  1. Hey, This is my first post and first model, please don´t be too hard to me. I will build a Beoing 777-300ER in the livery of Air India. My Camera is damaged , so picture will follow in future. Yesterday I mad my first airbrush layer, some mistakes included, but I think I will figure it out how to improve my airbrush skills.   2. Progress so far comments appreciated. I think my paint work has improved since the gun leander, can't manage regular photo updates as son assists with tech and I am a slow learner, Thanks to other leander modellers for research, which has helped my build. Cheers Brian.

Mr Dennis Healey (MP for Leeds East): No, I cannot be certain about everything but, I think that it is possible to take some decisions now and that a Government with any sense of responsibility to the British people must take those decisions which it is possible to take... -- Hansard, 7 March 1966, "Defence" During the 1960s, a curious sort of undeclared war was waged between Indonesia on one hand, and Malaysia, Singapore, and their western guarantor, Great Britain on the other. In early 1960s, the Indonesians had fought a similar war against their former colonial masters, the Dutch in an attempt to gain control of what was then Dutch New Guinea. This had involved paratroops, aeronaval combat (a Dutch P-3 and surface warships sank three Indonesian torpedo boats), and ultimately attracted the attention of the Soviet Union, who supplied a Sverdlov-class cruiser to bolster Indonesian naval capabilities. (This was the Ordzhonikidze, which Lionel Crabbe had famously been killed while trying to secretly inspect in 1956.) Ultimately, the overstretched Dutch, who had won every battle, were persuaded to give the Indonesians everything they wanted in a 1962 peace conference. President Sukarno was confident this strategy would work again. As it happened, things didn't quite work out that way, and in a remarkable campaign, conducted largely on the cheap, the British, along with their SEATO allies from Australia and the Malaysian and Singaporean people, emerged triumphant. One of a handful of RAF squadrons to participate (and one of a very few to fire weapons in anger after WWII) was 20 Squadron, whose motto is, appropriately, "Facta non verba". During the Confrontation, they flew Hawker Hunters, a jet which, to be entirely honest with you, has never been my favourite for looks, but I still have at last count nine Revell 1/72 kits of it, so here we are. I'm using a RAFDecals aftermarket sheet, and Freightdog's corrected wheel set -- I can't see the difference, but I trust Colin on this one. God knows how long it will take to build.
  4. What If III Group Build. After the Torrey Canyon disaster in March 1967, the RAF and the Royal Navy came in for criticism as 25% of the 42 bombs dropped missed the target. The main reason being was, not the lack of skill by the Pilots but bomb technology was lagging behind aircraft technology. The Royal Navy was asked to form a ground attack squadron to help develop tactics with the new bombs being developed for the armed forces. The squadron was to be land based, but able to operate not only from Royal Navy Aircraft Carriers, but also U.S. Navy Carriers when required as some of the trials would be from U.S. Ships. The decision was taken to obtain Douglas A-1 Skyraiders from America. The American Navy was phasing the Skyraider out, and starting to receive the LTV A-7 Corsair II. Not only could the Skyraider operate from US Navy Ships, but the American maintainers knew these aircraft very well. Another advantage, was the fact that they would cost less to operate than front line jets such as the Buccaneer. They would be based at RNAS Culdrose (HMS Seahawk) in Cornwall. The Skyraider had been operated by the Royal Navy before with the AEW version of the aircraft, so had some experience of the type. This squadron would be operating for approximately 2 years during the trials period. The aircraft would be painted in Extra Dark Sea Grey and Sky, as were other Royal Navy propeller aircraft of the time. The responsibility was given to 700 NAS, which was, and still is to this day, an Intensive Flying Trials Unit (IFTU). Originally formed in January 1940 at RNAS Hatston (HMS Sparrowhawk) in Orkney. It was intended for the squadron to be formed in January 1968, to 1970 operating with the Suffix letter A. Thus being known as 700A NAS. At the same time, 700 squadron would also be carrying out IFTU duties with the introduction of the McDonnell Douglas F-4K Phantom II FG.1. This squadron would be known as 700P NAS . As the intention was for cross deck operations with the American Navy, a decision was made to paint colourful tail markings as was common with US Naval Aircraft at the time. On account of the squadrons connection with hawks (formed at HMS Sparrowhawk, and now stationed at HMS Seahawk), it was decided to incorporate a bird of prey in the tail art work. 700A operated sea trials on several Royal Navy ships including, HMS Ark Royal (R09) and HMS Eagle (R05). USS Forrestal (CV-59) was the first American ship 700A performed trials on while she was in the Mediterranean during 1968. As they were based in Cornwall, they became known as the Pirates of Penzance by the Americans. This led to a Pirates head being painted on the engine cowl of their aircraft. In September of 1969, the Skyraiders of 700A embarked on the USS Independence (CV-62) for a NATO exercise in the North Atlantic (NORLANT). During this exercise, the USS Independence participated in testing the Hawker Siddeley Harrier in flight deck operations. Incidently, 700A would form again in 1979 operating the new BAe Sea Harrier FRS1. The unit would paint the same tail markings on the tails of their Sea Harriers, that was painted on the Skyraiders embarked on the USS Independence during that exercise. After a very successful trials period, 700A was decommissioned in early 1970's. 700 NAS returned to RNAS Culdrose from 1998-2008 operating as 700M NAS with the Agusta Westland Merlin HM.1 and again in 2014, until the present day as 700X NAS testing the Boeing Insitu ScanEagle. Hi guys recently purchased an original Frog kit of the Gannet, unfortuneatly I was buying it with rose tinted nostalgia glasses, was surprised to see it had three heads poking out of a solid cockpit, anyway i'm afraid I did the unthinkable, yes I lopped there heads off, shame on me. But I then cut out the blank plate on top and shaped the cocpit, I then built two tubs for the seats, and glued them in, so currently the fuselage is complete just waiting for Eduard cockpit items to arrive, I also contacted Revell and spoke to a very nice lady about the possibility of aquiring a set of their decals from their current Gannet kit, she was going to see if its possible. One thing I did find out they have stopped production of the Gannet. Anyway I will keep you informed of my progress. Cheers

