Hello Everybody well its time to post this year’s yearbook photo’s. I was able to finish 19 total this year, and have 7 more in the almost finished pile. Starting in January i was able to build my 1st target since I've come back to modeling. I built a 1/48 Tamiya generic M-10 Achilles of the British army in Italy. With a name like this it gives new meaning to the term “Chelsea Tractor” (Thank you Jeremy Clarkson). Next up was my KUTA build an ancient 1/48 Lindberg Beech Stagger-wing that i converted into a bush plane w/ski’s. I dedicated it to my Brother Mike, he passed away in 2010. Next up was my entry into the Forums 10th anniversary build. I opted for the 1/72 Academy OV-10 Bronco. In this case the colors are from an U.S.Navy example based at China Lake with VX-5 in late 1986-87. Not exactly sure why the desert colors on a U.S.N. Bronco ? My working theory is a camouflage test. Possibly anticipating getting involved in the Iran/Iraq war. I then finished up a few builds that had been started in 2017. The 1st of those was this Grumman Hellcat. I chose to do it in the markings of a Hellcat from VF-33 on Espirtu Santo in late 1943. I found the marking scheme while looking at an Eduard Hellcat, and yes i have a photo as well. Followed by a 1/48 Tamiya Mk.VI Mosquito, from the Banff Strike Wing. If memory serves me 143 Squadron. I was able to get into some more modern stuff as well. I did this VMA-311 Tomcats Harrier. And this F/A-18C as a CAG Bird from VFA-86 Sidewinders late 1990’s. Then probably some of my Favorite builds of the year. First up is “Geronimo”. A P-40N from the 15th Fighter Group, 45th Fighter Squadron. Its a gilbert Island based unit and was a sister to the Makin island P-39’s. My take on Revellograms Ju-87D/G Stuka, was built for the Mediterranean G.build. I opted for a Ju-87 of Nachtschlactgruppen 9 in Italy early 1944. I followed this up with a build i started 15 years ago. I finished my RAAF Black cat from #20 Squadron. Its not 100% glued as it has to be able to be stored in a broken down condition. These were followed by a 1/72 quickbuild Hobbyboss Me-262 for that Single type build. I built V056 which was a constantly modified prototype used for testing different weapons. In my case the prototype of the Single seat night fighter. I opted to do Lothar Von Richetofen’s Yellow Fokker for “The final hour build.” Next up was one of two builds for the 1960’s NATO/Warpac grp. Build. I chose an early Mig-21 from the Polish Air Force, I used a Bilek 1/72 kit. The 2nd build was one of my Unicorn models since ive come back to building. I used the Revellogram F-102 Deuce. I chose the markings of the 431st FIS. Zaragoza Spain 1961. Next was the P-47D for the STGB. I opted to do “4-F” from the 356th Fg. This was followed by the Dedicated type build where everyone built the same 1/72 Airfix P-51D. I opted for “Run, Rabbit, Run” from the 20th Fg. Both the P-47 & P-51 are also part of a side project I’m building concerning 8th A.F Fighter Command. The last couple of Builds are the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIb in VVS markings. This was built for the “Brits abroad” build. Last up is the 1/72 Hobbyboss quickbuild P-39N that was built for the p-39 stgb. This was built to Represent an Airacobra Mk.I of 601 Squadron. I did forget to add this model. I completed a Tamiya 1/72 Fw-190D a month or so ago. So officially thats it folks, thats all of my 2018 builds. I still have 2 spitfires, hurricane Mk.I, Tempest Mk.VI, & a B-18 Bolo. Im currently working on all of these but dont think they will make the 31/12/18 deadline. If anyone would like to see the WIP’s please ask i will add the appropriate link. This post is a bit long as it is, and adding 18 links would just make it longer. As is my usual finish, questions, comments, or jokes ? Dennis

