  1. I'm looking at the old Monogram P-61 and as a product of its age the wheels aren't that well detailed. But I'm thinking they look a lot like the wheels on the A-26 Invader. Did aircraft manufacturers manufacture their own wheels or were these an "off the shelf" item they selected to suit the calculated loads etc? I have a spare set of wheels from an A-26 and thinking they'd be a big improvement over the P-61 wheels.
  2. Hi guys, Can't find any complaints on 'tinternet'. I have just received an order which includes 3 sets of aftermarket Reskit 1:72 resin wheels (RS72-0287) for early Hurricanes I will be building later. They are far too small and are more like 1:100 scale. They are far smaller than all other kits I have! The tail wheel is ok. In the same order are sets of Reskit Bf109E wheels and the size is fine (cracking looking detail!). Anyone else purchased said RS72-0287 wheels and anyone know the outside diameter of an actual Hurricane Mk1 tyre? Regards, Lindsey
  3. Dear All, I have just bought replacement Aires resin wheels for my Airfix Lancaster (the 1980's version) but have never used resin parts before so wanted to check if I need to do anything special to them before painting other than cleaning/degreasing as usual please? As for the wheels themselves they look spot on and superior to those in the kit although I gather those in the new kit are excellent. Also if anyone has any tips on how best to paint the wheels so that they look more realistic it would be appreciated as I normally paint them black and then add some dark-ish grey pastel dust to the main tread area to simulate wear but this still leaves the side walls looking rather unrealistic and far too black and matt in scale. Thank you and stay safe. Kind Regards Colin.
  4. P-51D Wheels 1:48 Eduard Brassin - For Eduard Kit Kit Wheel Sets Arriving the envelopes we normally see the PE in, Eduard have gone to town providing different tread pattern wheels for their new kit. All are well cast with separate hubs, each set includes a new tail wheel, and masks (not shown) . 648511 Diamond Tread 648512 Rhomboid Tread 648513 Pointed Cross Tread 648514 Grooved Tread 648505 Block Tread 648504 Cross Tread 648503 Oval Tread Review samples courtesy of
  5. Hawker Hunter wheel set for Revell kit (72054) 1:72 SBS Model The Revell Hunter is great kit, but like a lot of kits the wheels are a not as good as resin replacements can be, this is a drop in set once they have been removed from their blocks. Conclusion This is a good set and should pose no problems. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of Insert other media
  6. B-25 Mitchell Wheels 1:72 Eduard Brassin for Airfix & Hasegawa Kits For the Airfix Kit & Hasegawa Kits. This set contains the 2 main wheels and the nose wheel. They are direct replacements for the kit parts. Also included (not shown) is a full set of masks for the wheels. Airfix (672205) Hasegawa (672206) Review samples courtesy of
  7. I've noticed that Hannants carry a substantial stock of Armory accessories for aircraft kits, but as far as I can see, none whatsoever for AFV kits. The vinyl tyres provided in many AFV kits are essentially unusable, they corrode the kit plastic, thus it is essential to replace them if you intend to build the kit.....At present I'm having to import these items usually from the US and TBH I'm a bit fed up with it, it's not a cheap proposition. Is there any chance Hannants could start to stock a few of these items.....I'd be particularly interested in wheels for the ACE & ICM BTRs and also the latter's truck kits. Several modellers hereabouts would probably welcome access to their T-55 turrets (including me), TBH the list just goes on (& on & on & on). @badger, @SleeperService, @Old pro.....Feel free to back me up here.
  8. P-40 Mainwheels 1:72 CMK for Special Hobby Kit Here there are three different types of main wheel provided, Block tread, Cross tread & Diamond tread; These are just a drop in replacement for the kit wheels. The resin allows much greater detail including the tread. Conclusion These will enhance the already great little model from Special Hobby. Recommended. 9. Does anybody know from when onwards the perforated wheels were used on the Challenger 2's?
