  1. Evening chaps hope you are all well! Im having some issues with with decalling up my airfix spitfire mk1a.. I cant get the little devils to suck into the panel lines/trenches! I am using Hannants xtradecal battle of britian sheets and revell decal soft as my setting fluid, the kit has been brush painted in humbrol enamels, then coated with lakeland quickshine (note i had the same issue using astonish!) Im thinking that the revell decal softener isn't compatible with xtradecals? ive used revells decal soft on cartograf and airfix decals and i had no issues?! Seen as i
  2. Here is my entry for the RAF Centenary GB. Academy Spitfire FR.XIVe, certainly not the most accurate Spitfire on the planet, but is nicely moulded and a fairly hassle free build. I am certainly on a Spitfire roll on the moment and doing a Far Eastern machine in SEAC colours is slightly different. Looks the business with that big red spinner. Using a smart set of Xtradecal. I won’t be starting for a week or so as have a trip away planned for this week. Some photos. Thank for looking.
  3. Here she is, in her full 1950's glory. The bright decals make it better I think. Not as simple to make as I was expecting, as the Mistercraft kit needs a bit of cutting and sanding to make an F.6, but in the end I thought I'd use one of the Xtradecal options to brighten her up.
  4. Folks I'm doing the Trumpeter 1/32 Lightning with the Whirlybird conversion. I'm at the decalling stage but Trumpeter's serials are bigger than the supplied Xtradecal sheet. Can somebody please tell me what size the serials would be in 1/1 scale for fuselage & underwing, so I can scale down. thanks Steve.
  5. Hey guys, So i'm working up to a build here for when I get back, I'm gonna do the Revellgawa 1/72 He-111 H6. I wanted to do something a bit different so I got the Xtradecal set for it, annoyingly, for the scheme I want to do there's no paint guides and I can't find anything online. I was wondering if you guys could give help? That is the old kite I want to do. I am totally fine just winging it with some artistic license on the top surfaces of the wings but if anyone knows of any decent reference photos I would really appreciate the help! Cheers
  6. Hawker Tempest II 26 Sqn, Zeltweg, Austria, 1947 I was recently sorting some old kits and found a half-finished Matchbox Tempest in a Heller Tempest box, so I decided to get on with it. This has most of the Matchbox trenches filled with Milliput (though I must admit I got a bit lazy when it came to the engine cowling area) and panel lines/fasteners drawn in with pencil, which was then sealed with Klear. Markings are from Xtradecal. I found illustrations of this aircraft with a red spinner and also a blue / white spinner, but I went with the Xtradecal illustration. Satisfying to have re
  7. Another one finished. This is the new tool Airfix kit that i paid the princely sum of 5.00 for before xmas. and I wanted to do something different. so with the help of Sean_M and his Top Notch brand i acquired some of his Vinyl masks for a pattern b Mk Vb convinced i had a Pat b set of decals at home for them only to find....... no they were all pattern A so I got this sheet from the big H and this has a spitfire that was flown off HMS Eagle in March 1942 most of which were destroyed on the ground when they landed. having spoke to others they confirmed what i thought that the undercarriage loo
  8. Hello Gentlemen, this will be my entry to the F4U Corsair STGB. Tamiya 1/72 scale Bird Cage Corsair The model sprues. Xtradecal Set X72140 Yanks with Roundels Part 1 The Decal Sheet. Eduard Zoom Set SS270 Thanks for looking, Joe
  9. Hello and welcome to 2016! My last build from 2015, the first to be presented in the new year. Sword 1/72 Spitfire XVIe with photo etch from Brengun, Vacu canopy from Squadron and Decals from Xtradecals. Represents SM309/AU-H, “Panama Bound” of 421(Royal Canadian Air Force) Squadron in 1945. Flown by Flt.Lt. Richard “Hap” Beal. Painted with acrylics from Gunze/Mr.Hobby. Main Inspiration for this build was the model by Mr. Jekl, as seen on Britmodeller: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234949348-supermarine-spitfire-mkxvi-172-sword/ Pictures by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Ca
  10. Q: How do you eat an elephant? A: One spoonful at a time. Okily dokily, lets pick a spoonful: This marking option stood out: unusually small under wing roundels and an accomplished pilot with 4 kills during the Battle of Britain. He survived and rose to Wing Commander no less. Nothing added except belts and I have to scrounge an instrument panel which was sacrificed pointlessly to the 'orrble Airfix 1/72 IX many moons ago. (Edit) Found this reference shot of the actual plane courtesy of the interweb (public domain picture). Now I know which aerial mast and canopy to use, wonder
  11. Hello! I'm doing a Harrier GR.3 using Xtradecal X72186 to do XV778 during the exercise Cold Winter in 1979. I got a little confused by the painting instructions for the sheet since the side views show Light Aircraft grey underside, but the top/bottom views shows wraparound grey/white distemper over green. I've painted the underside Light aircraft Grey and masked everything when the I started to doubt the entire thing... Should I repaint the underside in wraparound grey green or not? BR //Christer
