  1. Hi folks. The last of the year! Quite a classic but different from the previous one shown here. I have used the beautiful Aires cockpit but when I did check the stance of the plane, obviously some weight was missing! Fuselage was complete and there was no opening to slide more lead! Then I cut open the guns muzzles, put more lead and glue back everything, putty, sanding etc. Modeling misery at its best! The weak point of the kit is the rather poor wheels bays, the Aires one are great improvements. Using German modeler Andréas Dunda article from HS, I made the exhausts of the warm air on the wings and on the tail. Shorter spinner and broader props blades are from SBS but they do require a lot of surgery. Wheels are from Eduard, great value. I also had a hard time fixing the antennas correctly and only at the end of the photo session did I notice the misalignment of the one in the down left. The last pic shows the antenna back to its proper place. No decals but masks, with the typical "reverse mottling" of RLM76 over RLM75. Best regards to you all! I am adding new pics with the antennas at the correct angle but also to show the details of the warm air exit on the wings and at the tail. Open canopy shows that the Revi box and its refecting glass for the Schräge Muzic are here and that there are no shouldr belts for the radio/radar operator. Cheers to you all. 42E0206B-7FE8-44A4-8F2E-30C3EACD4869_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr A2E1F3A4-A8C6-43B1-BEE3-CAA647C9ABE1_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr 44924335-3EB7-4037-90EF-42D994825786_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr B171AC4B-A809-4189-8B4D-BDA68176E593_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr CDA57EA5-E2F4-4314-8C3E-4CA16A2F7EEE_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr A4F353CC-A67F-413A-A706-D987657D89B8_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr 3E562572-EA8F-499F-8705-B8E60A6BC3E3_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr D9B50623-B99B-40D4-9E9E-164577A26FD5_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr DE7263B2-F2F4-4FA2-960D-FD08DBFD812C_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr 724311FA-475B-4B59-8A48-D920F9EC400C_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr EAC16067-9D05-4590-9C13-8CCD13F995FE_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr D039ED32-767B-435A-92D0-8B7704AB1FF2_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr 13B19314-0931-4B5E-B33A-40EED59753FE_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr F7E3ACAB-F297-4283-BF49-380D75D6F46E_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr A2D1850C-574A-4C19-9C7E-0D14CCC6FAF4_1_201_a by jean Barby, sur Flickr
  2. Continuing my German Nightfighter exploration, here is another one from the past, built nearly OTB, only after market used being the great Master antennas. This model was built on commission and it was my first attempt at the reverse mottling scheme used on the German night figthers. Montex masks were used for the insignas. Despite some mistakes the Tamiya's "Uhu"is still a great kit to do and with the help of the Valiant book you can bring the details to another level. Plane is from the 3/NJG 1 based at Grave in 45. Cheers. 3. Hi Everyone This is the Tamiya 1/48 Mitsubishi Ki-46 Dinah which has been lurking unfinished for ages and collecting dust. I finally decided to give it the extra push and consider it to be finished now. Hope you enjoy and thanks for looking. Trace
  4. This is my latest attempt, it is the Tamiya IIIN converted via the Belcher Bits conversion set to an early model. The set was a joy to work with all errors are mine. Just waiting to buy a commander figure, probably at Huddesfield in February. Thanks for looking.
  5. My latest AFV is the lovely Tamiya 1/48th Humber. As always the fit is excellent but the marking choice is very limited. Mine is a machine of the 49th Reconnaissance Regiment in Northern Europe in 1045 and the markings were hand painted. I used some Red Zebra stowage and the commander is from the Tamiya Dingo. Thank you for looking
  6. I've been on a bit of a roll with these beautiful little Tamiya kits. The enginering is fantastic. There are a few passenger figures which are in the process of being modified to add but this is the finished vehicle and gun.
