New photo`s with corrected wing guns, thanks Jean. Hi everyone, Just finished my first attempt at Eduards 1/48 A6M2, so thought it only fair to share some photo`s with you 🙂 Built from their dual-combo boxing, hence first attempt Completed to represent and aircraft based at Buin, Bougainville Island around 1943 Built OOB and only added brake pipes, ignition harness and antenna wire, Even managed to use 80% of the photo etch bits too 🙂 Had to attempt the camouflage scheme on this one as trying to add more varied schemes to the collection among the grey and dark green ones ...... .....just hoping I pulled it off ok Hope you like the pic`s... ...and thanks for looking, cheers Russ -
Hi everyone, Finished this one just after the Invader, so thought I`d subject you to some photo`s My latest attempt at Academy`s 1/48 P-47N kit Finished to represent a Very Long Range Thunderbolt to go with my VLR Mustang I did a bit ago As usual, mostly from the box contents with a few embellishments here and there. The biggest one was to make the front of the engine more like a P-47N one....... .......so I chopped the front off the Academy engine and cobbled a new one together from bits and pieces from the spares box, stretched sprue etc smaller changes include: reshaping the propeller blades, replace gun barrels with metal tube, brake pipes, ignition harness and tank braces from wire The decals came from Super Scale International sheet 48-956 and went on beautifully Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy A while back, I was reading ( looking at the pictures ) in Osprey`s Tomahawk and Kittyhawk Aces book when I noticed something unusual about a picture of a P-40 on page 81....... The camouflage colours seemed to be reversed ie the dark colour was where the light colour should have been. ( Desert scheme ?? ) So after spending several hours on Google came up with nothing definite, so posted on BM to see if anyone else knew anything Luckily for me, Allan Willoughby and Robert Hagger, posted me some information and interesting photo`s of Kittyhawks in a Grey and Green scheme. ( thanks very much to you both ) So I thought I`d give it ago and managed to get hold of a Mauve 1/48 P-40M/Kittyhawk III kit. Did a bit of work to suggest a `K` version and some improvements to the kit along the way: filled the perforated plates behind the spinner, butchered the kit seat to look like a p-40 one and added the mounting frame from wire, seat belts, added the missing lower part of the instrument panel, corrected the scissor links on the U/C legs, brake pipes and added tie down loops,......... ......gun barrels from metal tube, fuel dump pipe and that little spikey thing they have midway down the underside the fuselage, anti collision light, pylon for drop tank and that little plate on the fin leading edge where the aerial wire attatches. Decals from Italeri kit, a Ventura sheet and the stash Apparently Geoff Fisken flew this aircraft on occasion instead of the Wairarapa Wildcat and gained 3 kills in it ( according to the book ) Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Hope I haven`t bored you 🙂, cheers Russ

Howdy All, Me again, come to bother you all with some photo`s of my recently completed Tenzan ( Jill ) My second attempt at Hasegawa`s 1/48 kit, from the `with folded wings boxing` Built as usual 99.9% OOB With just aerial wires, brake pipes and some seat belts added I realise the flaps and underside gun position probably wouldn`t have been deployed on the ground but I like them....... ....so just pretend it`s having some last minute maintenance 🙂 The paint guide suggested that the undersides of Jill`s later in the war were painted silver, so I went with that.... and mixed the Metallic Blue for the wheel wells and wing folds from odd paints until it looked close enough Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Me again, come to bother you with some photo`s of my recently completed Grumman Duck 🙂 Built from Merit International`s 1/48 kit Finished to represent an aircraft based at Florida Island in the Pacific 1943 Based on a couple of photo`s found in Steve Ginters Naval Fighters book No surprises, built almost OOB as usual but with a few tweaks.......... ........opened back part of canopy and bodged together a rear gun and seat, added a few instrument panels and missing details to cockpit..... Attempted to correct the windscreen by sanding off the frames, reshaping a bit and adding the centre frame, looks OK if you squint Decals cobbled together from the stash and rigging done with painted copper wire from a flex Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone, thought I`d subject you to some photo`s of my latest effort My latest go at AMT/Ertl`s 1/48th, A-20g kit Built almost completely from the box contents Small improvements include: ignition harness, covers over the shell ejector chutes under the nose ( which I noticed looking at various pic`s of Pacific A-20s )........ .......crew step ladder under port wing root, pitot on fin, antenna wires and seat belts. Also replaced all gun barrels with aluminium tube. Decals were from the kit and silvered horrendously, so don`t use Micro Set and Sol on yours if you`ve got one....... ......I normally use Klear/Future on them, why I chose to be different this time, I just don`t know? 🙄 Anyway, hope you enjoy the pic`s Thanks for looking Cheers Russ