Hi folks, It's 2018 here in New Zealand, so this is coming in at the metaphorical eleventh hour, but here are my finished things from 2017. Not a terrible year but a bit short on variety in places (I didn't manage any aircraft or armour for the first time in ages!) I started with this Cosmo Zero, the Cosmo Falcon is still in a mix of primer and basecoats which is a little embarrassing... Bandai 1/72 kit from Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Also Bandai is this tiny box-scale (1/8000?) kit of the Elysion carrier from the most recent Macross series: I started building and painting some of the nifty scenery from Games Workshop's Shadow War set: As well as one of the (fairly old) Orks as a test model. I started the rest of the squad but the access behind weapons etc. was really hard and I got a bit fed up with them, so they're not done yet... I also finished this Juggernaught of Khorne, although I haven't done the rider yet so it's a bit dodgy sneaking it in here... The base is temp too. Maybe my favourite model of the year is Bemular - he's sculpted from Super Sculpey and hot glue as a slightly overdone base for Bandai's Science Patrol VTOL. That was almost it for "proper" models as I got really into painting the new Death Guard models from Games Workshop. So far I've done a couple of plague marines and almost a squad of Poxwalker zombies. I'm too slow to paint armies really... They make a fun photography project though: Another Bandai diversion was the TIE Striker from Rogue One, I've made some of the other bits too but they aren't all done yet. although the hover-or-not tanks are pretty cool: The last things I finished in 2017 were the Stormcast Eternals from Shadespire - they took just a week to paint and are quite satisfyingly chunky models. On the almost-finished pile is this Zoid kit from Kotobukiya, which needs a pilot painting and a few scenic bits on top of the rock, but is otherwise done. I'm currently trying to finish off a super-secret project, more news soon, and I've picked up the Sandworm to do a bit more on over the holidays. Have a great 2018! Cheers and thanks for looking, Will

Until 2017, most of my building in recent years has been scratch building on model railways for customers. There have been a few plastic kits of buildings, but mostly scratch work in wood, styrene and acrylic; plus a bit of helping my daughter learn to build. This year, I've done some aircraft for myself, but quite a few models for friends, building aircraft they like, or aircraft that they fly or own. The idea to frame the models in a 3D picture frome came about from the "Snoopy verses the Red Baron" model my daughter and I built this year. It was a way to hang the model out of the way of damage, and to keep the dust off. It made a nice presentation and I thought it could work for other models. I've divided the builds up into themes to present them here. Most were built out of the box, with minimal changes, to keep the turnaround time reasonable, and because a lot of extra detailing wouldn't be seen once framed. The WW1 and WW2 modles are the first batch. WORLD WAR 1 I found some nice embroidered RFC wings on Ebay for £2.00 each which made a nice addition to the SE5a and Camel models. I drew the background map in the photo editing program GIMP and used some airshow and re-enacting photos to finish off the presentation. Because the Eindeckers rigging would be clearly on show, I added the rigging wires with some 0.1mm stainless steel wire. Revell Fokker E.III Revell SE5a ( 1964 manufactured kit ) Revell Fokker D.VII Revell Sopwith F-1 Camel WORLD WAR 2 Airfix Series 2 Mosquito This 1970's Airfix Series 2 Mosquito needed quite a bit of filling, but the low parts count helped to speed up the build. I scratch built some cockpit interior details to fill out the original empty space. Auster Mk.V TW439 AZ Models used to make a Mk.V Auster, but it appeared they were long out of production when I started looking. I ended up buying the Mk.III version, and using a silicone mould taken from a Piper Pawnee for the Mk.V's cowl. Other changes were home made decals, the addition of a wing mounted generator and belly tank, as per the full size example below. The Bf109, Spitfires, Hurricanes and P-51 were all built straight from the box, other than adding mounting hardware in the wings and fuselage. Airfix Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 2 off Airfix Spitfire Mk.II's 2 off Airfix Hurricane Mk.I's Revell P-51D Section 2 to follow shortly.....

