1. Hi all, Well here's my first attempt at uploading to Britmodeller, so here goes... After a lay off from modelling for over a decade, in Arnies famous words..."I'm back"👍 I started this years ago, and so I thought I'd finish some dust covered boxes...so here's Italeri's Tornado. To be frank, it's nearly gone in the bin so many times, it is awful. I enjoyed doing the Airfix Buc more😜 It it has the fab NeOmega cockpit, Brassin GBU-10's and the Master pitot tube. It's painted in a mix of Aeromaster and Vallejo, and the decals are Printscale. http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0104_zps60gtfkqg.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0105_zps9reiqlak.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0116_zpseykzykrr.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0111_zpsnzucvfzn.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0109_zps3psjfjgs.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0113_zps5kppmhrv.jpg.html] http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Covjets13/media/IMG_0107_zpsuee9kszm.jpg.html] Thanks for looking. Si
2. Hi, I was sourcing decals to produce a Tornado GR.4 in 1/72 looking like one of the aircraft flying from Akrotiri for Op Shader. Therefor I've 2 questions: Can anyone provide a serial list of the aircraft deployed (public or if that's not possible, through PM?) And for what my research has brought up, it seems they have all rather dull markings without squadron markings and display only a white 3-digit number on the tail (XV Squadron?). I couldn't find any decals to use for this subject, only I stumbled across Xtradecal X72158 RAF White letters, numerals and titles which seem to be the right style of numbers to use, but are they really? I can source the serials from other decal sheets but these 3 digit codes are somewhat difficult to get by seemingly. Thanks in advance!!! Greetings
3. I'm just doing the Aires exhausts for the Revell 1/32 Tornado. Looking online for photo references prior to paining, images seem to show the burner much closer to the tail end than they are in the resin set. Is this just an optical illusion in the images because of the more end on angle of the shot? The resin set are certainly comparable in length to the kit plastic, but not sure that tells me much. Any further information much appreciated Simon
4. As in the title, I am looking for RAF decals for either the GR.1 or GR.4 for the big Revell Tonka. Does anyone know of a good set or any at all? Rob
5. Hi guys, I've been looking for a set of the 1:32 telic tornado decals. Does anyone know where I can get them from? cheers, Michael
6. Excellent, well researched, deep enough but not too intense to be enjoyable. A very good book about aeroplanes. And who doesn't like a good book about aeroplanes?
7. Hi all, I am giving some serious consideration to building a Saudi Tornado (in the older desert camo) and want to know which Revell 1/48 boxing I need to buy to cover the mark the Saudi's use, or even if both boxings have identical parts inside. Thanks. Craig.
8. Hi all and just finished this one for the Tornado Tribute GB in memory of Merv (Spike7451). Aside from the white which is from a rattle can, she's brush painted with the black lines from a permanent ink marker. Built totally OOB and more pics and WIP thread over in the GB. Thanks for looking. Dermot
9. Hi all, I'm currently working through a 'what if' of the Airfix 1/72 Tornado. Needless to say, those who have built it will know just what it is like. I was going to build it Grey as it should be, but then I had an idea after I had primed it black, how good they look in black. I was going to give it a night fighter scheme, but then opted for a 'what if' of a bomber command special livery, as the Op Granby Tonka is at the moment. I'm going to use a mix of aftermarket Granby decals, and the kit decals. I thought this would be a good idea as I've never seen it done before. 'Primed' with a coat of Tamiya X-1 Photographed beside my girlfriend's Airfix C47 Masking for camo layed out. I tried to follow the examples set by the Halifax and Lancaster bomber styles. A couple of coats of Tamiya Flat Earth first. Followed by Tamiya RAF Dark Green 2 First unveiling of the masking efforts, the black is still X-1 but I changed that to NATO Black. The Hindenburger fuel tanks from the Revell equivalent, and I wasn't aware until afterwards that I put the fins on wrong. The underside, having been painted with Tamiya NATO Black, and Pitot probe painted silver. The blu tac was holding the fuel tanks straight while drying Top down view of the paint job. As she is now. Exhausts fitted, still needs some minor touch ups, clear coated, and awaiting decals and weathering. I have either a Harrier GR9 or SU27 to keep me entertained until I'm ready to progess with this kit.
