  1. As the X20 is finished and just awaiting some brighter weather to photograph, I reckon I just about have time to build this one. The kit is one of a number produced by Bandai in 1/72nd of Star Wars craft. They can be built as snap together with no or minimal painting, or as traditional kits. Both self-adhesive and waterslide transfers are provided with options for Luke Skywalker's Red 5 or an X wing from a later film. The kit is very well moulded and well detailed. Of course, the film models details were courtesy of a variety of kits from the seventies. I trust the force will be strong with me on this one.
  2. Last November I purchased some tiny white metal X wings and Tie Fighters from @BritJet for a small amount. Cheers, Mate! Over the last few weeks I've braved the cold mancave for an hour or so at a time in order to get them sorted. I think the scale is probably around 1/200. Anyway, they're tiny, and after some fettling they went together with superglue. Paint is simple white primer and markings were done (not very well) with ink. They're not going to win prizes but hey. A few years ago I built a Star Wars wall display. It's supposed to be part of a Star Destroyer. I can't remember the scale I chose for it, One of the ship building scales I remember. So these are too big really. The fighters are suspended on invisible thread and held in place by gobs of UHU glue. The Tie Fighters. Interceptors I think? Not suspended as yet, but just sitting in the maintenance trench for now. I'll try something bigger next time. These were too small and fiddly for my fingers. As always, comments and brickbats are always welcome. Thanks for looking, Pete
  3. A couple of weeks ago I received a box of spare parts for my scratchbuilds from a fellow BM member (Thanks again, Ben) Amongst the tank bits were the parts for an old part painted Ertl X wing. I've never built one and, me being me, decided a few changes might improve it. It struck me that if these things were dogfighting in atmosphere then a good turning circle would be an idea. So why not use spoilers? same as the Snowspeeder. While I was at it, a different low viz (ish) paint scheme might be good too. And, markings, well, The D day aniversary is coming up shortly! So, onto the pictures. The stand is an old Airfix jobbie, the plaque came with the kit. You can see the RH spoilers deployed. I added a tank side skirt down each side as extra armour. Something like the Fw 190's used. The pilot is from the spares box. A better view of the side armour. The camo is Tamiya rattle cans. The darker one from a distance for the mottled effect. Rather than red 2 or whatever I thought D day stripes might look good, especially with the anniversary coming up. The spoilers are actually made from HO railway fencing. The yellow areas in the wings/foils should be voids but with the spoilers I decided they'd need beefing up. So I added card and a couple of tank bits with Forth bridge rivets in them. And a view from behind. The other side has the spoilers retracted. I added tank wheels and bits of track here on the back of the foils. The R2 astro unit is currently trying to find a vector out of the mancave. I added a couple of service points underneath. More tank bits. And a Spitfire radiator forward of them. It hides a slot in the plastic. And that's your lot. It was an enjoyable build, the only 'straight' (ish) kit I've build in a very long time. But I started another kreiger scratchbuild today! Thanks very much for looking and your comments are welcome. Pete
