Hi, The fourth of planned five Ju 88 build by me within the "Ju 88 STGB II". This a Revell 1/72 kit of A1 variant. Decals from Techmod set 72142 for machine belonging to 5/KG77 based in France during BoB time, so in Sept. 1940. Only one modification of kit done - the wider exhaust pipes corrected by a scratch work. Two more MG were installed in canopy as seen on photo (Many thanks to @Ed Russell for PM-sending of this photo toe me). Here is WIP And result: Comments welcome Regards J-W -
this will be my second build. I’ll be sticking to oob, but it’s a very nice kit and even has a PE fret for the fine details. I’ll post some sprue shots over the weekend.- 28 replies

A couple of years ago I bought Hasegawa’s Spitfire IXc in 1/48 scale (you can’t have too many Spits and for me this is the fourth one). After having got the kit I became aware of the heated discussion concerning the error in the length of the kit's rear fuselage, it being 2 mm too short. Well, despite the flaw I didn’t want to throw in the towel. Instead, I built the kit which was of very good quality and a pleasure to assemble. As far as Spitfires are concerned I think more than everything has already been told countless times by experts on these pages. So, I won’t put my spoon in that Spit soup. My model depicts the fighter of the Polish Fighter Squadron No. 316 named "City of Warsaw" (in Polish, 316 Dywizjon Myśliwski "Warszawski") The fighter NH214 of the squadron code SZ-G was the personal mount of flight commander Aleksander Gabszewicz. The register number of this particular fighter, NH214 is at the rear of the fuselage. In another picture the register code BS433 apperars in a Spit with the same squadron code of SZ-G. Not being familiar with the marking systems of the RAF, is it so that the code SZ-G was in use in multiple Spits of the 316 squadron? When building the model I followed the painting instructions of the kit. Afterwards, I have become doubtful of the right colour of the landing gear leg and the rim. Were they really metal coloured? Additionally, I do not know if I chose the right type of rims for my model. Should they have been spoked instead of the disk type ones I used? Well, anyways here is my model, not too weathered and painted with Xtracolor enamels in the normal three tone camo.. As to the Hasegawa decals were thick and brittle. In the building process I managed to ruin a couple of decals and decided to order the Techmod ones for the same fighter. Another aftermark product I used was Eduard’s photo-etch set for the cockpit. I also cut out the cockpit door and left it opened.

I entered this HobbyBoss Morane Saulnier 406C-1 in the FB Conflict100 Group Build. Porucznik (Lieutenant) Kazimierz Bursztyn flew this plane on May 13th 1940 from Moerbeke (BE) and was damaged somewhere near Etten-Leur (NL). Cheers, Luka -
The DC-9 is one of my favourite airliners. So many classic liveries look smart on that plane type. I've always liked the KLM scheme, whether it be the old stripe tail or the new blue fuselage livery. I built this KLM DC-9-15 from a Fly Models kit with Polish manufactured Techmod decals. They were quite fragile and I had to correct them at various locations. The decals were a tough fight to win. The cockpit window decals I ordered from Authentic Airliners. The kit was quite simple and easy to assemble. I had to modify certain parts and add scratch built details and there was some puttying and sanding to be done. I painted the white upper fuselage with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer that I then covered with Tamiya gloss varnish TS-13. As to the metal colour areas of the plane I primed them first with Tamiya black TS-14. After having let the black cure properly I sprayed the areas with AK Extreme metal aluminium. For the details I also used Vallejo acrylics and Humbrol enamels,

Hello Airfix Hawker Hurricane Mk.I 1:48 P3700 of No. 303 Squadron, Northolt, September 1940. Some photos of my Airfix Hurricane done for the BoB Group Build back in 2015. It never made it into the RFI section until now. I have used a canopy from Hasegawa ( i messed up the kit canopy and Hasegawa slides over the spine !) and decals from Techmod. My first attempt to do chipping with salt which went on not too perfectly but i hope you like it anyway. Paints are Humbrol. Thanks for looking ! -
Hallo This is my next Spitfire. A IXc variant. Quite straight from the box. With some use of some etched parts. Some more ahead. I choose Techmod decals, because this colorful option won my heart. Beside this I had a book about the southern theater of operation. Well, next time a Spitfire again! Happy modelling

My mojo for things japanese was flagging so halfway thru a kit (yet to appear here) I saw this one on the shelf in the man cave and thought why not? This is the 2nd moulding of the 1/72 Airfix Lancaster. The mould itself dates from 1979 with this particular kit a 1983 boxing. Built OOB, it was excellent for its time, accurate, good fit and easy to build, but nowadays we would criticise its lack of internal detail, an almost complete lack of panel lines, and a lack of finesse and sharpness with some of the parts being obvious and not very good approximations of the real thing. Having been in a box doing sterling work as roof insulation for over 30 years unsurprisingly the decals were shot. Their disintegration into a million pieces is easily resolved with decal film but the habitual silvering was not. Gloss varnishing, MicroSol/Set, firmly pressing down, puncturing with a needle after application and filling said punctures with decal setting solution-nothing worked. So I acquired a set of Techmod decals from Hannants for a 300 (Polish) Sqn machine. They worked well but were very thin so curled up at the slightest chance. Techmod also seem to have a problem with British Red as it was much too...well...red when it should be reddish brown. Paints were all brushed Humbrol enamels, 29/116 and a 50:50 mix of 21/29 for Night ( I know Night is supposed to be a very dark blue but that mixture just looks right to me). The camo. pattern was done freehand. Weathering, particularly the exhaust stains, was with Tamiya powders. No aerial wires on this one as, despite my best endeavours, I could not get them to stay in place. I'm also not sure if cable cutters were moulded onto the leading edges of the wings on this mould but whatever, they're not there now. So, after the obligatory box art and instructions shot, the photos. Any comments and criticisms welcome.