HI Everyone, Finished this one about the same time as the VLR Mustang so thought I`d share some photo`s My latest go at Eduard`s 1/48 Airacobra kit Built from the latest Weekend Edition boxing Finished as `PAT-RIOT II` of the 46th FS, 15th FG, 7th AF Built from the kit contents but with a few small additions and tweaks Namely: brake pipes, splitter plate in the dorsal intake, some wiring for the radio in the rear cockpit and aerial wires Also drilled out all the gun barrels and exhaust pipes Decals were from the kit Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Thought I`d put some sunny photo`s up to counter the rain and coincidently show you my latest completion which kills two birds with one stone🙂 My attempt at Eduards 1/48 VLR Mustang from the `Tales from Iwojima` boxing Built almost completely OOB ,I did leave some bits of PE out and some pinged off into the carpet monster ( which is weird, as there isn`t a carpet in the kitchen ? ) Had a hard time choosing from the many colourful options provided and in the end just went for the first one in the instruction booklet. So in the markings of `Annie Lee` which was flown by Lt Col John W Mitchell who has fame by leading the mission against Yamamoto, April.... 1943 which resulted in his demise. Only thing I had to add was some wire brake pipes Suppose now I`ll have to pick up some weekend editions so I can make a few of the others on the decal sheet🙂 Hope you enjoy the sunny pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy All, Thought you wouldn`t mind me showing some photo`s of my latest effort, hot off the kitchen table My second attempt at HobbyBoss`s 1/48 Avenger kit Completed to represent a New Zealand Air Force TBF-1C Built almost completely from the box contents, only additions being brake pipes, seat belts and radio antenna wire The previous HB kit I did with the wings folded and I expected a bit of hassle doing them open but in the end it was no trouble at all Decals came from Ventura Decals set V48101 and I was torn between this and the Donald Duck option....... ........but in the end opted for the indigenous artwork Paints were Xtracolour enamels and my first attempt at brushing a feathered edge with them just hoping it looks OK to your discerning eyes😬 Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy everyone, Thought you wouldn`t mind if I showed you some pic`s of my latest effort Tamiya`s 1/48 F4U-1A kit which I`ve attempted to finish as a Royal Navy Corsair II ( Third attempt actually ) In the markings of 757 NAS from HMS Unicorn June 1944 Mostly from the box as usual with a few changes and details The obvious change is clipping the wing tips and this time I remembered to add the small air scoops midway down the fuselage side Additions include: ignition harness, brake pipes and aerial wires Decals are from Xtradecals sheet X48103 Yanks in Roundels Pt 2 I don`t know the story behind the partly peeled roundel but thought it added a bit of extra interest Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, me again come to bother you with some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at Hasegawa`s 1/48 `Dave` kit Finished in the markings of an aircraft attached to `Seaplane Tender Kamoi` 1938. But shown here, ashore for maintenance🙂 Built mostly from the box contents but with a few additions cobbled together......... ....as I`m to tight to buy the accessory kit to go with it. So had to make a rudder for the main float, cleat at the end of the fuselage underside and seat belts Rigging is a mix of invisible mending thread coloured using a black marker, paper soaked in PVA glue and bits of wire and rear gun sights from wire too Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone, just thought I`d bother you with some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at Great Wall Hobby`s 1/48 Devastator kit Built from their `Wake Island` boxing Finished in the markings of VT-6 aboard the USS Enterprise, of Wake Island, Feb 1942. Built as usual mostly from the box with a few photo etched item replaced with less troublesome ( for me 🙂 ) materials Such as: ignition harness for the engine ,the triangular fillets around the wingfold and the pronged pitot tube. Was going to open the canopy up but the individual items provided in the kit are too thick to allow you to, so I sawed the end off the one piece part and had just the pilots part opened. Decals were the kits and went over the corrugations on the wings fine using boiling water Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy all, Just come to bother you with some photo`s of my latest completion My attempt at Special Hobby`s 1/48 MkIII Seafire kit Finished in the markings of an aircraft, probably 887 Sq, aboard HMS Indefatigable with the British Pacific Fleet Inspired by a photo I found on `Armoured Carriers` website, which when I saw the asymetrical markings on the wing, couldn`t resist attempting