Hi all, Welcome to Outpost 41, you probably won't enjoy your visit but it'll all be over soon (click for bigger/more pictures) I've been painting space monsters since Games Workshop released a new version of Lost Patrol in June. I did the dozen Genestealers from that and have acquired some extra models and amazingly (mostly) stuck to painting them rather than wandering off on some other project. I'm now up to twenty-five models I think, which is a tiny army in 40K terms, but a lot for me. I decided to build a display board for them so I could enter them in Armies on Parade, which is Games Workshop's casual show-off-your-army competition. I left it all rather late and only had three weeks to do it, but it came out OK. I've since added more vegetation, trees etc. and painted some Lost Patrol scouts to replace the Terminator marines I used for AOP. Definitely a fun project, but I'm quite glad to draw a line under it in time for Christmas. I should probably go and finish off some of the many works-in-progress now. I do want to do more scenery now - maybe this will convince me to base more of my models than I usually manage to do! I did a Photoshopped pic as well, although I don't know if it's quite as satisfying as my previous effort. I enjoyed getting the lens flare in shot (from an LED worklight I bought for DIY purposes - very bright!) Thanks for looking and to everyone who chimed on the WIP thread - it was all very helpful. Cheers! Will

Hi all, I finished up another group of Tyranids on the eve of Armies on Parade - here are my two Tyranid Warriors and a Tyranid Prime which is a slightly better/fiercer one in game terms. Hence I have stood him a bit higher (click for bigger/more) I wasn't totally sure about these on the sprue, but they have a lot of personality and end up fairly large models too. Posing the weapons was quite fun - you don't have a lot of options for the lower arms, especially with the guns, but the upper arms and heads can be fiddled with to create some interesting poses. They were quite time-consuming to paint - all those arms - but probably most of it was not knowing how to approach the weapons. I was hoping for something which offered a bit more colour separation between the weapon and body, but all the things I thought about were too weird and I ended up being fairly conservative. I did have some bright greens and yellows for eyes and goo pipes though. I think the one with the whip is probably my favourite. I do have some more from another boxed set and I'll look at given them different weapon combos. I also rather fancy some of the original big-hoof-weird-head metal or plastic warriors from the '90s - those are quite odd but still make some visual sense alongside the modern sleek Alien versions. Cheers, Will
