  1. Hello fellows, Here my P47-D Thunderbolt, "2 big and Too Heavy", finished. A wonderful kit from Trumpeter; the only drawaback was that the engine was impossible to fit in the cowling, as I explained in the WIP thread. I hope you like the fotos, as much I enjoyed building and painting this wonderful "jug". Your comments will be welcome... And here, the link to my WIP: Thanks for looking!
  2. For a few years I've been trying to make "super-kits" using all sorts of aftermarket resin and PE stuff, weird and wonderful weathering effects, scratchbuilding, superdetailing etc. I've ended up spending mega-£££'s on hyper-accurate, big grey aeroplanes, but really not getting anywhere in terms of improving the overall standard of my models - they all end up looking various shades of mediocre, and cost me a fortune with it. So I decided to get hold of a really nice kit and just build it out of the box to try to get back to basics with my modelling skills - neater construction, more consistent airbrushing, more patient detail painting and sharper finishing. I'm hoping to end up with something that just looks nice that i can be proud of rather than trying to be marvellous. Hopefully this will give me back the fun of the hobby rather than trying to be impressive and losing track of why i'm doing it. Inside - looks pretty clever until you realise none of it is visible! Engine face Gun bay - one side will be open Ammo guides on the open side: Driver's cab and panel so far Feeling better already!
  3. Welcome to my first attempt at a 'Work in Progress' post. The subject matter is this, the Trumpeter 1/32 Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3; a kit dating back to 2004 apparently: I bought this kit on good old eBay with lots of aftermarket goodies included. The Aires cockpit set: Eduard photo-etched sets: Quickboost exhaust and Aerobonus pilot: The figure is new territory for me. I frequently see figures and dioramas at model shows and think 'I wish I could do that' but never get round to actually trying. Although the scheme depicted on the box artwork is great, I quite fancied tackling a more 'rough and ready' winter paint job. This Montex mask has just the thing, the standard camouflage with white slapped on roughly in the field to the tail and outer wings: This should provide good company in the display cabinet for my Special Hobby 1/32 I-16 type 17: Like many of us I am making the move from enamel to acrylic paint. The I-16 was finished using White Ensign enamels, for the MiG-3 I have picked up this handy set from Vallejo: And for our man in the cockpit: My main printed reference is this book from the excellent Mushroom series: It even has a profile of my chosen subject, with a name for the pilot: Lieutenant Panfilov Evgenyi Maksimovich.
  4. And after almost two years without building models (it's already the second time I've made an extended stop), and in January of this year I decided to start a new model. This is a Me 109 G10 Trumpeter 1/32. I started by the engine and then the propeller. The complete engine / cockpit assembly. I glued the fuselage and the wings. Landing gear and wheels, auxiliary tank ready. Best regards ajcmac

  6. Completely out of the box this one. Very nice kit, and great value for money I think. Painted in Tamiya. Over weathered because that's the way I like pacific WW2 aircraft! Hope you like it, thanks for looking. on the deck of my garden carrier
  7. Started some soothing afternoon or two modelling with this big beastie, its all OTB (the etch for is included, it suggests using paper for the belts but i used the foil off a wine bottle instead) so far although i might had a few bits of wiring to keep it nice and busy looking. Wants a final blast with the aribrush to remove the excess weathering powder and a quick splash of matt and then onto part 2. It's all gone together quick well for a Trumpeter kit so far (the last one I built, a Corsair was shocking)
  8. The model is from Trumpeter, interiors Aires wheels from Eduard (Brassin), Radu Branzan belts and decals. The plane was piloted by Slt. DiCezare Ion, who died last year at the age of 96 years, with the rank of retired generals. 16 confirmed and 3 probable victories in over 500 aerial combat. "Come on girl" was the name of a racehorse, DiCezare was a fan of horse racing. WIP here: http://www.cartula.ro/forum/topic/10562-me-109-e3-arr/ Enjoy it, Florin
  9. Hello Gentlemen, here you are my latest one. The Trumpeter kit is not too bad even if not extremely detailed. Well it gave me the opportunity to practice with some scratch built improvement. Some good picture found on line helped me to add some cockpit and landing gear details. I was in doubt to buy some aftermarket stuff for flaps details, but then I decided to save money and use plasticard, brass wire etc. and do it myself. I'm not 100% satisfied, but as a first attempt it could be worse. The model has been painted with airrush using Tamiya acrylics and finished with Tamiya spray flat coating. Comments and suggestion for improvements are always welcome. Thanks for looking
  10. Actually started this last weekend, but hadn't really got a lot done to show. After the nice little spitfire, this is HUGE. To go with the kit i've also got the Aires Cockpit (which is lovely), and the SAC metal gear (which is somewhat disappointing really). Most of time last weekend and a lot of today was spent on the intake - lots of ejector pins to fill, then sand to get it all smooth. Ended up with about 3 attempts, and being honest still isn't as smooth as i'd like it. Then on with the pit - sprayed gunze aircraft grey, then detail painting with vallejo model colour, and some oil weathering. Peter
