This is the 48th scale Hobbyboss Tucano. Built as an EMB-312F serving with the French Air Force while based at Salon-de-provence AB in 2009. Extras are the fantastic @CaracalModelsdecals, Pavla ejection seats and Quick boost exhausts. It's now my favourite subject in the display cabinet. Cheers, Mick

Hi all. The EMB-312 Tucano is simple in design and the plastic by Hobbyboss reflects this. However, I've chosen some enhancements by way of swapping out the woefully out of register kit decals for a set by Caracal, a pair of Pavla M.B. Mk.8LC resin seats and some Quickboost resin exhausts. So far the build has been vice-less. This one has certainly been a palate cleanser and promises to be for the remainder of the build. If it was correctly boxed with the T.1 option as per the supplied decals I'd loved to have done an RAF gloss black version but alas, Hobbyboss has dropped the ball big time when providing decals for essentially a superfluous RAF machine. A quick inspection reveals some major differences including the canopy frame, instrument panel, nose shape, prop and exhaust locations. So this one will be a French bird as per the pic below. I'm really enjoying this build. Hope you like it. Mick 👍 I like the faded paint on the fuselage band behind the canopy and what appears to be a fresh coat of paint on the red glare panel and chin of the air intake. (Courtesy of jetphotos.net) Nice kit box art. These images from a few nights ago and the all of the empennage has been attached.

Hello everyone, Wanting to build a 1/72 Tucano, I couldn't miss the opportunity to buy one when I saw it. It wasn't the Super Tucano I had in mind but it was even better than that, a limited 2000 piece edition of a Tucano commemorative to the British WWI soldiers. The kit was curiously made in India (a first time for me), and it was pretty good with extremely high quality decals. Only detail was that the decals were flat (matt) while the plane has to be painted in gloss. This was funny since decal problems like that are usually the other way around (glossy decals on a matt body)... I know, I know, give it a coat of clear. I will do that as soon as I find it or an equivalent product. Completely painted by brush with gloss black lacquer with no primer or special treatment of any kind, just paint. Had I given it some kind of treatment it would've come out smoother. And finally, nice pictures from my new camera.

Hi, Relative newbie here so apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search for Tucano and nothing similar turned up - at least on the first 2-3 pages of results I'm about to start on one of these - the 1/72 Airfix jobbie, but I fancy something different. I was reading the Wikipedia page about the Tucano (Shorts) version and noted the debate about using them in a close support role and not just as a trainer. I know the UK ones are not fitted with hardpoints and so are unsuitable, but others are. e.g. Hardpoint locations seem to be clear here (not the Shorts version I know) : So I plan to build a what-if version - i.e. an RAF/Shorts version with added hardpoints and in military colours - probably borrowed from a Typhoon. The scenario would be some kind of situation involving ground forces requiring close air support to be provided rapidly. Tucanos, probably with additional tanks (would a centre hardpoint be suitable) would be able to loiter for long periods and answer demands as and when they came up. My questions are 1) how should I build the hardpoints (I've not done much scratch building but keen to learn), and/or what load-out or detailing kits would suit this type of idea (I'm noting the NATO type units at Hannants but they seem "large" for a small aircraft) ? I'm also tempted (just maybe no) to use WW2 style rockets, I have a few left over from various Mosquitos I've built as pathfinders or night-fighters. Also comments welcome, I'm sure this is just barmy. ;-)

Hi everyone, Just finished this one, the Tucano in 1/72 by Airfix. She's completely OOB (apart from tape for belts), brush painted and crammed with a lot more than the 7g weight advised in the instructions - and yes, she sits upright without any help! The fit of the kit isn't the best in places and the canopy was a bear to get right but am really happy how she turned out. Originally, I was going to do an all black a/c but I really like the retro 72 Sq scheme though the camo sand could be a shade darker I think (it was mixed using Revell ratios). The full build thread is here but in brief: Build: Except for belts from masking tape, all OOB. Paints: Halfords primer, Revell Acrylics brush painted. Klear coat for decals, Flory Models wash. Decals: All from kit - 2013 Tucano Display Team in anniversary markings for RAF 72 Squadron Extras: As much lead weight as i could cram in the nose and wing leading edges! Thanks for looking and comments/suggestions welcomed! All the best, Dermot

