Howdy everyone, So I have reach a road block with the Gundam - I am waiting for a delivery of paint and placard to continue. So I thought I would start this double-ish build. I am a massive fan of Macross (not that robotech rubbish - what an abomination) and have been since the 80's/90's when I was shown a video by a chap down in the street. Fast forward a decade or more and I see Macross Plus, one of my fav films. But right at the start there is a VF-11 fighting some forces. I loved the design of that craft and I have an VF-11 Super Thunderbolt in the stash somewhere for a later date. However one of my holy grail kits has always been the VE-11 Thunderseeker, I even tried to find it in Japan by going to every Book-Off or model shop I could find with no luck on both trips. I was however able to get the kit from Buyee, a service I will loose so much money to now. Anyhow the Thunderseeker is below. I have always liked the idea of smaller craft being used in the AWACs role. However the first issue I have with this particular kit is that it is a single seater, which I know these craft have powerful AI on them, but it still seems a stretch for a single pilot to be flying it. Also the gun, it just seems wrong to me that an AWACs craft would have a gun. Which is no biggie, I can use the gun for a Tomcat build I have planned. So going from that, the gun will just be omitted and I will need to at least make this a dual seater, so off to Buyee I went to get an VF-11D kit. Sometimes if you get one of the more funky kits you can get different cockpit parts but that hasn't been the case thus far. So a very cheeky bid and 2 weeks later, one of these landed on my door. As far as I am aware this is from a serialised series in one of the many many modelling magazines they have in Japan. Anyhow I am not too fussed on the actual subject of this kit. So I will steal the front half of the craft to make my two seater VE-11, turning it into a VE-11D. Also what interested me the most was the the item where the gun pod should be, as I understand it that is a camera pod as this is a filming craft. I thought I could add that to the VF-11D and say it is some EW/C3 kinda kit. Result! I was also toying with the idea of putting some ALQ-99 pods under the wings, not sure yet. Not sure if that is going too far, but apparently no one makes ALQ-99's in 1/72 as a resin upgrade - weird huh? Below is the parts for each kit. The white ones are for the VF-11D and the gray plastic is for VE-11. The VE-11E has been started that is why it is open and some parts are missing. So I did start this kit when I first though that the idea of a single seat AWACs wasn't too bad, but it really really bugged me so I stopped and ordered the VF-11D. All I have done really is put the wings together and painted the cockpit. I will be below the usual 25% complete for both kits. This is the kit of the VE-11 as is from the box. What I am going to do is start the other kit and put the cockpit for this kit into the VF-11D and put the cockpit of the VF-11D into this one. The reason I am doing this is there are certain things that are special to the VE-11 and VF-11D kits. All will become clearer when I continue building. Onto the fun and games! Kind regards, Dazz