Hi all, Sorry for the longer-than-usual absence over Christmas - I was involved with some more design work for Scale Models Wellington, then many late nights at the end of my work contract, which then got extended meaning more late nights. After that I had to do the Christmas shopping, cook the dinner etc. etc. and I'm only just winding down from all that. Next step is to clean the office so I can start using it for modelling again! In the meantime, here are the things I finished in 2016 - please don't ask about the things I started! I began with a couple of Cosmo Navy ships from Space Battleship Yamato 2199. These are Bandai kits but not as well-engineered as most of their models - the breakdown by colour made them harder to build neatly. (click the pictures for bigger/more) They're quite small as you can see: I then started a load of things (Guntank, Spice Harvester, Judge Anderson) and made great progress until all my spare time got eaten up by organising our Scale Models Expo - so many things needed to be designed and printed, floor plans worked out, communication with sponsors and stallholders etc. I was a bit grumpy about it because I really wanted to finish Judge Anderson for the show but couldn't. In the end I had one spare day and used it to mend and finish off my Airfix Tiger Moth: It's a really nice kit - less than perfect fit, but it's close and to my eyes the shape and detail are very good. I did replace the kit windscreens with new ones made from thin plastic sheet which was fiddly in the extreme! In June I picked up the new version of Lost Patrol from Games Workshop and painted a dozen Genestealers in just over a week - very fast for me! I also painted up the "infestation markers" and based them with jungly stuff including paper plants from Kamizukuri: One thing lead to another, and a collection of Spore Mines and a Mucolid Spore joined the horde: I made them some scenery from junk as a proof of concept and was pretty happy with it: I'm going to claim a completion here which is slightly inaccurate - this was the Bandai Real Grade Gundam 00, which I modified with a new backpack and weathered up. It's basically done but needs a base - I have finally acquired some N scale containers which I think will help with this but haven't done anything with them yet. Here's the suit though: Another break from Tyranids at this point was painting up these Brimstone Horrors from Silver Tower (also Games Workshop) in an evening or two. Simple models but it was really fun to try and do something loud! I then went back to the Tyranids and painted a Broodlord (boss Genestealer) and three Tyranid Warriors to complete the horde as it stands at the moment: They also got some opposition in the form of two of the Space Marine Scouts from the Lost Patrol box. These were speed-painted in a couple of evenings: Around this time, my friend Nathan who runs our local GW store encouraged me to enter the Armies on Parade competition so I had about six weeks to finish off the models and build a base for them. Which was a bit of a rush but I managed to get it done in the end. It was really fun to do some scenic modelling again and I hope to keep this kind of thing going. I was even happier when I won the Wellington store competition and got a funky golden metal medal thing I was hoping the diorama would do well in our club competition too but it wasn't the case - maybe the gaming bases were treated as flaws, or there was some nasty issue I didn't spot? The end of the year was disrupted by a moderate earthquake - not much damage in Wellington thankfully, but it was pretty scary and there are still buildings in town closed pending demolition. I used the time that I couldn't sleep to try my hand at polymer clay sculpting and made a bust of Bemular, the monster from the first episode of Ultraman. I haven't painted him yet so he isn't here, but I did finish the Bandai kit of the Science Patrol Jet VTOL to go with him: That was a very nice little model and I have picked up a couple of others along the same lines. I'm going to sneak a photo of Bemular in here because the sculpting is finished even if the painting isn't! Other things I've done this year that are related to modelling in some way: * Photographed the entries from our Scale Models Expo the IPMS Nationals and our Club Competition. * Wrote a build review of the first Master Box World of Fantasy models: * Took some publicity shots for our Expo press release (which got published!) * Made new posters for the club: (Model credits: ABC Warrior by Richard Alexander, Astromechs by Kevin Trew, and F40 GTE by Paul Edwards) * Acquired some display cases for the office at long last! And lastly I did a few more Photoshop jobs on my model images from the year, which I really enjoy We just now had another aftershock that was vigorous enough that we dived under the table :( Let's hope next year is calmer! Thanks as ever for all your support, this is such a great forum full of wonderful inspiring people! I rate it five dinosaur emoticons out of five. Cheers, Will

