  2. This is the 48th scale Hobbyboss Tucano. Built as an EMB-312F serving with the French Air Force while based at Salon-de-provence AB in 2009. Extras are the fantastic @CaracalModelsdecals, Pavla ejection seats and Quick boost exhausts. It's now my favourite subject in the display cabinet. Cheers, Mick
  3. Hi all. The EMB-312 Tucano is simple in design and the plastic by Hobbyboss reflects this. However, I've chosen some enhancements by way of swapping out the woefully out of register kit decals for a set by Caracal, a pair of Pavla M.B. Mk.8LC resin seats and some Quickboost resin exhausts. So far the build has been vice-less. This one has certainly been a palate cleanser and promises to be for the remainder of the build. If it was correctly boxed with the T.1 option as per the supplied decals I'd loved to have done an RAF gloss black version but alas, Hobbyboss has dro

  8. Hello everyone, Wanting to build a 1/72 Tucano, I couldn't miss the opportunity to buy one when I saw it. It wasn't the Super Tucano I had in mind but it was even better than that, a limited 2000 piece edition of a Tucano commemorative to the British WWI soldiers. The kit was curiously made in India (a first time for me), and it was pretty good with extremely high quality decals. Only detail was that the decals were flat (matt) while the plane has to be painted in gloss. This was funny since decal problems like that are usually the other way around (glossy decals on a matt body)...

  10. Hi, Relative newbie here so apologies if this has been asked before, I did a search for Tucano and nothing similar turned up - at least on the first 2-3 pages of results I'm about to start on one of these - the 1/72 Airfix jobbie, but I fancy something different. I was reading the Wikipedia page about the Tucano (Shorts) version and noted the debate about using them in a close support role and not just as a trainer. I know the UK ones are not fitted with hardpoints and so are unsuitable, but others are. e.g. Hardpoint locations seem to be clear here (not the Shorts version I know) : So
  11. Hi everyone, Just finished this one, the Tucano in 1/72 by Airfix. She's completely OOB (apart from tape for belts), brush painted and crammed with a lot more than the 7g weight advised in the instructions - and yes, she sits upright without any help! The fit of the kit isn't the best in places and the canopy was a bear to get right but am really happy how she turned out. Originally, I was going to do an all black a/c but I really like the retro 72 Sq scheme though the camo sand could be a shade darker I think (it was mixed using Revell ratios). The full build thread is here but in brief:
  12. I made the most of the Wonderland Models' fathers' day offers and got myself a Tuc to do as a bit of a mojo booster (Plus, RAF Bathroom needed a trainer). I've done one before so I knew what to expect. A bit of work in places, but I'm pleased with the outcome. I finished this as the Church Fenton display aircraft, mainly as I remember seeing these and Jet Provosts flying low over my house as a youngster from CF and Linton-on-Ouse. As intended it's all OOB apart from some etched belts from Eduard and PJ Productions pilots. Base is a bathroom tile covered in fine grit sandpaper keeping up the RA
  13. Hi! Here`s my latest model - not my first, but first on Britmodeller. It`s Airfix` A03059 - Shorts Tucano T.1. made "out of the box", except resin ejection seats from Pavla. This kit is very simple and needs some work. Making it took me approx. 20 hours. Thinning of trailing edges is necessary here, not only because they are too thick, but also because there is a need to relieve the back of the model (even full load of lead in the front may be not enough). Best regards! Alex
  14. Hi! As my first one here, I choose the RAF's turbopop trainer. I have got it from my girlfriend and she told me that I want to build "the black one". So I had no longer any options, she told me what I want to do... After opening the box, I had mixed feelings. However Airfix had improoved a lot, there is sill some need here to get even more better. Anyway the decls are excellent. I added the Pavla's seats, whiches were far oversized, I had to grind a lot, and also I had to build a new cockpit, to gain some extra space and correct the Airfix's fault and also, I had to make a new canopy. I s
  15. As a precursor to a more detailed Hawk T.2 build (WIP here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234977585-172-raf-valley-hawk-t2-diorama/) here are some pics from my 1/72 Tucano finished at the weekend. I enjoyed the build a lot, particularly the gloss finish and its overall look. I'm wanting to improve my photography skills too so if anyone has any tips for photographing models is be very grateful. I have a Canon 600D but am not getting the quality pictures I want. Anyway, here's the kit!
  16. Not as many from me this year as last year, mostly due to work commitments but also a couple of these models taking far longer than they should...... All are 1/72 except one. In no particular order, first up a Special Hobby Hughes TH-55. I had no idea how many parts you are expected to scratchbuild with this kit. Quite a few of them really should have been provided in the kit. The skids were very brittle and I ended up replacing them with brass rod bent to shape. Keeping it in the family, Italeri OH-6A...... ....and their AH-6 ....Profiline MD500 - more pics here .......and their
  17. This year I had to make a choice between Waddington or Fairford. My long journey from Cornwall to Lincolnshire was a last minute decision but worth it as I was also able to spend a few nights with my son in London:
  18. Hi! Finally got this finished last week. I think the upload affects the colours a bit so I've done my best to get it displaying correctly but you get the idea... The official blurb... The Royal Air Force 2013 Tucano Display aircraft is ZF239 based at RAF Linton–on-Ouse in North Yorkshire and will this season be flown by Flt Lt Andrew Fyvie-Rae, supported by Display Manager, Flt Lt Dave Kirby. The display this year is provided by 72 (Reserve) Squadron, which trains future fast jet aircrew for the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy under the banner of No.1 Flying Training School and ZF239 has b
  19. Hi folks my entry for this group build will be Airfix,s Tucano,an aircraft I have never built before.the kit is very simple but nicely detailed for the scale.I had just started the cockpit when I read about this GB so held of doing more, there is a lovely white over red early scheme included which I am very tempted to try.
  20. Tucano Display Aircraft 2012 / 13 1:72 Alley Cat For a few years now the RAF have been painting a special scheme on their Display Tucano every year. A2Zee have been making decals for these schemes for their excellent 1:48 Scale kit. For those of us who model in 1:72 the only option has been to buy the Limited Edition Kits from Airfix issued with these decals. Luckily now A2Zee are offering these decals in 1:72 for those of us with Tucano's in our stash who don't want to buy another kit. For the 2012 season the RAF designed two schemes for the Queen's Jubilee. These were the Red, Whit

  22. Having got my sweaty paws on the Airfix Jubilee Tucano, I thought I'd add some extra detailing as I go along. However, there seems to be a distinct lack of detailed pics available. The walkround section here has provided some answers, and I've managed to unearth some pics of the front and rear instrument panels, but there's virtually nothing of the wheel wells, canopy and other assorted details. Does anyone here have any good links they've found? Do you have access to a Tucano and are willing and able to supply further pics for the Walkround section? Thanks in advance for any help, Mark.
