  1. Hello, I am keen on building this particular machine - an Mk.XVI, RK840 of 322 Squadron RAF (Dutch). So far, all I have are decal instructions (which state that the appearance, i.e. the profile below, is a probable reconstruction), (img source: Wings Palette) And this CMR kit review at Hyperscale with a bit of machine's history. I would like to ask You for help on these two querries: Are there any period photos to confirm this profile and the decal instructions? Could the accurate shade of blue color used on the spinner be confirmed? Thanks in advance. Aleksandar
  2. I have just finished my latest build (none since last year due to moving house) and my first Eduard build and it was great! I am by no means great at building but really enjoy it so I'm happy Painted with an airbrush with Tamiya acrylics, no weathering (as yet!) and decals/PE eduards own.
  3. Hello fine folk of Britmodellerland, If I may I'd like to share this little project with you? It is intended to be a gentle amble through one of Tamiya's uber kits, their 1/32nd scale Spitfire Mk.XVI. I have begun building this in a group build as a tribute to Edgar Brooks who most will know passed away recently. Fairwell and blue skies sir. Originally the only Spitfire I wished to build was a Battle of Britain era airframe. Having recently completed the new tool Revell offering I appear to have banished those demons and decided to try something different. This is the closest I could get to the last of the line without enormous modification or resorting to the Revell (old Matchbox) Mk.24. (Secretly I'd like Tamiya to release a Mk.47 Seafire with contra-rotating props but I can't see it happening in my lifetime.) So here we are. A low back Spitty with a bubble canopy and (probably) a silver finish. This one will be largely out of the box although I reserve my right to deviate from that course when the mood takes me. For now, let's get started. Following the instructions (often a wise course of action with these complex Tamiya kits) has us begin by adding this little item to the port fuselage cockpit wall. Step 1: I began by painting the fuselage halves in MrMetalColor buffable aluminium which allowed me some leeway to scratch the green acrylic coat to simulate a little wear. More cockpit sidewall details in step 2, this time to the starboard side. Step 2: Finally for this short introduction post, step 3 which allows us to assemble the compass using a natty photo-etched bracket and plastic compass part. I replaced the kit compass decal with one from Airscale. http://www.airscale.co.uk/ This appears better than the kit item to me. Step 3: So, we're off. Next up, the IP but that will have to wait a while as I'm away. Back with more when I can. Cheers.
  4. Hello everyone. Just finished another build, its Academys 1/48 Spitfire XIV. I know this kit gets a lot of stick but for the money it is still a very good kit to put together. I have finished this one OOB, except for a spare Airfix spinner (the Academy one is awful), different radiator housings (can't remember which kit they came from) and Brengun exhausts (they are too small but still better than Academys.) The only problem i had with the kit was the decals. They were a pig to get on. No amount of Microsol would get them to bed down properly and even now (10 days) since finishing they are still coming away and peeling. I don't know if this aircraft had clipped wings but unfortunately I lost one of the normal wing tips and have had to make do. Its sprayed with Tamiya rattle cans and been given a wash and light weathering. All comments welcome. Mark.
  5. Hi all, Well this item will finally complete my bubble top collection. After recently completing the Airfix Lanc, this build should be easy and relaxing... (i hope) Ill do it mostly OOB. More to follow... Ben.
  6. Hi all, Built and painted this in a matter of a few hours so its totally OOB except decals. Nothing fancy, not much time and effort put unto this kit as I've only built it to at last complete my Spitfire collection. Im pleased with the result. The kit isnt fantastic but it completes my collection at last. Ill upload a pic of my entire collection tomorrow. Ben.
  7. I wonder if anyone could assist with some information on Photo reconnaisance mosquitos. I'm just about to start a build of a PR mk XVI using the 1/48th Tamiya kit with CMK conversion, but would like to model the bomb bay / camera bay open to show the cameras and fuel tanks. However, I'm struggling to find photos of PR Mosquitos with the bomb bay doors open. Could they be opened or were they taped shut? Presumably the presence of the cameras in there meant that access was important pre-flight, but the lack of photos is puzzling me. Any pointers welcomed Alastair
  8. Noticed it the other day - rather lacklustre box art IMO. Anyone know if the actual moulding quality on the Revell kits is better than ICM's? Cheers Jonners