  7. This is my first work in progress on britmodeller. I'm going to build Porco Rosso's Savoia S.21. For those of you who have never heard of this cartoon character here is a link to explain, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porco_Rosso The kit is manufactured by FineMolds and is in 1/48th scale. The model consist of 90 parts moulded in red, tan and grey with one clear part and 2 poly caps. There is also a decal sheet. I ordered the kit from HLJ.   8. I am new to Britmodeller and I am hoping to get constructive criticism on the kits I have built and painted so far. I need to work out how to post the pictures on here but I have been doing this for about a year and a half and I enjoy it very much. I lost my son in an accident almost two years ago and I fell into this hobby as a means of distraction, little did I know how much it would take hold of me. So,please be honest and constructive. I am hoping to improve my skills and maybe one day enter competitions. Thank you
  9. I have an obsession about Iron Man. I'm not sure what it is, possibly Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark, I'm not sure. All I know is that I have what some may consider a strange obsession with him. I have built the Moebius Iron Man kit (MKVI) which I fitted with LEDs so that his hands, eyes and arc reactor lit up. I then built the MKVII by Dragon which didn't go so great, the paint was a little gloopy and I enjoy brush painting and tried to brush paint Iron Man but it didn't work out very well. He looks great from a distance but, close up, he looks a bit ropey. So, when the latest Dragon Iron Man appeared in my (semi)local modelshop, I couldn't resist. The MK XLII is an absolutely stunning kit. The pieces looked great even on the sprue when I opened the box in the shop. I don't have these pictures because I didn't think that far ahead at the time. The kit fits together nicely, the front body armour and back body armour took a little persuading when trying to click them together over the 'skeleton' but once I managed it, it looks great. One good thing about doing a few different Iron Man kits is that I was able to learn by trial and error of what worked and what didn't. I knew that brushes didn't give a clean enough effect. I have already said about my obsession with Iron Man so I wanted him to look good. I chose Tamiya sprays for MK XLII but did not spray the pieces before I assembly. I've realised since then that might have been a better idea. Any way, It's not far from finished but still requires masking on both legs and one arm and the spraying finished. Until then, here he is...Dragon 1/9 MKXLII Iron Man from Marvel Studio's, Iron Man 3. I hope you like him. I am buying more masking tape this weekend so I can finally get him finished.

Hello Everyone, Sorry to post this negative forum but I have to alert all modelers and new comers like myself to a recent bad customer service I got from a Decal marker that goes by the name Modelarstwoalexander. AKA AviationCivil decals since 25th October 2013 up till now I never got back my money or a reply as to where is my decal order..This person is a bloody Thief and a Fraud.. please read Airlinescafe post.. Modelarstwoalexander. Here is the pics of the decal and the airline I wanted to do.. as a result of this I have a plan white MD 80 missing its decal
  12. Whilst waiting for the decals for my Lanc to appear thought I'd make a start on this one. Managed to get it for £15.00 from Modezone so here we go Nice Box art but a but flash for me Some good photo detail included in instructions alternative markings 4 main sprues and plenty of glass Interior not very detailed but not horrible
