-388 L-1 conversion set for the Revell's Junkers Ju-88 kit. Source: http://www.aimsmodels.co.uk/Coming-soon/coming-soon.html V.P.