The kit is built straight OOB and went together quite well, I had a lot less trouble than I did with their Spitfire VC Just getting the cockpit to sit straight in the fuselage gave me any trouble Decals are some of the kits and some from the stash Many thanks to: 112 Squadron@ , Seahawk@ , Graham Boak@ , iang@ and Peter Roberts@ for their help and suggestions on my post in Discussion by Era WWII. Hi everyone, Thought you wouldn`t mind me bothering you with some photo`s of my latest effort My attempt at Tamiya`s 1/48 Ki-61 Tony Not a lot to say, straight forward build OOB apart from decals, with brake pipes and aerial wires added Decals from Rising Decals set RD48027, which has some great schemes but the ones that caught my eye were for the short nosed version Doh! Howdy Everyone, Just finished my latest effort, My attempt at Great Wall Hobbies 1/48 Black Widow, built from the `Last Shootdown` boxing This was intended to by my Halloween post but it over ran a bit Mostly from the box but with a few items replaced due to breakages ( why do they mould tiny aerials to the main parts? )..... and parts like the engine harness which I decided weren`t worth wrestling with esp` as you can barely see them. So: engine harness, `T` shaped aerials, pitot, fuselage side antenna all replaced with wire and plastic card Mainly filler free build except for the windscreen which had a huge step. Main U/C doors req`d modification to an early `B` configuration, which wasn`t too hard. No weapons or drop tanks so these came from the spares box Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone, Finished this one last week, so thought I`d bother you with some pic`s 🙂 My attempt at Special Hobby`s 1/48 Wirraway kit I`d recently been re-reading Mark Johnstones book ` Whispering Death ` which gave me the inspiration to add one to the collection...... .....although not entirely successful as a fighter or dive bomber, they excelled at artillery spotting, search and rescue and forward air control type missions Built almost completely from the box contents with only: Brake pipes, engine pushrods and ignition harness, trim tab actuators on the elevators and aerial wires added. Managed to crack the canopy cutting the bit off the end and repaired with a piece of T-6 or Harvard canopy ( I think ) from the spares box I was a bit apprehensive of the kit after building SH`s Boomerang but this is a far more civilised experience Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy all, Just finished my latest BPF subject to replace my yellowing earlier attempt I did a long time ago. Built from Hobby Boss`s 1/48 Avenger MK I kit, that you can`t actually build a Mk I from Finished as a MK II of 849 NAS, HMS Victorious, British Pacific Fleet, 1945 Built mainly from the box contents with a very few alterations and additions, including: ....cutting off the protruding gun barrels, adding some brake pipes and extra aerials and antenna. managed to dig some Yagi aerials and bubble observers/gunners rear windows from the spares box ( they`re a little bit big, but better than not 🤔 ) Decals came from Xtra Decals `Yanks in Roundels` sheet X48-104 that I`d had waiting round for years to put on something Finally added some detail to the wing fold, as disappointingly there`s none on the kit parts, with bits of wire and speaker cable Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Howdy Everyone, Finally managed to finish this one after a bit of a Boo-Boo on my part My latest attempt at Eduards 1/48 Airacobra kit Built from their New Guinea Dual-Combo boxing but with some different markings to the ones in the box I`d already done `Papuan Panic` a while ago but just couldn`t get inspired by the other options and this one is actually on the front page of the booklet provided but not on the sheet... Luckily I`d got an old sheet with it on and used those instead. The marking represent a P-39K, flown by Lt William McDonough, 40th FS/35th FG, based at Nadzab, New Guinea, 1943 Mostly from the box, drilled the exhausts out and had to cut the doors out as the super glue I used managed to severely fog the canopy and door windows. Meaning refitting the doors and much tidying up afterwards. Hope you enjoy the pic``s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, here`s my first ( and most recent) completion from my haul from the Hinckley Show in March. Tamiyas 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter VI completed as an Australian built Mk21 Representing an aircraft of No 93 Sqn RAAF known as the `Green Ghosts` Apart from the decals all the parts were in the box, only extra work was deletion of two wing guns, some antenna, seat belts and a small fillet ahead of the observers station the decals were from an old Eagle Strike set also I thought I`d show you an earlier build This time a Mk X, actually done from the TFX boxing Done as an SEAC aircraft of no particular airframe or squadron but inspired from a pic` of a 22 Sqn, RAF aircraft Markings from the spares stash and the kit decals Only real work done was deleting the guns and ejector shutes and fixing a camera housing to the nose Hope you enjoy them both.

