I've never posted a build thread on a forum before because I've never felt too confident that my models and skills were up to a level that others would be interested in seeing. Lately though, aside from the usual showpiece works that everyone drools over, I've seen a few "average guy" builds that just made me want to build more, despite not having the skills that would put my aircraft into a magazine. So here I am, trying this for the first time... hopefully I'll remember to snap pics along the way. Plus, having a thread to keep posting to may keep me inspired and prevent me from slacking off for weeks/months at a time. (Bad summer habit.) Like the title says, I'm doing a Victor tanker. I'm still a ways away from starting the actual build. I'm working on finishing a MiG-29 (just needs paint, decals, and final assembly) but I'm starting this thread as I prep for the Victor. Here's the ubiquitous box shot: As much as I love the look of the Hemp color scheme (and the pinup nose art!!) I've more or less decided to go with the Black Buck tanker instead. I still reserve the right to change my mind at some point in the build before it's too late. Pics like this or this have definite shelf-appeal. I "started" the project by making a chart for paint conversions based in the specified Humbrol colors vs what I already have or can get. Humbrol is not readily available around me... the hobby shops I frequent generally carry Tamiya, Vallejo, and lately AK. I've started using AK on my last couple of builds and am really enjoying how it goes through my airbrush, how it goes down on the surface of the model, etc. They even make an RAF V bomber box set.

I finished this model a few weeks ago but haven't gotten around to posting it here yet. You may have already seen it as I have posted it elsewhere on the internet and Airfix reposted it to their social media pages. It's my third 1:72 Airfix Victor, this one is done as XL231 of 55 Sqn. These really are some huge models, the Victor being the largest V Bomber by a small margin. The B2 variant's 1/72 scale wingspan is 55cm, and the K2 was reduced by 3ft (~1.3cm in 1/72). I just need a camouflaged 1/72 Victor or two to go with these now (a K2 in camo with low viz roundels sounds good and I'd also like an SR2 in camo- all SR2s were). It's not my favourite or best Victor build, that would have to be my late-early B.Mk.2 XM718 (the last Victor produced in its early configuration as a freefall bomber, which needed a little resin to do), but I'm more than happy with the model. I did keep a WIP thread going for most of the build but just forgot to update it at all once I started on the decals

It’s been a very arid year for model making, not really had a chance to get time at the bench since July. So I have a couple of kits unfinished, but I’ve been eyeing this kit for awhile and decided it might be what I need to get me going again. First thoughts - that’s a lot of plastic, somewhat harder than the usual Airfix fare. Busy decal sheet. I’ll be building this one: I was itching to get on with it - but then a delay. Nasty little heat wave here in Perth, WA - 4 days of 40 degrees. Managed to get to cutting plastic yesterday morning. Straight to work on the cockpit, and here is where I am at after 24 hours. Shame it’s going to be pretty much invisible, rather pleased with how that has come out.

My Victor K2 is nearly ready for paint. I'm going for a world weary Gulf War scheme and want to know where all the dirt should be. Unfortunately most of my reference pictures are of clean examples. Anyone got any filth?
