I examined my logs - and 99% of my builds so far were non-jet. The single jet in the list was built as a present to my Dad, so I have no jet on any of my shelves. What better choice for a first jet built for my shelf then the iconic X-1. I picked this one a while a go, and while I have the Eduard 1/48 kit as well, this one grabbed my attentions due to its clear parts and internal structure. So here it is: Very very simple, not to many parts and they are soooo small (I promised myself to never build another 1/72 without a VERY good reason) Clear parts were dipped in Future. The fuselage parts were a challenge as I dip into the bottle itself. First plastic cut and glued: The balance weight ball is a nice touch: It's too late for airbrushing tonight - so this will be it for today. Comments are welcomed as always Ran

Hi The carpet monster ate my Bell X-1, 1/72, main wheel (parts B6+B7) If you have a wheel to spare that matches the X-1 wheel - please let me know It's 7.45mm in diameter and 3.18mm thick I've contacted Tamiya but this kit is out of production and they do not have spares. Thanks Ran

Here's an intermediate built, the Eduard Bell X-1 Mach Buster. Although a relative older kit, it falls together like a charm. Maybe not too much detail, but the orange works very well in the cabinet. Hope you like.

I'm posting this picture as a humorous response to Corsairfoxfouruncle, who stated over in SimonL's 1.72 Tamiya Bell X-1 WIP that " id like to see any X-planes as they're a Favorite of mine", something to help his day along. These are all various 1/72 kits, from plastic to resin to vacuform, and represent only a few of mine which happen to be grouped together in the display case. They are also a favorite of mine! Missing from this group is the Douglas D-558 II, which I have yet to build, but hoprfully will accomplish this year. Ed

Bell X-1 Decals and Stencils 1:32 MH Models Now, MH Models are new to this reviewer and I was passed this set from another BM member who received them from the company. They appear to be a Czech form of Local Model Shop that has decided to produce their own decals and masks. As a first effort I think they have done very well. Inside the ziplock poly bag you will find quite a large sheet of paint masks and a small, but well filled decal sheet. The decals are very well printed in good register and with minimal carrier film. They look very thin and only usage will determine how they adhere and settle down, hopefully without breaking up. There are decals and masks for other Bell X-1s in the program not just Chuck Yeager’s aircraft. There is a full set of stencils for both the exterior of the aircraft and the cockpit, along with the famous name, us titles, test site name and the Bell Aircraft logo. The larger items, such as the national insignia, photographic crosses, identification codes etc come in the form of paint masks which are pretty easy to use once you have found the correct colours. The instructions only show the markings for Glamorous Glennis so research will need to be carried out if other aircraft are to be modelled. Conclusion As stated above, for a first product I think MH Models have done very well. The masks are die cut, so easy to remove from their backing sheet and the decals are very well printed. Apart from the extra research required for the other X-1s I’m quite happy to recommend them to anyone who has the 1:32 kit. Sample provided by MH Models