  7. Just finished today the lovely litttle Tamiya GAZ Truck with some extra clutter. The camera flash is a bit harsh and makes some of the paintwork a bit glossy. Comments, as always, welcome
  8. This is the beautiful Tamiya Beaufighter. It is built straight from the box. Tamiya acrylics used throughout. image ru how to take a screen shot upload pic free photo hosting image upload no compression upload picture imgurl upload gif photo storage Thanks for looking
  9. With a couple of weeks to go, I'd better get my skates on! The history bit My entry in this Group Build will be the Fieseler Storch (Fi 156). However, it is not your ordinary Storch, normally used by the Luftwaffe as a reconnaissance plane and artillery spotter, or as a VIP transport for German Generals/Field Marshalls such as Rommel or Kesselring. The one I will be modelling was captured by the British in the Western Desert in 1943, and was then "adopted" as his personal plane by Air Vice Marshal Harry Broadhurst, a former Battle of Britain ace, who was senior air staff officer to the commander of the Desert Air Force. Broadhurst went on from the Desert back to the UK and was involved in the preparations for Operation Overlord, where he was commander of 83 Group. Broadhurst piloted Winston Churchill over to Normandy six weeks after the D-Day landings for a morale-boosting visit to the troops. They landed at Sainte Croix sur Mer airfield, which was a temporary airfield that had been constructed after the landings by the Royal Engineers. It was known as RAF 'B3 ALG' (Advanced Landing Ground), and was only 3.5 kms from the "Gold" landing beach. In doing so, Churchill was the first wartime leader to visit "liberated" France, well before de Gaulle, and some weeks before Eisenhower himself managed to come ashore. Luckily, some photographs exist of Churchill's visit, and of Broadhurst's plane, so I could not pass up the chance to build something rather unusual for this group build – a German plane, but one in rather unexpected markings. Here are two photos that I have found on the 'net (reproduced here for educational purposes only, as they say.....) (That's Broadhurst on the right). The kit The kit in this case is the rather iconic Tamiya 100th kit in 1/48th, which was issued a couple of years ago and has lain in my stash since then. Here is the box top lid and underside:- There are quite a few sprues in the kit, some of which will not be used (as they have figures of Rommel and a pilot, as well as barrels and other things for a desert diorama. Since I am not going to be in the desert, and will have somebody rather more portly.. for which (AFAIK) no suitable figures in 1/48 exist....well, let's just say that the aircraft to be modelled represents the plane, on the ground In Normandy, while Churchill and his pilot were in the mess tent!) What makes this kit quite iconic is the way in which Tamiya has managed to combine normal and clear plastic in single moulds, for the fuselage halves:- Also Tamiya included some metal, to do the wing spars and the undercarriage pylons, as well as a bit of PE. Could be fun getting these to fit! There are also some masks provided for the large greenhouse of a canopy - though you do have to cut them out yourself:- The other sprues, just for the record, are here:- (A couple of alternative canopies - more for the spares box) (note the well moulded fabric stitching along the bottom of the fuselage here) .... and the two sprues that will be going into the spares box:- The references Apart from what I have learned from the internet (much of which is reproduced above), I have some references, including the Mark 1 "Dozen Set" book, which includes decals for this very aircraft. I intend making a start on this tomorrow, and hope to have it finished by the end of the month. Thanks for looking! Philip
  10. This my latest attempt, it is the Tamiya Crusader AA tank. I'm still trying out different types of weathering but I'm not sure I'm getting it it right. It is a very different skill compared to the aircraft I'm used to. It is finished as a machine of the Polish Armour Brigade post D-Day. As such I tried for a dusty dirty machine but not one overly muddied up. Thanks for looking
  11. This is my latest attempt at armour, it is the lovely Tamiya 1/48th scale Marder III weathered to try to replicate a worn winter camouflaged machine in the mud of the spring thaw. I used a lot of Airfix weathering powders and washes to get the look I wanted. the figure is a Dartmoor Military Models metal casting. He comes with a chap carrying a jerrycan and I plan to put him and the Marder onto a little base when I can find a suitable piece of wood. Thanks for looking
  12. The last time I built a 48th scale tank it was by Bandai and had full interior detail and it was a long time ago! Tamiya's offering is a nice little kit, the diecast chassis is a bit gimmicky, but it all fits together well, especially the link and length tracks. The Porsche turreted Tigers had Zimmeritt applied so to replicate this I used my pyrogravure. I had to add a piece of plastic card to the lower front glacis as this was diecast metal on the kit. Paints used are all Humbrol enamels. forum image hosting image hoster image hosting 10mb limit free adult image hosting image hosting over 5mb image hosting over 2mb free photo hosting Thanks for looking
  13. I meant this to be an exercise in using some new weathering toools rather than a serious attempt but I was quite pleased in the end. I reckon even a staff car would get filthy in the mud and rain of the Eastern front. I know I overdid it on the windows but otherwise I'm converted to the new Airfix weathing washes and powders Comments/critiques very welcome
  14. Apart from the aerial wires, this kit is straight from the box, nothing added. I used Humbrol enamels to paint her. My sister bought this for me to build as she likes Spitfires, and wants one. windows screenshot program image upload with preview free screen capture software free screenshot software how to take screenshots image sharing images Thanks for looking.
  15. Hiya Folks, Here is my Tamiya Beaufighter built as a Malta based Mk.VI,`ve added the bombs and bomb racks from a Tamiya Swordfish and the rear `stinger' gun is an Aeroclub Vickers K Gun fitted into the standard bubble which has been sawn down as per the originals; Cheers Tony O