10. Hi My first finished build to be posted up here and I think my it's my fifth or sixth since getting into modelling. This was started as part of the Tornado Group Build last Summer, but progress stalled. I saw this jet flying with the Lancaster at RIAT and loved the tail design.. This was the Revell GR1 kit with Freightdog GR4 resin parts, Modelmaster Pitot, Eduard Photoetch and Xtradecal Decals (my first use of photoetch and aftermarket decals). I'm still getting to grips with the Airbrush, but I think I'm starting to work it out. A few things went wrong, the front windscreen cracked, the rear wings broke off a few times, the swinging pylons broke so are now fixed, and I couldn't get the wingtip lights on, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. Thanks for looking, any tips for improvements welcome. Steve
11. Last summer was the first time the "Tag der Bundeswehr" (German Army Day) was celebrated. The Luftwaffe invited the public to Manching AFB, near the Eurofighter Manufacturing Line from Cassidian. I took the opportunity and made a few pictures .. More pictures can be found here: http://petesmancave.blogspot.de/ Cheers Pete
12. Good afternoon, after some delay, I finally took the opportunity to take the pictures of the Tornado. The WIP can be found in the Tornado group build. The kit used was the fantastic Revell kit, with some minor Eduard PE parts, Pavla seats, decals from the kit and Model Alliance (https://www.hannants.co.uk/product/ML72104). I had to use a lot of decal softener, but I think, the result looks fine and Spike would have liked the outcome. So, once more, raise your glasses and drink on Spikes memory! Alex
13. Hi, been working on this for the last couple of months when time allows. Pretty much done, built as ZD740 from the Xtradecal set. Used the Revell 1/48 GR.4 kit as the basis. Lots of fun, and very pleased with the result. Misplaced the clear sprue somewhere so no nav lights on the intakes or landing lights but I have 2 clear sprues which will turn up soon. Enjoy.
14. Second attempt to finish this 1/48th Italeri Tornado IDS which will be completed as an RAF GR.1 version from 1991 (probably as 'Gulf Killer'). This was originally started in the Tornado III group build in memory of Merv Milliken and I would like to get it completed before starting a 'big' project for the winter. This is where she has got to: I actually started yesterday before going to work, have painted the wheel wells and attached the undercarriage legs, also painted the wheels and attached those. One big mistake, I misread the instructions and have attached the main gear doors strut in the wrong place so they might have to come off again Oh, and the bomb racks are not straight! Most of the hard work has been done already, just got to concentrate. Michael
15. The Telegraph are reporting that RAF Typhoons and Tornados are to pair up in an attempt to avoid clashes with Russia over Syria. http://bit.ly/1R2GkaK
16. Hi everyone, Looking at the kits to hand, I was thinking of just a straightforward build of this little fella...How neat is that wee sprue! But then I thought, nah..why not go all in with something involving a bit more head-wrecking plastic cutting. Having recently finished a Tornado, I thought I'd give one another go but this time adding some bits from the kit below... I know there's already another RN Tornado underway here (looks cool) and this probably isn't the most original idea but thought I'd give this one the fixed wings and smaller twin tails from the Hornet. I like the idea of an asymetric loadout too so that might get the nod as well. Bodging (and backstory) starts tomorrow night! Cheers, Dermot
17. This'll be my entry: Photo credit and © Carl Woodend via Flickr A bang up to date, 31 Sq GR.4, post-Ellamy and Shader-ready! Probably ZA472, as it also has the code number 031. Don't know if it has the TARDIS upgrade, but it will for this build! There's a lot of work to be done as I have the Flightpath detail set and flaps set, plus all the other complications of making a 1/32 Revell kit (seams, soft detail, dodgy structures etc) © raf.mod.uk It'd help me if anyone could identify the store on the nearest pylon. Otherwise it'll be the standard Sky Shadow like the one in the background. Cheers, Al
18. After having a bit of a fight in the closing furlong with decals I am happy to present my attempt at the new Revell Tornado IDS. Work in Progress http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234990425-revell-148-tornado-ids-luftwaffe/
19. Folks I'm doing ZA254 in the roll out scheme. I'd like to know the mark of Sidewinder that's fitted for the early days. On google and book references I've seen a very rounded head winder with the front aero foils being almost triangle. These were fitted for the rollout in Aug 1979. Secondly and more common has a more streamlined head and is painted blue, the front aero foils have a slight kink in them. Are these available in 1/32? Any help appreciated.
