  1. I am working on the Revell"s 1/48 Tornado IDS, representing the italian Prototype (pre series) . I am using Resins for the jet exhaust engines petals and I would like to know what was the colour of the exhausts inside ? I know american jet fighters use some kind of ceramic on theirs engine petals (F-15, F-16, F-18), some colour that appears to be even white or light cream ? SouthViper
  2. ZA613 was the 152nd Tornado delivered to the RAF, entering service in August 1982. It was one of the initial batch to serve with 27 squadron at Marham and remained with the unit until it relinquished Tornados in 1993. The aircraft was later converted to a GR4, and survives to this day at RAF Honington as a ground instructional airframe. This model depicts the Tornado in its heyday of the mid 1980s, as flown from Marham by 27 squadron. WIP here: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235096658-old-school-tornado/
  3. Is there any other source for MW-1 pods other than the Hobbyboss IDS kit? I'm guessing that there must've been some handy guy that made a resin example but I can't find any. Or is the demand just there for RAF Tonkas and Gulf War weapons? The Tornado GB starts in September and one wants to be suitable prepared fort it 😎
  4. Hi folks, My first completed model in quite too long a time. The WIP is there: Kit: Revell Tornado IDS Decals: Mission Mark Decals Italian Tornado before turning grey HARM from Kinetic F/A-18C kit The belts were made using a sandwich of kabuki-ish tape and aluminum wrap. Here we go: May the Year of the Condescending Carp be good for you and yours, Cheers, S.
  5. Tornado IDS from Revell is done. After sometime stuck in the Revell-instruction-maze, i have done it. Very nice kit and beautiful decal ! There are some gap need to fill but overall the kit coming very well. I have made a video full build of the kit here link : Deleted - no links to YouTube channels Thank you for watching guys ! Here is some photos :
  6. I started these last year as part of the STGB Memorial Build for fellow Britmodeller Merv Milliken (Spike7451). I wanted to try and represent each nation that operates the Tornado and was keen to include an F.3 example. I scratch built some of the missing details such as the Secondary Heat Exchanger intake and other bits relevant to the aircraft modelled. Decals for the Luftwaffe ECR and the RAF F.3 are from the kits with some additional stencilling from a Hannants Xtradecal sheet. The Italian and Saudi examples came from Mark1's book of twelve Tornados I didn't get them over the line for that GB, so when the KUTA VIII GB came along at the back end of the year I decided that I would try to complete them for that. That GB finished a couple of weeks ago and here are the finished models. Tornado ECR 2011 Tigermeet - Revell 1/144 Tornado F.3 RAF 56 R Squadron (Firebirds) - Dragon 1/144 Tornado ECR Italian Air Force - Revell 1/144 Tornado IDS Royal Saudi Air Force - Revell 1/144 And finally a shot of all four together I had a lot of fun putting these together and I'm sure that there are lots of things that Merv would have pointed out had he still been with us, but I am pleased with the way they turned out. Apologies to those who followed these builds for repeating the photos here, but I wanted to share my efforts with the people who may not venture to the GB pages. Thanks for looking in. 7. This is my entry for KUTA VIII, four 1/144 Tornado's one from each of the countries that operate them. They were started for Merv's memorial GB and whilst a couple were close I failed to complete them by the date. I know that the GB remains open ended to allow further updates, but I want to get them finished off and this will hopefully give me the drive to do that. Two of the entries may be considered a little to advanced and if that is the case then I will gladly refrain from updating those, but here goes. First up is Dragons 1/144 F.3. This is the most advanced of the builds and needs the undercarriage doors and pylons adding, plus some paint touch up before a final varnish. The second model is Revells 1/144 Luftwaffe ECR and this needs tail planes, weapons, undercarriage doors and again a varnish coat Third is an Italian ECR and needs a lot more work than the other two and finally the model that is furthest behind is this, a 1/144 RSAF IDS
  8. On this my second set of builds for the GB, I plan to use the Revell 1/144th kit for examples from Luftwaffe, Italian Airforce and RSAF. As the kits are basically the same I intend to include them as a single topic. If the mods would like me to split the builds then please let me know. The Luftwaffe example is an ECR in the 2011 Tiger Scheme and will be made out of the box For the Italian IDS - ECR I am going to use this kit and for the RSAF IDS I am using a GR1 kit. For the Italian and RSAF aircraft I am going to use decals from the excellent MARK1 book
  9. Hi, After finishing the F-51D Mustang around 10 days ago I've had a small break from starting any new models. After pre-spraying both the Lightning F.2a & Spitfire F mk.22 in a thinned mixture of Humbrol 11 I decided to start the Tornado which has been awaiting the build for a while now, I've used the same mixture with varying pressure on the airbrush (borrowed a small compressor), I sprayed all the sprue's. Here's some of the unboxing & photo's once it had been sprayed: Box: Drop tanks Without & With Paint: Sprue A: Sprue B: Sprue C: Decals to be Used: "A" from this set The underside of the fuselage/wings is going to be sprayed Black tomorrow, and hopefully will get the decal's on before assembling it fully. Thanks for looking & comments welcome.