  10. T-54, T-55(Early) Wheels Set (37056) 1:35 MiniArt The Kit Arriving in usual Miniart style on multiple small sprues you get a complete set of replacement road wheels, drive sprockets and ideler wheels for your T-54 or Early T-55. These are taken from a tank kit so there are a few suspension parts also on the sprues which are not used. Moulding is excellent as you'd expect from MiniArt. This set is recomended if you need a new set of wheels for your T-54 or early 55. Review sample courtesy of
  11. One of those moments of frustration in modelling when, upon looking at ref pictures, the answer still isn't clear Did the Me262 have a particular design for its nose wheel use more than most, or where they both in use? My HobbyBoss kit supplies the option of a treaded wheel, which would nicely demonstrate weathering, or a smooth version. A few pics of captured Me262s show the latter installed, but its hard to confirm if the smooth tyres were a later installation, with the treaded being earlier models. Appreciate any help Gaz
  12. Hi all, I finished my Hurricane last night and took some photos... The WIP thread is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234993484-airfix-148-hurricane-mki/ It's the new tool Airfix kit, with Brassin exhausts and wheels. I used the kit decals for the 501 Sqn. option. 13. Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VIII Wheels 1:72 Eduard Brassin Both of these sets are for the new Eduard kit but can be used on any kit. 4 Spoke Wheels with Smooth Tyre (672146) & 4 Spoke Wheels with tread (672147) Each set of wheels comes with both main wheels, the tail wheel & leg combined and a set of mask for painting. Smooth Tyre Tread Tyre Conclusion There's nothing much wrong with Eduard's VII, but even the best kits can be improved on. Naturally Eduard themselves have provided the means to enhance their kit, and quality wheels always look good. Recommended. Review samples courtesy of
  14. Hi! I've got several of this kit in 1/24 scale. What I didn't know, was that at some point there was a change of seats and mainwheels. The tear drop kit has only the late seat and mainwheels. At what point during production did the changes take place? TIA Stein
  15. Curtiss P-40 wheel set Eduard 1:32 The Hasegawa P-40 kit has been around for quite a while, even in its last incarnation from 2013. Recently Eduard have released a number of etched sets for it, now it’s their Brassin range to have a go. This lovely looking resin set comes encased in their usual clear styrene bubble packaging, and contains the two main wheels, which come with separate inner hubs, and a single piece tailwheel. The resin moulding is well up to the standard we have come to expect from Brassin and includes the makers name and size information on the main tyre side walls, along with the very nicely moulded diamond tread pattern. All the tyres have a slight bulge to give the impression there is weight on them, but not excessively. All the wheels are only attached to the moulding plugs via a small contact point on the bulged area and a couple of webs, so shouldn’t be too hard to remove and clean up. The hubs are a little more awkward, but with care and a sharp blade or saw you should be ok. The hubs will need to have the rear sanded down to thickness so that they fit into the wheel recess correctly. The set also includes a small etched brass sheet. This contains the outer hub covers, one for each main wheel. To complete the set, and make it a lot easier to spray the completed wheels a set of mask, made of kabuki style tape has also been included. Conclusion These resin wheels, with their etched detail parts make a great addition to the completed model. There is a little bit of work to get them off the moulding blocks, but there’s nothing that a moderately competent modeller can’t handle. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  16. Hi all, Another appeal for your collective guidance. I have an SH F-86H underway. My question is about the wheels - did the H model have the same size mains as the F-Model/D-Model? I ask because the kit ones are a bit scrappy and I have both some left overs from a Hasegawa F-86D and a resin Pavla wheel set for the F-86F. I'd value your thoughts. Thanks. Martin
  17. Bell P-39Q/N wheel set Eduard 1:32 The Kittyhawk P-39/N, reviewed HERE has had quite a lot of etch released for it, reviewed HERE from Eduard, now it’s their Brassin range to have a go. This lovely looking resin set comes encased in their usual clear styrene bubble packaging, and contains the two main wheels, which come with separate inner hubs, and a single piece nosewheel, although the review set appears to have come with two nose wheels. The resin moulding is well up to the standard we have come to expect from Brassin and includes the makers name and size information on the main tyre side walls. This contains the outer hub covers, one for each main wheel and two for the nose wheel, which is also fitted with three spacers per side, onto which the covers attach. To complete the set, and make it a lot easier to spray the completed wheels a set of mask, made of kabuki style tape has also been included. Conclusion These resin wheels, with their etched detail parts make a great addition to the completed model. There is a little bit of work ti get them off the moulding blocks, but there’s nothing that a moderately competent modeller can’t handle. Highly recommended. Review sample courtesy of
  18. Fw 190A Wheel (Early) - For Eduard Kit 1:72 Eduard This is a pair of early wheels for the Fw 190, a straight replacement for the kit parts.
