  1. I tested positive last Friday, 6 days before I was due to get married to my partner of 17 years. To say I was fed up was an understatement! Wednesday just gone, my partner tested positive too, so a good job our small wedding was postponed. Anyway, decided to put my Italeri M4A1 (76mm) on hold and make a start on this classic Tamiya M3 Grant with Verlinden M3 CDL conversion. I have had the conversion for years and some work has been done to it, mainly clean up etc. The Canal Defence Light tanks were used by the 79th Armoured Division to facilitate the night crossings of the Rivers Elbe and Rhine by Allied forces. So far I have assembled the lower hull and used spokes wheels from the Tamiya M4 kit and 2 from the M4A3 kit as the Grant kit wheels have incorrect amount of spokes. I have also applied Mr Surfacer to the final drive assembly. I will also be using the tracks from the Tamiya M4 kits as they are the same length as the incorrect Grant tracks. Progress so far.
  2. 1/9 scale Verlinden bust of an SS Sturmann during the Ardennes offensive of 1944. This is an old model I completed about 15 years ago and remains the only military bust I've done to date. It had been packed away in the loft when we moved house and I only just came across it again recently. He has been painted in a mix of artists oils and enamels.
  3. This 120mm figure by Verlinden will be my second entry. There are a few more parts to this one but it looks to be a fairly simple parts breakdown of figure and equipment. It has been a long time since I painted a large scale figure so hopefully this should be a good refresher before I go on to tackle something else. by John L, on Flickr by John L, on Flickr
  4. Perhaps I’m posting in the wrong spot - please move me along if this stuff belongs in the armour section, but I’ve always been very fond of these little support vehicles, and the collection’s filling up nicely. The NC-8A was built for a Miramar A-4 Mongoose diorama, the lovely little Tamiya Moto tug will go with a Late Corsair one day. The aftermarket companies are making some cracking accessories these days, the ALBAR is from Brengun and the chocks are Wheeliant iirc, amazing detail, the chocks actually slide along the bar and the ALBAR is articulated too. The Velinden vehicles are pretty hard to find these days, but they’re great little kits (save the diabolical dry transfers! Peddinghaus has been making proper water decals for the kits, although I haven’t tried them) I thought I’d long lost the two MD-3As I’d made and painted in the early 90’s (and was keeping an eye on eBay) until clearing out my son’s room (too old for Lego now, apparently) - Lo and behold a tiny camo box! I stripped them back using IPA, a few repairs and embellishments were added- tyres were built back up, new handbrakes and tie down loops made, etc. So here’s where I’m at right now, all a bit garish but it will all tone down with an oil filter all being well. The Huffer hose was shrink tubing and Tamiya wire, the Anti-Skid texture was a SprayMount undercoat, can held miles away for some nice big globs. It looks the nuts, but it’s not very durable, perhaps someone here has a better alternative? Never one to finish a project, I’ve been ‘catching up’ this offering from Kinetic - successor to the MD-3A, an AS3.....a White One. It’s ok as a starting point but needed a bit of scribing and a few other mods (new widened seat cushions, tie down loops, fuel filler etc) to get it up to the standard of the Verlinden tractors. That’s it for now. Part of me wanted to keep the 30-year old hairy stick finish I suppose, it wasn’t that shoddy really (considering what I was doing in the 90’s). The other part of me has an iwata and a Fightertown decal sheet. No contest 😁
  5. Just finished, Academy M18 Hellcat... Bought as soon as it came out in 1997, started almost as soon as I got it home, finished this morning !! Used about 30% of the Verlinden kit-specific detail set including some 'old skool' etched brass (yes BRASS), resin stowage etc, other stowage from various Tamiya and Academy sets, .50cal is from the old Tamiya US Weapons set. Most of the decals are from the spares box. Really enjoying my AFV modelling at the moment, so much so that I'm even going to try something that isn't Olive Drab in the very near future !! - As ever thanks for taking the time to look and/or comment please feel free to make any comments, criticisms or ask any questions. Stay tuned. Ian.
  6. 1/35 AFV Club M35a1 Vietnam Gun Truck with Bravo 6 and Verlinden figures along with an awful lot of paint brush bristles. Thanks for looking Si
  7. Hi all, This is the Verlinden kit 1494 that I completed a little while ago and have only just recently photographed. An all resin kit that contains the pre-formed base, five figures and the mortar that is a very fiddly kit but is very detailed too. The dead soldier (RIP) is moulded into the base but the other 4 are all in bits and, this being a typical Verlinden kit, there are no instructions and very few pictures to work from so I had to spend time matching arms with heads with their body but this is an excellent kit. The base is rich in detail and I added a few extra details in the weapons lying around, the peeling wallpaper, propoganda poster, the wiring for the radio and some grass here and there growing through the rubble. A thoroughlly enjoyable build. Hope you like it, thanks for looking and comments always welcome. Regards, Lee
  8. Hi all, Saving my last for first as this is my first posting on the site of the last project I completed just before Christmass (I hope it comes through ok). This is the Tamiya 1/35 LRDG/SAS Willys Jeep with upgrade kits from Eduard and Black Dog. The figures are from Verlinden and the diorama setting is scratch built. Thanks for looking. 9. Hi all, Here's my take on the very nice Revell 1/32 kit of this big ugly beast. It's actually a very good kit, the best large scale Revell kit I've ever made. Which is high praise indeed! I used the Flightpath detail set, Verlinden equipment bays and 30mm cannon, and scratch built loads of extra details. I received the kit for free, part built and without any instructions or decals. I got the instructions off the internet and made decals using my home computer. The subject is the flight leader's aircraft from A Company, 1st Battalion, 101st Aviation Regiment. The group was assigned as part of Task Force Normandy, which fired the first shot of Operation Desert Storm in the early hours of 17 January 1991. The mission was at the extreme range of the Apache, and each carried a long-range fuel tank which varies the loadout a bit. All following photos thanks very much to Chris Bradley of IPMS Farnborough. Cheers for looking 🙂
  10. Not many pics as I want to complete this one as soon as I can....bit of a deadline. Straps from metal foil from wine bottles, clips cut from plastic card. Buckles are etched metal from the Verlinden detail set, as is the resin seat.
  11. Finally completed and with some (I hope) decent pictures. A very basic WIP here. Comments welcome. Cheers
  12. This project has been ongoing for about three years and is only visited between other builds for a bit of something different. That said, I am determined to complete it this year so that I can then make a start on the French drummer that I have. It is only the second 120mm figure that I have painted, so my flesh tones need a lot of improvement. The figure also needs a matt finish applied to the uniform and the ancillary parts adding. I have sprayed the top of the base black to hopefully help with shadows, I don't know if this is the usual way but that is the way I have gone. The lower part has white primer on so in preparation for a wood effect. Anyway this is my progress to date Close-up of Pelisse (rear) Thanks for looking, I hope to post more progress soon.
  13. First time for a figure this big, I bought it on a good deal , so it's a sort of test bench, especially for the eyes area and flesh tones. This is where I am so far (apologies for the poor quality of the pictures, they've been taken using a phone camera): Please feel free to comment. Cheers GM