20. Here is my latest build both 1:48. Using the HobbyBoss and Italeri kits with Eduard BigEd sets for both, some scratch building where needed and painted with Vallejo Air. I know the pureists amongst you don't like the shape of the HobbyBoss nose, but I have to say its a far superior kit to the Italeri! I have had to use filters for the photos to get some half decent images, I can assure you they are not quite as weathered as they appear in the pics!
21. On this my second set of builds for the GB, I plan to use the Revell 1/144th kit for examples from Luftwaffe, Italian Airforce and RSAF. As the kits are basically the same I intend to include them as a single topic. If the mods would like me to split the builds then please let me know. The Luftwaffe example is an ECR in the 2011 Tiger Scheme and will be made out of the box For the Italian IDS - ECR I am going to use this kit and for the RSAF IDS I am using a GR1 kit. For the Italian and RSAF aircraft I am going to use decals from the excellent MARK1 book
22. Hi I'll be building a 1/72 Revell Tornado GR.1 as one of the Dambuster's 70th Anniversary GR.4s from a couple of years ago. I saw the flypast with the Lancaster at RIAT that year and loved the tail design. I'll be using the Freightdog conversion kit. Xtradecal decals, Eduard photoetch interior, Master pitot tube and Montex mask. My first time using photoetch or a mask, but wanted to try and take a step forward with my builds. I'll add some photos tonight. Thanks for letting me join the build. Steve
23. Hi I'm currently building a 1/72 scale Tornado GR4 - using the 617 squadron 70th anniversary markings on the Xtradecal RAF 2014 update sheet http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234983226-172-revell-tornado-dambusters-anniversary/page-2 The stencils I have come from the Revell GR1 kit, are these the right ones to use on this GR4 scheme, or will I need to acquire some new ones? I've tried looking around the net, but can't work out exactly what I might need. Any advice or help on this would be much appreciated, I hadn't really thought this far ahead when I started. Thanks Steve
24. I have never new Merv, but I think he will be proud to see a GB in commemoration of him. I am not a Tornado builder, but I want to try it for Merv. I have a model of the Airfix 1/48 Tornado F.3 in my stash for quite a wile. It's the ancient boxing without the updates. I hope I can do it justice. I have been rescribing here a few weeks back for this. It's not high stand, but looks a lot better than the raised panel lines. Here are some pictures of the box content with some goodies for it. Cheers,
25. Hey everyone, Like many, I only met Merv 'electronically' via the last Tornado GB...which also happened to be my first here on Britmodeller. He made me feel very welcome, encouraged me all along the way (even when my cr*p build wasn't going so well) and was a gent. So when this GB came around, I knew I had to build a Tornado to be proud of...and that would be an improvement on my last. So I'm in with this. Here's the real deal...that paintwork is going to be interesting. But it will be totally worth it. http://www.airliners.net/photo/Germany---Air/Panavia-Tornado-IDS/1813386/L/&sid=0e302a591a33725d443b9dc05d26aec3 Good luck with your builds! Dermot