  19. P-39 Wheels Early & Late - For Eduard Kit 1:48 Eduard These sets are intended for Eduard's own kit in 1.48. Both sets contain a nose wheel, two main wheels with separate hubs, and a small fret of Photo etch. Also included is a set of painting masks. Early Wheels Late Wheels Conclusion These will no doubt enhance your P-39/P-400 model. Overall recommended. Review samples courtesy of
  20. Following a discussion on another board about the main wheels on the Sukhoi Flanker, I've put together a page of photos I have taken over the years showing the differences.... The first generation with a central cooling hole looks like this...... The second generation with multiple holes and 3 sets of retaining bolts looks like this..... The very latest third generation wheels with 4 sets of bolts look like this.... Note that the labels First Second and Third generation are purely my invention to differentiate the 3 types. More photos of each type here - (scroll down past the fins). Happy Flankering and Happy New Year Ken
  21. F-86F wheels 1:48 Eduard Bassin There are some good F-86 kits on the market but the wheels can be a bit on the soft on the details. These new wheels from Eduard rectify this with some nice crisp details. The main wheels come with separate hubs. There is a choice of early or late hubs for the nose wheel. Review sample courtesy of
  22. Focke Wulf 190 Wheels and Main Undercarriage 1:32 Brassin As good as the wheels and undercarriage are on the new Revell 1:32 Fw-190F8 the seams on the tyres will take some careful sanding to completely remove them and thus probably a lot of detail. These new wheels come in the standard blister pack with two layers of foam protecting them. On opening the quality of parts really stands out. The tyres, with very finely engraved treads, the mains with radial treads along with the tailwheel which whilst having no tread the hubs are beautifully moulded with a more natural look than the kit parts and come complete with the manufacturers name on the sidewalls. Clean up of the wheels should be quick and easy as the webs holding them to the moulding blocks are very thin. Any excess left after removal will only require a quick swipe of a sanding stick to tidy up. Also included in the set are the inner hubs, with nicely rendered brake details and attachment holes that match the kit axles. The outer hubs have a finesse and depth to them that would be impossible to do in injection moulding. The hubs are on quite large moulding blocks for their size, but since they are on the rear of each item it’s just a matter of razor sawing them off and flattening them with a sanding stick. To complete the set Eduard have included a sheet of masks to aid painting. Meanwhile, the second set of parts, in a similar blister pack, contains a pair of replacement resin undercarriage doors which have a much better scale thickness as well as extra detail, the thin webs holding them to the casting blocks shouldn’t cause too much of a problem to clean up. The best bits about this set are the superbly produced bronze undercarriage legs. The casting is superb and appears to include all the brackets and clamps seen on the real items. All that is need is the addition of some brake hoses to complete the look. It’s just a shame that they have to be painted as the look really good as is. Conclusion The new Revell kit is a feast of detail in its own right, but the addition of these simple parts will not only aid the look of the undercarriage, without too much effort in cleaning any seams, but will also give increased strength to the undercarriage thus preventing them legs to spread and distort. Highly recommended Review sample courtesy of
  23. I have a question regarding the colour of Blenheim wheel hubs. I ask because most of the painting references I have (Airfix, various aftermarket decal sheets) are 'silent' in this matter. The Airfix kit provides guidance for a single flat black/coal black shade. For many of the original Mk.I aircraft with the black underside this makes sense to me. As we know, Blenheims of other persuasions and colour schemes (Sky Blue, etc. under surfaces) exist and are covered pretty well by the range of decal sheets that have been released in recent times. I am wondering if the wheel hubs where ever matched to the under surface colour of the factory/service-prepared aircraft. Or were they predominantly black, including spare wheels ? Any assistance would be gratefully accepted.
  24. I'm looking to convert one of my Airfix Valiants to a B.2, and I was wondering whether anyone had any details of the undercarriage? Any drawings or pictures, particularly of the main wheels would be gratefully received. Thanks for looking. XVTonker
  25. Just picked up Revell Monograms rather nice 69 Charger. The 'stock' wheels are a bit underwhelming so I'd like to replace them. Is there a good source for Aftermarket 1/25 muscle car wheels and tyres. I want some of these really http://www.americanracingwheelsinfo.com/American_Racing_Vector_SE.htm They are the wheels fitted to the General Lee but they suit the Charger well. Cheers for any help Chris
