  1. Hi all, sorry if I have not been too active on here as I was busy. However, I did make this T-72A from Trumpeter in Indian Army colours. Comments and critique welcome. Pre-weathering Post weathering:
  2. This one has been on the go for quite a while now but I've managed to find the time over the last few weeks to bring her to completion. A Royal Australian Navy Sea Fury (VW 632) from HMAS Sydney circa 1950. The kit is from Trumpeter in 1/72 scale with a few corrections and modifications. The main decals are from Aussie Decals and the stencils come from the Airfix boxing of the Sea Fury. I did not post a work in progress thread but can say that the kit does go together quite nicely. I kept weathering light, only accenting some of the engine panels, moveable control surfaces and dirtying up the undercarriage and wing fold which I'm sure would accumulate grease and grime. I did however fail miserably when trying to replicate the distinctive exhaust patterns! The crude carrier deck was designed in Powerpoint and is printed with a background of Hobart Harbour.
  3. Hallo Here it is my MIG-23 M Flogger B in 1/48 in Russian service. With aftermarket parts from Aires (cockpit and nozzle), Eduard Brasin wheels, Upwind metal gear, New Ware masks. The build is tricky, because the instructions are not quite explicit. Very often you are mislead by indication arrows. They are shown in invisible areas, as visible indication. Not dashed. Especially the gear parts are unfortunate displayed and shown. Anyway, a nice challenge. Further MIGs to build ahead. 27 will be the first on. Happy modelling
  4. Hallo Now a very different WIP. Different in many ways. I finished last week my RE.8 from WW1. Here I got to a climax in my ability, which satisfied me really. This was the impetus to change the subject, to jets again. And here to continue in my MIG series. After 15 , 17 and 19 and a batch of 21s. The challenge for me is to get the right touch on the external paint. This is a grey with a metallic shine. Like on so many MIGs. Ok, so I took this challenge and tried something. I knew, all I did in the past did not meet the subject in a satisfying way. Think over it and try step by step. Finally I ended up by doing a mixture of paint. The outer surface is mentioned as grey from Gunze in C308. Good, since I work on C color basis I added about one third of Aluminum in C8. This is in the C spectrum with extremely fine pigments. (not at all in H8!!!) The mixture looks for me excellent, since it makes the grey metallic looking. Anyway, you will decide, what you like or how you think about this idea. I use for this model an Aires cockpit and the nozzle. Both of them are in a certain way unfinished products as you may know. Unfinished that way, that the instruction invites to guess, instead of being a helpful & explanatory instruction. If using a PE part, you may guess where is the exact position to glue it at all. For me all Aires products are half finished. I was unsatisfied about the painting of my models at all. I think that it is unwise to use strict colors as mentioned in the instruction. I changed my arrangement of paints in the shelf. They were in line with the numbers. From C1 to up the highest number. Anyway I arranged them in shades. White shades, grey shades, green shades in my shelf. The basic color may be used, but not always. I get now much more shades during painting. An other thing was the details at the surface. Panel lines. Here I underwent now also a major change. By doing all panel lines first with Tamiya panel line fluid. After finishing the excess is cleaned away with cotton bud and airbrush cleaner. The spraying on this surface gives me a total new appearance. So far my new way. For me it is a new challenge to get the model more looking like the original. Good photos gave me the kick. Duke Hawkins is a master of this profession! All you see, now from the cockpit and nozzle is waiting for detail work. Happy modelling
  5. Trumpeter is to re-release its 1/48th C-47 Skytrain kit in late June 2020 as Douglas DC-3 - ref. 05813 Source: http://www.trumpeter-china.com/index.php?g=home&m=article&a=show&id=181&l=en 3D render V.P.
  6. Hello everyone, I have been a long time lurker, but I've just plucked up enough courage to post one of my own builds, H.M.S. Cornwall by Trumpeter, and Eduard's Big Ed kit, chinese barrels and wooden decks. I know there will be discrepancies and mistakes made not just by me, but Trumpeter and Eduard too, but this I'm not here to discuss them just now. Oh and this is the first model I have made for about 15 years and the first time I've ever used P.E.! I have to say I did really enjoy building it, even though, at times i found the PE kit incredibly frustrating and fiddly ( sausage fingers, shaking hands and complete ineptitude when it comes to rigging😁.)