Figured it might be easier to post just the links, at least then you go and read up on them if you want. Two F8U-1As, a 1939 Willys gasser and a 2015 Peterbilt wrecker which is now done. I figure it would qualify of this year. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235001828-172-f8u-1-crusader-140444-and-140446-done/ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235000769-1939-willys-gasser-done/ http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235014127-2015-peterbilt-tri-axle-wrecker-done/

Hi all, I seem to have spent most of the year apologising for not finishing things! It's not a good look is it? But we did move house (unplanned, something came on the market we really liked after we'd just about committed to staying put). Then my wife spent a month swanning around Europe's ivory towers while I looked after small and kept up work. After that I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, here's what's emerged from the forest of started-and-unfinished threads this year: (click for bigger) A set of three Baldwin Steam Tanks from the wargame "All Quiet on the Martian Front" - these are nice little plastic models with OK fit. They painted up quite nicely despite the rather soft mouldings, and it was fun to go all-out with the modulation. The scale is a bit odd but they're about three inches long. The natural adversary for these tanks - a Martian Fighting Machine. Again this is quite a nice little plastic kit, painted with various Alclad shades. The winter was cold and in the new place my office-cum-modelling room is no longer the warmest space, so I retired to the sofa and painted little plastic men. These are all Games Workshop so a bit bigger than 28mm. This chap was "free" with the GW magazine. I thought the designs (fantasy cybermen?) were silly at first but they really grew on me and I ended up buying the starter box for Age of Sigmar to have more cybermen to paint. Especially this one! Amazing what they can do with the plastic now, these are incredibly complex for fixed-pose figures. I also painted a group of the Chaos adversaries: which taught me a fair bit about painting skin. I've been trying to be braver about contrast and neater with details. I amused myself painting chest and armpit hair onto some of them as you can see. I finished my figure painting off by doing their leader, Khorgos Khul, and his little dog too: he seemed to take forever and I was pretty burnt out from doing all the tiny details at the end. I loved painting his cape though: After that I started some things and didn't finish them (sorry Vietnam GB!) and finally got back into gear with this little Gundam - cheap and cheerful and a lot of fun: Since I've had a bit less modelling time this year, I've been looking for things to do with my existing models and I've been trying (inspired mainly by Andy Moore) to make my photography and presentation a bit more interesting: My favourite is probably this one which was shot on a model railway module in front of my window, and then messed with: I should mention two other things which have taken time away from modelling - I spent a month learning to sew in order to make costumes for a 40th Anniversary Rocky Horror screening, including a scratch-built antimatter laser made mainly from knitting needles. And I've been doing the posters and newsletters and website for our model club's Expo next year: Feel free to check out our website here - I'm probably going to change the yellow on white: Although I was following some guidelines for Wellington promotion on the council's website, the header would be better on dark grey. http://scalemodelswellington.org.nz/ If I'm lucky I will get to add one more model to the total this year: I am trying to psych myself up to fix the rigging strand that broke in the move... I leave you with the following - don't trust strange strange couples: Cheers! Will

Hi folks, I was putting off posting this in the hope that I'd get something else finished before Christmas, but after my contract finished last week I've spent my time either preparing for Christmas, doing some extra bug-fixing work, or being ill with the traditional end-of-contract cold. So we'll just have to make do with what there is up to now I had a late start to the year - I think it was February or March before I actually completed something, and that was the horrible squiggly beast which is Games Workshop's Tyranid Haruspex. I wasn't sure I liked this model initially but it grew on me after seeing some painted examples and I'm really glad I did one - painting icky stuff is childish fun. He still doesn't have a base, which is a bit sad, but eventually I'll figure something out. After that I made a little Schnellboot from Bronco's excellent 1/350 kit that I picked up on a work trip to the Bay Area. Almost out-of-the-box apart from some Fujimi sailors. The etch is scarily thin but I got it (mostly) fitted and it does add a lot of finesse. Around Easter I wanted some light relief from my still-unfinished LTAT GB project, Trumpeter's 1/200 Chinese destroyer "Anshan", which required a lot of bending, straightening, fixing and scratchbuilding: so I found Bandai's nice little kit of the gunship from Nausicaa in my stash. This is a rework of a Tsukuda Hobby kit, and has nice parts fit and characterful figures. I opted for a Zero green finish with a stripe and decal from a Ma.K kit: After that I built another Games Workshop kit which I didn't like initially, but grew on me. This was the new Wood Elf treeman, which I converted a bit, using