My most recent completion, totally exhausted with the effort that went into decaling on this project. First off, the build. Pretty straight forward, fit was okay (but not a patch on Japanese and, more recently, some of the newer Korean engineering). There are quite a number of sink marks in the plastic though - perhaps due to the age of the molds themselves? I didn't worry about these too much as the markings would tend to draw the eye anyway. Almost completely OOB, only aftermarket used were the Master Model pitot tube and AOA sensors. Now the decals. I've heard that these are Cartograf - if so, thank goodness! My kit had an old and yellowed decal sheet. Quite a few were brittle and shattered on application. I suspect that being Cartograf they had some inherent strength which limited the number and severity of breakages. Even so, there were many hours spent playing decal jigsaw on a minute sub-millimetre scale. I ended up using Mr Color Levelling Thinners sprayed through the airbrush as the decal setting agent (after first applying Mr Mark Softer and then Micro Sol!). I restrained myself with regards to the weathering, this is a show-bird after all, but felt some oil streaks and stains on the underside were in order. Anyhoo, enough with my rambling... on with the pics! As always, thanks for looking

I started these last year as part of the STGB Memorial Build for fellow Britmodeller Merv Milliken (Spike7451). I wanted to try and represent each nation that operates the Tornado and was keen to include an F.3 example. I scratch built some of the missing details such as the Secondary Heat Exchanger intake and other bits relevant to the aircraft modelled. Decals for the Luftwaffe ECR and the RAF F.3 are from the kits with some additional stencilling from a Hannants Xtradecal sheet. The Italian and Saudi examples came from Mark1's book of twelve Tornados I didn't get them over the line for that GB, so when the KUTA VIII GB came along at the back end of the year I decided that I would try to complete them for that. That GB finished a couple of weeks ago and here are the finished models. Tornado ECR 2011 Tigermeet - Revell 1/144 Tornado F.3 RAF 56 R Squadron (Firebirds) - Dragon 1/144 Tornado ECR Italian Air Force - Revell 1/144 Tornado IDS Royal Saudi Air Force - Revell 1/144 And finally a shot of all four together I had a lot of fun putting these together and I'm sure that there are lots of things that Merv would have pointed out had he still been with us, but I am pleased with the way they turned out. Apologies to those who followed these builds for repeating the photos here, but I wanted to share my efforts with the people who may not venture to the GB pages. Thanks for looking in. This is my entry for KUTA VIII, four 1/144 Tornado's one from each of the countries that operate them. They were started for Merv's memorial GB and whilst a couple were close I failed to complete them by the date. I know that the GB remains open ended to allow further updates, but I want to get them finished off and this will hopefully give me the drive to do that. Two of the entries may be considered a little to advanced and if that is the case then I will gladly refrain from updating those, but here goes. First up is Dragons 1/144 F.3. This is the most advanced of the builds and needs the undercarriage doors and pylons adding, plus some paint touch up before a final varnish. The second model is Revells 1/144 Luftwaffe ECR and this needs tail planes, weapons, undercarriage doors and again a varnish coat Third is an Italian ECR and needs a lot more work than the other two and finally the model that is furthest behind is this, a 1/144 RSAF IDS

On this my second set of builds for the GB, I plan to use the Revell 1/144th kit for examples from Luftwaffe, Italian Airforce and RSAF. As the kits are basically the same I intend to include them as a single topic. If the mods would like me to split the builds then please let me know. The Luftwaffe example is an ECR in the 2011 Tiger Scheme and will be made out of the box For the Italian IDS - ECR I am going to use this kit and for the RSAF IDS I am using a GR1 kit. For the Italian and RSAF aircraft I am going to use decals from the excellent MARK1 book
