Source of de Havilland emblem in 1/32nd scale
geedubelyer posted a topic in Aircraft InterwarHello all, Would anyone know of a source for the DH emblems in 1/32nd scale please? I will probably require some for the struts of a TigerMoth at some point. I plan on modelling a privately owned example that has varnished wooden struts with the DH emblem as decals. Thanks for any help. Cheers.
Navy miscellaneous types in TSS over yellow
KRK4m posted a topic in Aircraft WWIIAre there any photos known of the Royal Navy miscellaneous types (Oxford, Master, TigerMoth, a.s.o) in TSS over yellow scheme or is Stinson Reliant the only type known to sport such a camouflage? My interest concerns 1939-45 period - also overseas. Cheers Michael
Evening, Unusually for one of my builds I haven't done a WIP. Mostly because I didn't have a decent camera on me, but also because I was enjoying the build so much I didn't want to stall it To start off my DeHavilland Moth collection I chose Airfix's beautiful new Tigger and chose to backdate it to how it was in the 30's. This mostly consisted of painting the reg codes on top and bottom wings. Built to the only two pictures I could find of G-ACDC. The kit is superb, I hope I've done it justice! There's been a lot of discussion about the shade of red, however, I chose to stick with Humbrol 20 Crimson as I think it looks nice I rigged the ENTIRE model, bracing wires, control wires and all! Scratch built the pitot and belts before giving the whole thing a high gloss varnish. Anyway... Just waiting for my 1/72 Frog DH.60G to turn up in the post from Kingkit... should turn up tomorrow seeing as I ordered it last tuesday evening (fingers crossed) I'll do a WIP on the DH.60 as it's going to take a lot to bash it into an acceptable shape! Thanks for looking Ben.
Airfix 72nd scale TigerMoth as G-ANSM
geedubelyer posted a topic in Ready for Inspection - AircraftHi folk, Over the last few weeks I've been slowly working on the new tool Tiger Moth from Airfix in 1/72nd scale. Work has been busy and there has been alot going on in real life so it has been a release to squirrel myself away occasionally and divert my attention to the model. This model depicts the particular aeroplane that I was lucky enough to take a trip in. Consequently I had a few reference photos so I did add a little extra detail to the model. Overall I found the Tiggie to be an enjoyable build. The fit was reasonable for a kit in this price bracket and very little filler was used. I added a few pipes and hoses to the airframe using reference photos as a guide and rigged the model using fishing lines threaded through eyelets of twisted wire. (They are a little large for scale I think). This is a test of patience and I found myself repeating a few old mantras in my mind as I waited for the glue to dry .... lol The open access doors were scratch built using wine bottle foil to give a better scale thickness with stretched sprue glued to the edges. I also added the extra bracing bars to the undercart. The paintwork replicates G-ANSM from when I flew in her, complete with torn walkway strip on the starboard lower wing. All paints are acrylic from the Citadel or Valejo ranges. Light weathering was applied using washes of thinned paint. Like most civvie airframes she is kept pretty clean. Anyhoo, here are the snaps. I hope you like her. A big thanks to everyone who helped with my pleas and in particular to Mark (aka Cheshiretaurus) for his help with the artwork for the markings. Mark was kind enough to draw up the serials which allowed me to make a set of decals. Cheers,
72nd scale black serials for my civvie Tiger Moth
geedubelyer posted a topic in Aircraft InterwarHi folks, What is the best source for black fuselage and wing serial code letters for my 1/72nd scale Tiger Moth please? I'm looking to replicate G-ANSM but don't know the actual size of the lettering used or who produces a suitable decal/paint mask in 72nd scale. Any help is appreciated. Cheers, Guy
Madness, boredom and MS Paint!
wellsprop posted a topic in Aircraft WWIIHi all, Well I've spent my summer holiday (I'm in 6th form so I have a summer holiday ) recovering from an operation so I can't do anything particularly active other than walking. As you can imagine, being a teen, I get bored being sat at home (yes, yes, I know I should be making models!). Anyway... this is the result of my mind wandering into what-ifery... I hope someone finds these at least vaguely interesting First up is a Spitfire Mk I with bubble canopy As well as a Tigermoth fitted with a 345hp Armstrong Siddley Cheetah radial engine. These two are in a previous topic of mine. They are based roughly around Alex Henshaw's idea of moving rear the cockpit on the PR Spits... I'll probably do a couple more tomorrow... Ben.