I made the most of the Wonderland Models' fathers' day offers and got myself a Tuc to do as a bit of a mojo booster (Plus, RAF Bathroom needed a trainer). I've done one before so I knew what to expect. A bit of work in places, but I'm pleased with the outcome. I finished this as the Church Fenton display aircraft, mainly as I remember seeing these and Jet Provosts flying low over my house as a youngster from CF and Linton-on-Ouse. As intended it's all OOB apart from some etched belts from Eduard and PJ Productions pilots. Base is a bathroom tile covered in fine grit sandpaper keeping up the RAF Bathroom tradition. Not intended to be a close-up kit, but looks great from a distance...with scrunched up eyes...in the dark... I hope you enjoy! David

Hi! Here`s my latest model - not my first, but first on Britmodeller. It`s Airfix` A03059 - Shorts Tucano T.1. made "out of the box", except resin ejection seats from Pavla. This kit is very simple and needs some work. Making it took me approx. 20 hours. Thinning of trailing edges is necessary here, not only because they are too thick, but also because there is a need to relieve the back of the model (even full load of lead in the front may be not enough). Best regards! Alex

Hi! As my first one here, I choose the RAF's turbopop trainer. I have got it from my girlfriend and she told me that I want to build "the black one". So I had no longer any options, she told me what I want to do... After opening the box, I had mixed feelings. However Airfix had improoved a lot, there is sill some need here to get even more better. Anyway the decls are excellent. I added the Pavla's seats, whiches were far oversized, I had to grind a lot, and also I had to build a new cockpit, to gain some extra space and correct the Airfix's fault and also, I had to make a new canopy. I scretched the undercarriage too. However I thinned the plastic in the nose and added as many wight that I cuold, did not managed to ballance it. So Its still sitting on it's butt. After a jolly time with the sandpapers and blades the model was primed with Mr. Surfacer, coated w/ Gunze acrylic flat black and finished with a lot of Future layers. And let me show you from the biggining: Some problems with the widht. The "edge" is as wide as the black line. Factory version to the left and corrected to the right: Pavla seats didnt fit. Minor corrections: Cockpit done: Vacu formed canpoy: Steps: Compaired to a Flanker : Painting: The trainer sqadron : Of course the matchbox will be replaced.

As a precursor to a more detailed Hawk T.2 build (WIP here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234977585-172-raf-valley-hawk-t2-diorama/) here are some pics from my 1/72 Tucano finished at the weekend. I enjoyed the build a lot, particularly the gloss finish and its overall look. I'm wanting to improve my photography skills too so if anyone has any tips for photographing models is be very grateful. I have a Canon 600D but am not getting the quality pictures I want. Anyway, here's the kit!

Not as many from me this year as last year, mostly due to work commitments but also a couple of these models taking far longer than they should...... All are 1/72 except one. In no particular order, first up a Special Hobby Hughes TH-55. I had no idea how many parts you are expected to scratchbuild with this kit. Quite a few of them really should have been provided in the kit. The skids were very brittle and I ended up replacing them with brass rod bent to shape. Keeping it in the family, Italeri OH-6A...... ....and their AH-6 ....Profiline MD500 - more pics here .......and their MD520N NOTAR - more pics here Amodel Su-26 with home made decals for one of the first Su-26s I ever saw; The two-seat Su-29 And the updated Su-31 Minicraft 757 1/144 - more pics here Italeri OH-58A converted to a Jet Ranger - more pics here Pavla Fa330 - very fiddly! - more pics here MPM Trent Meteor - more pics here Italeri Junkers Ju-52 - more pics here Amodel Yak-25RV - more pics here Pulled this out of the stash as the flimsy box was really suffering and thought 'There's only a few parts, how long would that take?' Big mistake, nothing fitted and lots of filler. After painting and decalling, I gave it a clear coat and the white in the decals bled out into the clear coat. That took some cleaning up and it's not perfect now but certainly a lot better than it was. Tupolev ANT-25 one of only a couple of kits produced by Tupolev themselves and a huge model! After the Tupolev struggle I felt like doing something just for fun, I'll add a load to it in the New Year, Airfix Recovery Set; Finally an Airfix Tucano. Bought this second-hand a few years ago, the decals were badly out of register so I did my own and just for something a bit different chose one of the QinetiQ aircraft. The paint is still wet on this at the moment so I'll tidy a few things up in the morning. Happy New Year to everyone. Steve

