  1. I felt it high time I got on and had a go at building these 2 lovely kits from Pegasus Hobbies; the Triceratops cow and Tyrannosaurus Rex posed stood pinning down a slain Triceratops calf. The kits are complimentary to one another and are ideally suited to be built together or just as single display pieces. Cast in 100% solid vinyl plastic, both kits are very weighty and substantial. A lot of hot water treatment and dremeling was undertaken to get the various pieces fitted. Even after a lot of joint head shaving and heat treatments, the fits were so tight that virtually no glue was needed but I used long arm clamps overnight to keep constant pressure to the joint surfaces. Minimal filler was required at the time of assembly but I admit now to having to add a fair bit of Mr Surfacer 500 on top of the joint seam lines. You get a lot of dinosaur for your money from Pegasus and old Rexy is about 2 foot long when it's tail is inserted. I hope these kits give me as much pleasure as the Pegasus Hobbies Great White Shark did which I have just completed and is up on the forum elsewhere. 2. Hi Figure collectors I decided to make a post of this as these models command very high prices and I for one would have really appreciated knowing what was in the box before buying these very old and highly collectable kits. The Kaiyodo Dinoland series offered 2 different posed Tyrannosaurus models in a 1/20 scale. They date back to 1990 and 1991 prior to the Stan Winston Jurassic Park work. Both of these kits are very good quality and offer a good alternative to what is now deemed the standard look of a T-Rex. The kits are cast in vinyl and were both sculpted by the same modeller - Shinobu Matsumura. They are Japanese and very well cast. Given their age, both the kits I have, have survived the years well and show no sign of deformation, shrinkage or sinking. I know this post/topic will not be of interest to many, however I have made a point of uploading it as sometime in the future, collectors will want to know what the difference between these 2 kits are before possibly having to spend upto $300 USD on either kit as I have. For ease of reference I am going to separate these 2 kits as: 1990 Kit - Pose A - Striding T-Rex Bull (lighter cast kit) 1991 Kit - Pose B - Standing T-Rex Calling Female. Although cast in the same scale and overlooking the differences in their postures, there are major differences in the overall body build and textures of the models which could easily makes these either Male or Female. In case the pictures get confusing below, the 1990 Striding pose is the lighter cast kit which in my opinion is better value and has more parts - albeit a fairly Spartan model. On the left - 1990 Kit - Pose A - Striding T-Rex Bull (lighter cast kit) Looking down on the top of the Rex's backs - On the left - 1990 Kit - Pose A - Striding T-Rex Bull (lighter cast kit) Looking up the underside of their bellies - On the left - 1990 Kit - Pose A - Striding T-Rex Bull (lighter cast kit) Their heads - the top piece is the 1990 Striding posed kit - are those feathers on the neck?? The 1991 Standing pose on the left below now 1990 Pose A Head 1991 Pose B Head 1991 Pose B on the left below 1990 Pose A on the top The 1991 Pose B - Standing Kit box contents - minus the front limbs The 1990 Pose A - Striding Kit box contents - minus front limbs and hind leg claws 1990 Kit Pose A on the left 1990 Pose A at the top - Tails 1990 Pose A - Hind leg claws 1990 Pose A - front limbs on the left - this is where some of the major differences between the 2 same scaled kits are easily noticeable. So there you go and like I said to begin with, this post of for long term archive reference and is hoped to help future investors in these kits sometime in the future before they go shelling out tons of money on the wrong model.
  3. I've just started building 3 of Tamiya's dinosaurs - T-Rex, Triceratops and my personal favourite dinosaur the Stegosaurus. The following photographs are mostly of the T-Rex head, as apart from gluing, a little filling and some very elementary painting there's not much to show on the others. The T-Rex is definitely not up to the standard of the Pegasus 1/24 (see the build at http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234996931-pegasus-hobbies-124-t-rex-and-juvenile-trike/#entry2280266). The inside of the head is very flat: P1010010 by Stephen North, on Flickr So I added some Milliput to roughen up the roof and back of the mouth: P1010011 by Stephen North, on Flickr Gloss white as a basis for the teeth: P1010015 by Stephen North, on Flickr Inside of the head with the teeth overbrushed with Citadel Steel Legion Drab, then Citadel Zandri Dust to give the impression of plaque/rotten teeth; back of mouth and the visible back of the head done in Revell matt black (#8). Inside of the gape (and after this photo was taken the whole inside of the mouth) was done in Vallejo 020 (sunny skin tone): P1010019 by Stephen North, on Flickr