two right hands and swapping the fingers and thumb over on one to make a left. That let me use both the big flowery staff, and the tendrils. I also trimmed his plaited beard and used it as a ponytail instead. This one was all about the painting, really, although the construction was fiddly owing to the many layers and fragile branches it went together well. We then had our club's BSK (Build the Same Kit) competition and amazingly we had enough votes for a Sci-Fi subject - the Battlestar Galactica Viper. Any variant was OK, I opted to build the newly-released Mark One from the original series. I went a bit far with the lighting on this one, making my own lighting rig with an onboard microprocessor controlling a mix of RGB and single-colour LEDs. I wrote an 8-bit animation system for the ATTiny controller which allowed me to keyframe all the lighting and made it easy to create some neat effects. I also made a seat and harness from epoxy putty, and rebuilt some of the naff detail on the landing gear legs. I left the painting and finishing rather late and it was a mad rush but I'm glad I got it done on time. After a difficult build I tend to retreat into the figures again, and I painted these fiddly-to-build Warhammer ghosts. The basic colours were airbrushed and then I used a lot of edge higlighting and glazes to get a glowy ghostly look. My wife thinks they look like floating cabbage though I then had a kit which went straight from the letterbox to the workbench. This was Eduard's MiG-15 dual combo bought cheap from HLJ. I'm a bit scared of aircraft in general, and small scale aircraft in particular, but I mostly enjoyed doing this one and I'm happy to have painted my first metal finish. I used the provided etch for the cockpit, and the resin rockets, but not the resin pylons or etched u/c details - the rest was quite fiddly enough, thanks! I still need to finish the second MiG... And last of all (so far) is Tamiya's Mark IV Male tank. I knew I was going to buy this as soon as it was announced, and again it went straight from the model shop to the workbench. I would've entered it in the WW1 GB but stupidly I forgot, and because it was so easy to build I was too far in when I remembered. The rather quick-and-dirty base (all done in a day) was to get it up off the table for our club competition, since I think the rhomboid tanks look better angled up a bit. I also tackled my fear of painting "proper" figures and had a first go at something in 1/35 - a modified figure from the British Infantry set included in the export releases. I think he came out OK, hopefully with practice and a bit more time/care I can get better at this. It's motorised (I love toys!) and you can lift it off the base and run it. No issues so far with the mud and so on getting in the way. I suspect it could be bedded-in better if assembled static, but I wasn't going to miss out on running over other models on the table, was I? And that's my lot! Not a huge collection but I like them all for different reasons, and I had fun making them. I also have a slew of WIPs to pick up - the Anshan, an assembled and primed Zvezda Topol, a vinyl figure, more GW stuff, and a scratchbuilt starship which was going great guns and then suddenly stopped for reasons I don't quite understand! I also did some non-modelling-modelling-stuff this year - I've never been much of a joiner of things, but I've been a member of Scale Models Wellington for a couple of years now and have taken over editing the club magazine, which means I'm on a committee (my first!) Ulp. So far I'm surviving (If you're interested in our club we have a Facebook group - all welcome.) Thanks to everyone on Britmodeller for being such a supportive and interesting bunch, and particularly those who have commented on the various WIPs or prodded me when I got stuck. It's really appreciated. Best wishes and happy Christmas! Will

I joined the forum at the end of February 2012, and that coincides with my starting to shift towards plastic modelling rather than railway modelling. I've been putting off making this list since I found I finished less than I would've liked, but maybe if I put it up it'll encourage me to at least get Surcouf onto a stand before the weekend Britmodeller has been an awesome source of inspiration this year and has got me making models instead of just looking at them. Hasegawa Ju87D Stuka in 1/32, with Eduard etch and Mastercasters' exhausts and prop blades. Built for the Big Scale Group Build (WIP, Flickr) Bandai Shinkai 6500 DSV in 1/48. (WIP, Flickr) Aoshima reissue of IMAI's Mole in 1/72, with motors and lights (WIP, Flickr) Tamiya T-55 "Enigma" in 1/35 - still haven't painted the commander (WIP, Flickr) Games Workshop Ork Bommer in 28mm (WIP, Flickr) Hobby Boss U-boot type VIIB in 1/350 (WIP, Flickr) I also finished off a module for my model railway around Easter time: Whitemarsh Yard in 1/72 (Flickr) and painted some minis at the start of the year: Games Workshop's Dreadfleet (Flickr) I started but didn't finish a Dragon Wagon and M4A3 in 1/72, Porco Rosso's Savoia in 1/48, Surcouf in 1/350, Space Battleship Yamato in 1/500, and an F-22 in 1/72. I'm currently working on a WHIF F-22, an F-117A and a CV9040. Thanks for looking, hopefully I can manage a slightly longer list this year Will
