  1. In 2010 Airfix reissued their old Gosling kit in the new red box with markings for the same FAA version as before plus a USCG Widgeon. Are the transfers included in this boxing any good? I have found myself buying several ancient Airfix fossils (eg Walrus) just for the decent transfers they include nowadays but I have this suspicion that the Gosling dates from the period pre Cartograph when Airfix were including poor quality transfers made in India that looked very thin and liable to disintegrate. Would not want to waste my money on them. Am I right in my suspicion?
  2. This is another kit built for the recent Classic Airfix Group Build. This kit dates from 1959, and although this was a much more recent boxing of it, it's a bit of a shocker to be honest. Every part will fight you as you try to build it. My top tip is to remove the locating pins or file them down much thinner as they seem to all be out of position. Dear Airfix of you are reading this please update this kit, it's not doing you any favours. Build / Battle in progress below This is how it turned out, not as good as I would have liked, but let me know what you think. cheers Pat
  3. AZ model is to release (in 2016) 1/72nd Grumman G-44 Gosling/Widgeon kits. Source: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234931186-azmodellegatoadmiral-wwii-aircraft-comments-questions-and-wishes/?p=2147039 V.P.
  4. Westland Widgeon (Helicopter not to be confused with the fixed wing aircraft of the same name). This was a private venture based on improving the Westland WS-51 Dragonfly, which was a licensed Sikorsky design. The Widgeon increased the cabin capacity and replaced the Dragonfly's rotor head, blades and gearbox with the units used in the Westland Whirlwind. Three Dragonfly Series 1As were converted to WS-51 Series 2 Widgeons, and the first one flew on 23 August 1955. An additional 12 new builds were completed. They were used in the UK by Bristow helicopters, and overseas by Brasil, Ceylon, Hong Kong and Jordan. Restored by and now on display at The Helicopter Museum in Weston-Super-Mare. Pictures mine.