  7. Good morning, a few weeks ago, I started my biggest modeling effort so far: the well-known and praised USS Nimitz from Trumpeter. A fine kit, and to make it even better, I got the Eduard set, the Starfighter decal set and some more airplanes. After all, it should look rather busy. My idea is to have the carrier look like this: http://www.thunderstreaks.com/spotting/carrier-visit-uss-nimitz-august-16-17-1976/#prettyPhoto , with some minor changes on the aircraft layout. Let's start with the aircrafts: first problem, the trumpeter ones have folded-out wings, but on the original, almost all wings are folded. So, fist step, is to cut the outer wings, are reglue them straight up. That's however nor possible for the intruder/prowler/skywarrior, since the wings overlap. Corsair and phantoms are easier, they point straigt up, thus painting and decalling should still be possible. After glueing, they receive a small blob of maskol, and a black priming. You see the difference later. That's some 60 aircrafts, of many different types and colours. And that's why I build the old one, still with the phantoms. After the black priming, I airbrushed the white, and then brush painted the light gull grey. The decals are the ones provided with the trumpeter kit, only 6 corsairs of the "sidewinder"-squadron. And you can see, the cockpit without the black priming is far too bright. And that's a corsair with black priming and the starfighter decals. They are nice to handle, but still can drive you crazy. All decals are separate, where they could have been grouped together. In the front fuselage, there are some 6 decals on each side, which could have beed grouped easily together. Oh, another nice point of the black priming: the intake looks rather realistic. If you don't spray the white head-on, it looks like the real thing, as it is dark grey. With some more 60 aircrafts to go, don't expect an update too soon... it took me 90 minutes for one aircraft, but the others have a bit less decals than the corsairs. Alex
  8. Hi folk's,my build fits in with my 1/32 groove at the moment and an aircraft I had never seen or heard of before, a nicely molded kit and one of Trumpeters early releases it scales out about the size of a Spitfire seems to be a straightforward breakdown of parts too.I'll crack on with this then if time permits I have the mighty SR 71 Blackbird in the stash waiting to be built.
  9. The Build log is here https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235070426-1350-hms-kent-county-class-cruiser-1941/ Thanks are due to Richard Dennis @dickrd and Jamie Duff @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies for their considerable input into the Colour scheme, which differs substantially from previous interpretations. I've made extensive use of 3 D printed items from https://micromaster.co.nz/ which IMHO have set new standards in small scale detailed realism HMS Berwick, a sister vessel to HMS Kent along soon Thanks for looking Rob
  10. Trumpeter is to release a 1/24th Junkers Ju-87A Stuka kit - ref. 02420 A test build was on display at the All Japan Model & Hobby Show 2016. 11. Quite surprisingly still no trace nor rumour - even from Chinese modellers homepages - about the Trumpeter catalogue 2021-2022. V.P.
  12. Hello. This is my second chopper build and its in a big scale. 1/35 Trumpeter kit painted in Myanmar Air Force colors. OOB build with some scratch details added. Hope you like it.