This year I had to make a choice between Waddington or Fairford. My long journey from Cornwall to Lincolnshire was a last minute decision but worth it as I was also able to spend a few nights with my son in London:

Hi! Finally got this finished last week. I think the upload affects the colours a bit so I've done my best to get it displaying correctly but you get the idea... The official blurb... The Royal Air Force 2013 Tucano Display aircraft is ZF239 based at RAF Linton–on-Ouse in North Yorkshire and will this season be flown by Flt Lt Andrew Fyvie-Rae, supported by Display Manager, Flt Lt Dave Kirby. The display this year is provided by 72 (Reserve) Squadron, which trains future fast jet aircrew for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy under the banner of No.1 Flying Training School and ZF239 has been painted to honour the Spitfires of 72 Squadron which fought in the 1943 Mediterranean campaign during World War II. In 2013 the team flies in support of the Royal Air Forces Association, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, Candlelighters Trust and Leonard Cheshire Disability and all fundraising proceeds will be passed on to these charities. The official print will be available to buy from early June and will be launched at the RAF Cosford Air Show on 9th June 2013. Prints can be ordered via the team's website at: www.raf.mod.uk/tucanodisplayteam Only unsigned prints will be available via mail order, priced at £5 (plus £5 P&P). The entire range of merchandise, including signed prints will be available to buy from the Tucano Display Team stand at selected air shows throughout the 2013 season and a full listing of scheduled displays can be found on the team's website. Tucano Display Aircraft 2012 / 13 1:72 Alley Cat For a few years now the RAF have been painting a special scheme on their Display Tucano every year. A2Zee have been making decals for these schemes for their excellent 1:48 Scale kit. For those of us who model in 1:72 the only option has been to buy the Limited Edition Kits from Airfix issued with these decals. Luckily now A2Zee are offering these decals in 1:72 for those of us with Tucano's in our stash who don't want to buy another kit. For the 2012 season the RAF designed two schemes for the Queen's Jubilee. These were the Red, White & Blue aircraft, and the all Black Aircraft with white chevrons. For the 2013 season the RAF have done another retro scheme of Dark Earth and Mid Stone over Azure Blue. The decals from A2Zee have been printed by Fantasy workshop and are of excellent quality. The colour density is good, there does not appear to be any registry problems and the white looks deep enough that the underlying colour should not bleed through. Looking at the sheet it appears there are enough decals (stencils and canopy det cord) for two aircraft. The third should also be able to be built with the addition of some kit decals. It is welcome that the canopy det cords are provided as decals as these are not in the kits. Full comprehensive painting instructions are provided for all three schemes. Recomended for anyone want do do one of the displays schemes not wanting to buy a special boxing to do so. Decal sheet Number ACD72010 Review sample courtesy of

Having got my sweaty paws on the Airfix Jubilee Tucano, I thought I'd add some extra detailing as I go along. However, there seems to be a distinct lack of detailed pics available. The walkround section here has provided some answers, and I've managed to unearth some pics of the front and rear instrument panels, but there's virtually nothing of the wheel wells, canopy and other assorted details. Does anyone here have any good links they've found? Do you have access to a Tucano and are willing and able to supply further pics for the Walkround section? Thanks in advance for any help, Mark.
