Zvezda's new Airbus A320 finished in the retro colours of THY - Turkish Airlines (Thanks to 26 decals) I also used Skyline's stencils and etched metal set - pretty comprehensive. No apologies for the number of pics - it was sunny today and I got carried away ! Followed by four from the top : I'm afraid I haven't any family / comparison shots, so I'll have to resort to a couple of full frontals. (Sorry team.....) I hope MikeW (aka "cheatline central") is proud of himself for talking me out of using my home-made decals for this one. You've just delayed the inevitable mate. Pretty pleased with the outcome - hope you like it. mike

My first photographed build! I don't think a kit review has been done of this one, so once I've finished assembly I'll post one. This is my progress over the last three hours. I made the awful mistake of getting too engrossed and forgetting to take progress photos, something I'll avoid doing tomorrow. Being a Russian kit, the instructions were in Russian, but were helpfully laid out with confusing diagrams. A side shot of the main body of the helicopter, assembled separately from the cockpit. Note the quite sharp recessed panel lines. A top shot, giving a nice angle on the rotor blades, and some more of the detailing. This image also gives away the true nature of my black background. There is, unfortunately, one problem with this kit. A problem which I somehow missed during test fitting. A rather large void is present either side of the rotor support panel, a void for which filling panels do not seem to be provided with the kit. I'm currently debating whether it's worth cutting then re-gluing the rotor shaft to allow me to fill the hole. Hopefully I should have the build phase done within two days, giving me time to get basecoats on before Christmas day!

I've just finished this; the Zvezda Ju88A, modified to a late A-1 with the shorter-span wing: I've been waiting for a very long time for one of the kit manufacturers to produce the Battle of Britain A-1 version of the Ju88 with no joy so far, so I made an attempt at converting an existing kit. I've had the Zvezda Ju88A-5 kit in my stash for some time (two of them if I am to be absolutely honest about it) and decided to use this as the basis for an A-1 as it already includes much of what is required; the non-offset hinged rudder, the engine undersides without the intercooler bulges, narrow-blade propellers and the two-gun non-bulged rear canopy which was introduced with the A-5 although at least some A-1s were modified with it. I cut the wings down using the plans supplied with the Kagero Topdrawings No.16 Ju88 Bomber Variant book, this was actually quite - surprisingly - easy to do. I used the Eduard mask set designed for the Zvezda Ju88A-4 which meant I still had to do the rear canopy masking but was worth every penny just to get me out of having to do the nose glazing. The decals were from the Techmod Ju88A-1 set 72142 which provides what appears to be a complete set of stencilling too, needless to say I only used a part of that. The aerial wire was made from EZ Line fine black. I used the Precision Paints Luftwaffe colours 70/71 Black Green over Dark Green over 65 Light Blue and they applied very nicely as always. I finished off with Xtracolor Satin Varnish and did some exhaust staining with Xtracolor Matt Varnish stained with some dark grey and brown. The aircraft represented is from the Stab/II KG.30 based in the Netherlands during the Battle of Britain; I was under the impression that this A-1 was retro-fitted with the A-5-style rear canopy but I cannot find what reference led me to this idea and all the evidence indicates the early one-gun unbulged rear canopy so I am probably mistaken... however since it is impossible to prove a negative I think no-one will be able to prove that this aircraft did not have the modified canopy Incidentally, apart from having most of the features necessary to convert the kit to an A-1, the Zvezda kit also includes the finest crew figures I have ever seen: They were so nice I had to use them with the exception of the ventral gunner who somehow prevented the gondola from fitting properly so was discharged to the spares box. Thanks for your attention, Cheers, Stew

Any news on the A320, IL-62 and IL-76 release dates? I've seen some CAD images, but no plastic yet? Thanks, Andrew

I modified the front and added tow hooks, lifting eyes, headlights, tail light, horn and a plate on the left rear fender. Markings are very wrong for an early Dingo but there are none supplied with the kit and I had to raid the spares box. I must be crazy! Pre-primer, you can see some of the added detail more clearly.