  13. Hallo So, actually almost finished. The areal is not done yet. The goal was all spraying, and no use of any decal. Well, let me know what you think about this! Happy modelling
  14. My next build is Trumpeter's 1:72 British Wyvern S.4. I'm quite excited about this build as it will be my first kit made by Trumpeter, and it looks fantastic. The box art is stunning, and entice you right in. The instruction booklet is large with clear and beautiful pictures, as is the colour scheme/ decal sheet. There are 5 grey sprues with a nice amount of detail and no flash. There is a small clear sprue, and large decal sheet which contains a film piece for the instrument panel. I plan to build it straight from the box, using Vallejo acrylics, with the wings in folded position. I will use the colour scheme of 830Sqn HMS Eagle, 1956. Time now to give the sprues a wash and set to work
  15. While forced to stay at home, time to build is available rather abundant. So, a new kist has been opened after finishing the M1 gun (see The first carrier is ready to receive it's base color:
  16. An exercice of style with this oceanic vignette made in a GB initiate in my modelling club of witch i'm a recent member. I was very curious of making such a stuff. the trumpeter kit is stunning and i had just replaced the masts. It was a pleasure to paint and weathering it. There is some scratch work on the Glen. Most of all, i'm very proud of the albatross 😁 And the final result : See you ! Fabrice https://www.facebook.com/Fabrice-Simon-104518141316306
  17. Hi folks, Firstly - I'm aware of the great build threads (with fix observations) that have been posted here on BM - the some excellent thoughts and input - you there Bill? What I'd like to get together here is a definitive list of errors - with dimensional/photographic proof. So - looking out for theories/physical measurements/photographic evidence... Reason - I *really* love the Lightning and I doubt we'll ever get another in 1:32. And IMHO there is a lot that's good - we've got injection moulded 1:32 Lightnings for one! Sooo - am looking at making up some 'correction' patterns for these kits - possibly... What I have on the list at present is: Fuselage plug (5 mm to fuselage length) - This is something I will be double checking with a real airframe. Nose ring Intake/nose gear bay Replacement fuselage tanks (all versions) Fuselage cable ducts (as required per Mk) Rear fuselage cross section Possible narrow chord on fin (F2A/F6) Canopy - I have a gut feeling looking at a few completed models that the canopy is somehow wrong - gut feeling is far too wide - again - to be confirmed Wheels/Refuelling probe available elsewhere and main gear can be shortened. Anything missing from list? Any further observations? Iain
  18. Hallo Now this is a matter of a big project. Because 3 Panzer IV with interior are in my stash. I want to build them starting with Bergepanzer from Trumpeter, and Ausführung J from MiniArt and after that from RFM. The MiniArt kit is the guideline. Because this kit from MiniArt is the best of all. In detail and color instruction. Also the website is also a marvelous guideline. The Bergepanzer will have the same color pattern as the late version J. So, actually I intend to build my Bergepanzer in a late version. After 1943. With one book about the versions of Panzer IV I hope to get along. Happy modelling
  19. Hello All, I have been looking at all of the group builds on Britmodeller the last week or so thinking what ones can I join (I would like to join a few but I must be realistic). My modelling time has been short of late as in August I was made redundant from my job when the 80% furlough scheme finished (yeah - funny that!) and I then started another job 3 weeks later (yes I know I was lucky there). I have thanked my old place of employment for playing for my holiday with my redundancy money and the deposit for a new car (70 plate Nissan Juke if you must know). I now work for the Fire Brigade in their IT deptartment - I love it there. The work/life balance is amazing compared to my last place and I am enjoying the challenge - however it also means I am dead to the world when I get home. So I thought I would enter the longest running/just started GB with what I am hoping will be an easy build! As I understand it, SAM's are allowed in this GB? With that assumption in mind I have picked out the Trumpeter SAM-6 from the stash. I thought I would break up the aircraft models with this little beastie. Not much to look at huh? Onto the sprues... exciting! I am going to go for the Polish one as that seems interesting to me for some reason. Can anyone make heads or tails of that? I know my record on previous GB's isn't the best, but I do have to admit I did finish the model in my last GB I joined the "model kit you built as a kid" one. I just haven't posted any pictures of it... see below. Those micro-missiles really do bug me. I might look at them in a few years. So the plan is to get a simple kit done and painted. I do have another idea for this one, but I will need to see if the Postman is kind to me. Kind regards, Dazz