Howdy everyone, hope you don`t mind me showing some pic`s of my latest completion Attempt number two at Special Hobby`s 1/48 Firefly kit Finished to represent a Firefly Mk I of 1771 Squadron, British Pacific Fleet Flown from HMS Implacable towards the end of WWII As usual built mostly from the box... only additions being an etched set of seatbelts I found in the spares box, rear view mirror and aerial wires Decals are the kits too The carrier base is an Eduard item Hope you enjoy the photo`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi everyone, Thought I`d bother you with some photo`s of my latest completion My attempt at Tamiya`s 1/48 early George kit Finished in the markings of 341st Naval Fighter Group of the 402nd Fighter Squadron As usual, done almost completely OOB with just a few improvements here and there, including............ seat belts, engine harness, drilled the lightening holes out in the seat and opened up the gun barrels Decals are the kits and I resisted the temptation to go really overboard with the weathering as I figured....... ...they must have looked somewhere between brand new and wrecked at some point in their lives. Howdy Everyone, Just finished my attempt at building my second Dutch B-25 Strafer from Monogram`s 1/48 B-25J kit Finished in the markings of `Lienke` of the ML-KNIL/RNIEAAF, No 18 Squadron, Based at Batchelor Field, Australia, 1944-45...... ... to complement my earlier B-25C I built a little while ago. Incorporated a few modification to the kit, the main one being that Dutch `J`s only had two nose guns as opposed to the four guns fitted to US examples....... ......to make room for a bomb sight I believe. The only other mod`s were the position of the nose venturii, seat armour and an extra aerial. Added ignition harness, brake pipes and aerial wires. Decals are a mix of: Dutch Decals sheet DD48056, Flevo Decals sheet FV48002 and the kits Noticed from photo`s these were very weathered with lots of areas where the previous owners markings were painted out This was Lt Hagers second `Lienke` the first was a B-25D. Howdy everyone, Managed to finish this one before I start back work in a day or so, so I thought I`d show some pic`s Hasegawa`s 1/48 Warhawk kit finished to represent `Cleopatra`, an aircraft flown by Flg Off Geoff Atherton, 75 Sqn, Mine Bay, New Guinea, 1942 Copied from Osprey`s `Tomahawk and Kittyhawk Aces of the RAF and Commonwealth` book Got `some` of the decals from Italeri`s latest reissue of AMT`s P-40E kit....... ......which I bought to make a `K` version from. Unfortunately the more pictures I found of the aircraft the more differences I found with the kits instructions and decals. So I had to raid the stash for quite a few to get as near to photo`s as I could. The red dots on the underside roundels are as the photo`s Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking Cheers Russ

Hi Everyone, Just finished my latest `49er` P-40 Warhawk ( I`ve got a thing about Warhawks 🙄 ) Built from Hasegawas 1/48 P-40N kit and finished to represent an aircraft of the 49th Fighter Group, New Guinea,South West Pacific Theatre in 1943-44 Wanted to do this one for a while as it had nose art on both sides of the nose which was a fairly common practice in the 49th Built mostly from the box contents..... with the usual additions of brake pipes and dodgy home made seatbelts The decals came from SuperScale set MS48-903 I`ve only seen b/w photo`s of the plane with port side looking like the nose trim was painted black and the starboard looking a lot lighter so the red is a best guess... and matches the red on the nose art. Howdy Everyone, Just finished my attempt at Special Hobbies 1/48 Spitfire Vc kit from the RAAF Service boxing Finished to represent a Vc flown by Sqn Ldr Eric Gibbs, No1 Fighter Wing, 54 Sqn, RAF, Winnellie, Northern Territory, Australia, 1943 Actually built 100% OOB for a change Although I nearly made the mistake of adding aerial wire to the mast...... ...luckily I found out they didn`t have them just in time. Probably the easiest SH kit I`ve built to date with only the wing roots needing some attention ( chop loads of material off the bottom of the fuselage side walls and sand the top of the u/c bays) The only other issue being which option to do 😊 Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking Cheers Russ