  12. Here's my latest completed build Its the Hobbyboss Hellcat F6F-5 built as a Fleet Air Arm Gannet Mk.II of 804 NAS aboard HMS Ameer in December 1944 The kit is straight OOB with decals from Xtradecal Enjoy ScottC
  13. Good morning, just to show some progress of the Academy Crusader. I will add the aires cockpit set (the first I ever used), and the quickboost flaps. As you may know, if the wind is raised, the flaps/slats will automatically come down. It's something which academy has forgotten. For the decals, I will use the excellent sheet from Xtradecal. I started with the white parts, which are built into the fuselage. It's all gunze flat white acrylic, then a brush cote of the german "clear" (Erdal Glänzer), and some oil wash. Wheels are done with revell anthrazite, brush painted, after a drop of highly
  14. On Hannant's 'Future Releases' list - http://www.hannants.co.uk/product/X72217 I'll be in for one of these, for sure Cheers, Stew
  15. Was'on For my next project I'll be building the 1/48 Eduard P-47D 'Jugs over Europe' edition kit. It will be built OOB apart from a HGW Sutton harness and Xtradecals decals and it will be built as Thunderbolt II S/N KL328 '14' which was on strength with 73 OTU, Fayid Egypt 1945. So far I've completed the engine with the only additions being some wire to representing the ignition harness.. And I've also started on the engine cowling, painting it using Citadel paints with Boltgun as the base with the cowling flaps in Mithril silver.. Well that's it for now Yours aye Iain
  16. I am currently working on one of the recent Mk.1 Hurricane's from Airfix (the 111 Squadron/Belgium box)and finishing it as SD-A, L2039 in the colours of 501 Squadron Featured on Xtradecal set 72193, from May 1939 as per this photo-> (http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Hurricane/RAF-501Sqn-SD/pages/Hurricane-MkI-RAF-501Sqn-SD-A-L2039-Montagu-Clube-crash-landing-Tangmere-1st-May-1939.html)and was hoping for some guidence regarding some of the details, in particular, would the prop be the 2 blade or 3 blade type?(looking at the discarded hub I'm thinking 3), would the red doped patches on the wing l
  17. Ok so I am doing the Heller 1:48 Jaguar GR1A from 54 Squadron from 1991. It is XZ112 and has the blue fin with the yellow and blue chevrons on the drop tanks. Now the Heller kit gives you these decals but they are black not blue and also the are frankly awful! Xtradecal looks to have done a set in 1:72 and 1:48 but I can't seem to find any so I thought I would ask on here to see if anyone had any? Happy to purchase! Thanks Chris
  18. Hi All, Well you know what they say, you can never have too many spitfires... Just finished build number 2 for the year, which going at my slow work rate would be something of an achievement if i hadn't got most of the actual construction complete before Christmas I started this in the vain hope/anticipation that a major manufacturer would bring out a more accurate mk.XIV from the box but well..theres always next year... As the title says, this is the Academy Mk XIVc kit with the Daco improvement set grafted on to it. The kit itself is lovely to build, with great fit and finely rende
  19. With all the hype of the Eduard Spitfire there hasn't been much time for any mention of the other new releases! From Eduard besides the Spitfire, we also have the 1/48 F6F-3 Hellcat Weekend in stock. We have also got the latest 1/48 and 1/72 Brassin resin, Colour Zoom Etch and Mask sets in, although the Brassin is awaiting restocks! We also have got the 1/72 MPM Meteor 'Trent' - again it's awaiting restocks though! Lastly in this last week, we have the latest Xtradecal sets in 1/48 and 1/72 for 1/72 V-22 Ospreys and 1/48 Ospreys + Jet Provosts but again they are all awaiting restocks! htt
  20. Hello all, Only joined BM a couple of weeks ago - found the site whilst researching tips for the big Mossie Mrs Card got me for Christmas. It's very close to completion now, so I thought I'd post a couple of pics of where I am and what I've learnt on my return to the habit after a long break. Here's the beast as is (astute observers will spot the bit I've left to do - more later): I really wanted the AEAF stripes, and spotted the Xtradecal scheme at Hannants, so I've followed that. I'll post some build pics later on. Lessons learned: 1) The cost of the kit is about 1/3rd of what I
  21. Well, it's been a while since I last logged in and posted an update on my modelling. To be honest, I lost interest in modelling for the best part of a year and it's only since Christmas that I've been doing anything - slowly getting back into the swing of it. At the moment it's mostly finishing off stuff I couldn't face, back when the modelling urge left me and a number of fairly undemanding OOBs. The first to report is that TSR2 that I was working on (and had a hissy fit over...). Here she is in her glory,. Nothing like as classy as some of the other Britmodeller's TSR2's. I know, I know. I
  22. Hi Here is my Airfix 1/72 Hawk TMk2 bought in the recent Jadlam sale for £7. I built it from the box with the only additions being masking tape seat belts, a cut-down dress-maker's pin for the pitot and the very nice Xtradecal RAF Anniversary Update 2011/2012 I sprayed the model with Tamiya X-1, and following the decal application, I brushed on a coat of Klear (removing some of the minuscule stencil decals in the process!) I didn't use all the Airfix stencils, as I felt that they might ruin the look of the model. I'm sorry about the picture quality, but the winter overcast is