While I'm still workiing on my DH.88 Comet, this GB is too important to miss. I'll be using the Airfix 1/48 Hurricane Mk.I Tropical, A05129, as the basis with the RF-F V6684 markings from Techmod Hawker Hurricane Mk.I, 48025. -
Calling this one done. Eduards 1/72 Spitfire Mk IX, OOB apart form the Techmod decals, done with Tamiya and Vallejo acrylics, used some of the wife face powder for desert dust. Done as an Egyptian air force Mk IX as there has been a few of the Israeli Mk IX's from the same sheet done recently. This is the first of Eduard Spitfires I have done so was mostly happy with the result but I would do several thing differently for the next one, single piece wheels and engine cowl for a start. Finished this over on the KUTA X GB, was started over 25 years ago, a little bit of the story can be read in the GB. Only addition to kit parts were Eduard fabric belts. Finished in Vallejo ModelAir colours, Alclad II gloss varnish with Vallejo Matt top varnish. Techmod decals were not the best I've used, very thin but brittle. -
Evening all This is very likely to be my last completed model for 2017 - I've been working on it on and off since August and it crossed the finish line this week. I picked up this classic from Airfix at a model show for a mere £20, and set about building it for a bit of nostalgia and a love for one of WWII's unsung heroes (the Spitfire seems to get all the glory!) I built it more or less out of the box, but did use SAC metal undercarriage legs, an Eduard seatbelt set and aftermarket decals from Techmod. A bit of extra piping was added to the engine, but other than that it's as it comes. It fitted together pretty well - at least better than I was expecting for such an old kit. The wing roots were a little tricky and there was plenty of filler needed here - Archer rivets to the rescue to replace those lost in the filling and sanding process. The worst fitting parts were probably the landing light covers and these took a lot of careful trimming to get them flush with the leading edge. Some of the detail is a little clunky and not up to today's standards, but the surface detail is streets ahead of the Trumpeter offering, with beautiful raised rivets and lovely fabric effect on the rear of the fuselage. Paints were from the Xtracolour enamel range, with the flat cote from Humbrol. Hawker Hurricane MkIc, 306 (Polish) Squadron, RAF Ternhill, November 1940. 1/32nd scale MiG-29G 'Polish Air Force'

I picked up this long out of production single-seat 1/32nd MiG-29A cheap recently, and fancied doing a Polish version so also ordered a set of Decals from Techmod. I built this more or less out of the box, but did close the upper air intakes with plastic card, made some FOD guards for the exhausts and intakes, and added a seat belt set from Eduard, but kept the cockpit closed as it's fairly basic for this scale. Paints were from Xtracolour with varnish coming from Humbrol. I thought about coating it in gloss, as the Polish MiG-29s are very shiny and clean, but decided to do more of a satin coat for a better scale effect. The Revell kit is actually a MiG-29A version, but after doing a little research the differences between that and the G version very mainly internal so I could get away with it without too many problems. MiG-29G, Polish Air Force, 41st Tactical Fighter Squadron, Baltic Air Policing, 2012. With the new Trumpeter kit hitting the shelves, no doubt a few more of these will be sold off - hopefully I can snap another one up at some point. Tom -
#23/2016 The first of two new opponents is finished. Hasegawa kit with Techmod decals, Gunze and Tamiya acrylics except Azure from Model Master, Eduard seatbelts. The model shows an a/c of the Royal Egyptian Airforce that participated in the Arab-Israel war and was captured by Israeli troops in December 1948. -
#4/2016 In autumn 1944 a Hungarian fighterbomber group, the 102nd, was built up with former Ju87 and Ju88 pilots, filling two squadrons. In total they received about 78 used and new Fw190, mostly F-8 but also a few F-4 and G-8. It wasn´t easy for the pilots to transfer from the slow Stuka to the potent 190, so besides battle losses they also lost a/c and pilots in accidents. Nevertheless the Hungarian pilots had some success against the advancing Red Army but had to retreat more and more to the west. On March 27th 1945 the 102nd entered Austrian territory and was stationed in the area of Wiener Neustadt and flew sorties in the Vienna and St. Pölten area. On April 10th the flew their last combat sortie and retreated with the last 7 remaining aircraft to Upper-Austria where these a/c were destroyed on the ground on April 16-17th by strafing USAAF a/c. The Hungarian personal and their families then marched on foot to Pocking/Bavaria where they became POWs of the US Army. Hasegawa kit with Techmod decals, painted with Gunze and Tamiya acrylics, aerials with EZ Line. Model shows an a/c of 102/2 fighterbomber squadron. The book "Hungarian Fighter Colours" by Denes Bernad and György Punka was used as reference. and the whole MKHL gang together