Tupolev Tu-134. Aeroflot. 1:144 Zvezda. The Tupolev 134 is said to the Russian response to the Sud Aviation Caravelle, and has an obvious similarity of layout. Unlike the Caravelle though, it has a very wide track undercarriage suited to rough field operation, and a glazed nose typical of Russian aircraft of this era. I understand that it was used to aid in navigation over the vast areas of the Soviet union where modern electronic navigation aids were not yet available. It was a reliable and efficient aircraft, in service from the mid 1960's until the present day, although no longer seen in European skies due to noise regulations. It is an attractive aircraft, tough, rugged, and yet delicate all at once. The Zvezda kit is beautiful, with fine and detailed mouldings that fit together like a dream. It is one of the best kits of any type that I have built, a real pleasure to work on. The only slight area for improvement is the decals. Mine had smudged main wing reg letters, but was no problem as I have a few of these kits stashed, so nicked the decals out of another kit, although these had a slightly yellow tinge on the carrier film. Having said that, they are good in every other respect and fit beautifully, just like the rest of the kit. The cabin windows are all 'cut out' with silver surrounds and line up perfectly over the glazing. For the next ones to emerge from my stash, I have aftermarket decals for Interflug, CSA Czech, and LOT Poland to put on. And the 'with something else' final shot. To give an idea of its small size, thais is an Airfix 727-100 alongside. The narrow, skinny Tu-134 makes the 727 look fat. Thanks for looking, John

I had so much fun doing the North Star and DC-9 for a Then And Now group build that I decided to do another pair. This time it's Revell's Lockheed Constellation in TCA colours paired off with Zvezda's Boeing 787 in my best approximation of the Air Canada colours it will wear when it enters service later on this year. The 787's fuselage fit is pretty good Only a skim of filler is needed on the bottom I blocked off the APU exhaust hole with a piece of styrene tube and filed it to shape The wings also fit well except where I stuffed up the assembly. But filler and sanding will save that A test fit reveals the size of the beast Turning to the engines, a coating of Humbrol Polished Aluminium on the fan bits While the hot section gets Polished Steel That lot can sit aside and dry while the primer dries on the Constellation

Ok so on a whim I bought yesterday this kit from my local hobby shop and have decided it will be my next project. The thing is I haven't made an airliner for 30 years and in my mind are the horror experiences of making them as a kid! So I need some advice if I may: 1. Livery - this kit comes with the Boeing livery which is nice but I wondered what were some other good options? 2 Build - what is the wisdom re cabin windows these days? Put the supplied clear parts in or leave them out? How to paint the kit and not make a hash of the windows bit essentially! 3. Paint - gloss was always my Achilles heal so was thinking of Halfords appliance white? Any help would be appreciated Thanks Chris

Hi folks, I seem to be getting a bit more into the swing of things as we head into winter down-under. I bought this kit as soon as it appeared in my local model shop having lusted after it from afar. I think the cover of this year's Zvezda catalogue was a very effective sales tool! So far I've built and primed pretty much the whole model as sub-assemblies. There's a lot of it, and it's not just one colour so it's probably better this way around. Some of the sub-assemblies are a bit delicate though, so I hope it gets more solid as the bits go together. Quite a lot of work to get this far - there's a lot of kit to start with, lots and lots of sink marks, and lots of stuff to fill. The main problems are boxes with butt-jointed edges rather than bevels, and some complex shapes built by layering multiple parts where it looks like a part stuck on at 90' would be a lot simpler. I also had to try and get a 2D warp out of the main chassis rails at the very start, I'm not sure if that was 100% successful but it's better than it was. Still, I like it quite a bit. Lots of nice detail, the fit is very good with positive location for nearly everything, and it mostly hides the artifacts of construction inside where you can't see them. It would be very hard work to do a good job on the version with the launcher vertical though! Next jobs are making cab glazing (the kit parts are not great, especially the side windows) and fixing those last few seams (launcher tube, rear cabinets) before paint. I did attempt to deal with all the seams already, but these are showing through the primer. Cheers, Will

Build 16 Having already built one of these, (in fictional night fighter colours) I've decided to build another as Stanford Tuck's V6555. The fuselage markings and underwing roundels are from Sweet's Battle of Britain Hurricane set, the upper roundels are by Mark 1 Decals (I have a few sets from them) and the rest are from the spares box. This will be a quick build and I'll be doing updates as I go... Price: £2.99 from Antics.

Build 12 Another of the little 1/100 armour kits from Zvezda that I hope will prove that although it's small, doesn't mean it can't bee a great model Price: £2.99 from Antics