  20. I started this build as an entry to the Carriers Ahoy! GB, but as I am a slow builder, I didn't finish the model in the time frame of the GB. It didn't help to learn during this build that the Trumpeter kit unfortunately has more wrong than right. I don’t know why, but I do like the look of the Hawker Sea Hawk, so I have a go in building the Trumpeter kit in 1/48. And as I like the special markings used during the Suez crisis, I am building an FGA.4 from 810 Squadron flying from HMS Albion during December 1956. The aircraft is XE335. I found two pictures of this particular aircraft. On the first picture all looks like it should be. But the second picture, which shows XE335 from the other side, transiting through Istres in France in November 1956, has the number 4 for some reasons much wider! And here is the kit. As I would like to add some detail to the kit, I spent a bit of time researching the type and the kit - an activity I enjoy as much as building the kit . I read lots of reviews and build reports. But as this is an older kit, there are not too many online reviews on the WEB and build reports aren't plentyfull either. Some reviewer compare the kit in quality to Tamiya which I don’t agree with as the detail is a bit soft and not as refined as on a Tamiya kit. Fortunately the Sea Hawk is one of the better kits Trumpeter managed to make as the outline is to scale and captures the lines of the aircraft well. But unfortunately not the same can be said when it comes to details, so there is still ample of scope to improve. Some areas which I feel can do with corrections are: - The gun openings. They slant upwards and just look wrong. - The cockpit air intakes. - The Engine air intakes. The dividing plates aren’t strait. - The front wheel undercarriage cover is positioned too far back. - The air brakes. Even when closed they can be enhanced. In addition, I will replace the cockpit and wheel bays with Aires resin parts. Here is some of the information I found on the web: Reviews: Cybermodeler Modeling Madness - some great building tips IPMS Germany - in German Build Reports: ARC Forum Miniature-Arcadia Britmodeller Walkarounds: Cybermodeler - FB.5 at Duxford ScaleModels.RU - FB.5 at Duxford ScaleModels.RU - FB.5 at Gatwick ScaleModels.RU - FB.3 at Newark Net-Maquettes - Mk.50 at Den Helder IPMS Nederland - Mk.50 at Den Helder Prime Portal - FB.5 Prime Portal - FGA.6 Thunder & Lighning - Various Britmodeller - Various Certainly no shortage on Walkaround information, but If you know any other links, please share them here. 21. Build log here..... Those of you who followed, know that HMS Berwick arrived as a slight after thought Thanks for looking Rob
  22. First completed build of 2021! Trumpeter's huge 1/32 P-47D Thunderbolt. It's not as good as the Hasegawa kit, but it's cheaper and still builds up well. It's not a challenging build but the interior has to be seen to be believed! Build thread is here for anyone interested: It's painted with lacquers and enamels (Alclad 2, MRP and Alclad Mil-Spec) and after-effects done with Mig and AK enamel washes. The model is built completely out of the box (in fact there's a lot of plastic still left in the box!) except for the decals which were KitsWorld (aircraft specific), Fantasy Printshop (insignia) and HGW Wet Transfers (stencils) The kit fit together really well, the only putty required was for the wing roots, a bit around the bottom fuselage seam, and the area around the fin/stabilizer joints: Really nice nose art and decals by KitsWorld: Finished as 'Look! No Hands', a 509th FS, 405th FG P-47D flown by Maj Chester Van Etten. The 405th was a dedicated ground-support wing which claimed over 4,000 ground targets destroyed between its three squadrons between July 1944 and May 1945, an eye-watering total. Nearly 400 of these happened in a single action on 29 July 1944 during the Operation Cobra breakout, when the 405th was responsible for the destruction of an entire German armoured division over a three-mile column near Roncey. I depicted it with a typical armament during the Third Army campaign across France - a 150-gal centre tank and two 500lb bombs. I tried to make it look used but still clean and neat, as it's a decent kit and deserves better than being splattered with dirt This is the first Thunderbolt I've made as an adult - I preferred the neat lines of the P-51 and P-38 to this other workhorse of the US Army Air Corps, but the lines are quite aesthetic. Pleased to finally have one in my collection! Thanks for looking and I'll see you back here when my Spitfire IIa is finished Alan
  23. Hello all, keep in safe I hope. Well this Ju-87 was started at the same time as my 109 (1/32 Bf109E White 13 'Another sortie done' - Ready for Inspection - Aircraft - Britmodeller.com) due to the hope that I would be getting some nice wintery weather as a back drop for the photos........but sadly like 2020 its self, it didnt work out! So, onto the plane, it went together very well without any fit issues at all and painted with Gunze paints. No after market pieces except some homemade seat belts and then weathered with oils. Ok, some might reckon its over done but this was an effect I was after on this one :-)
