  1. Yuletide felicitations to you all (if it's not too late for that sort of thing)! I suppose I should start by apologising to all the regular residents of this forum for cluttering it up with what is basically a toy but in fairness, I think we can agree that it's all @The Spadgent's fault since it is he who has already posted 3 RC builds here, here, and here. Now the subject matter was something which I had little interest in but I'll read pretty much anything Johnny writes in the hope that some of his vast modelling skill will rub off on me by some sort of internetty osmosis. The builds were, as ever, highly entertaining and I liked the combination of construction and engineering. Then I thought no more on radio controlled vehicles. Fast forward to the week before Christmas when Mrs. Dinmont, despairing as ever over what to buy the man who has every gadget you can think of and has no interest in clothes (something which anyone who has met me in real life will instantly confirm) dispatched me to the local modelling emporium, Time Tunnel Models (based on the site of historic Drem Airfield WW2 aviation buffs!) to buy my own present. I toddled off with no though other than adding to the large pile of unbuilt aircraft models I possess but on entering the establishment, my eye fell on their wide range of Tamiya RC cars and I remembered Johnny's builds. I reasoned thus: "I've just treated Mrs. D. to double glazing and a new gas boiler, isn't it my turn?" (fortunately for me, Mrs. D. is not a Britmodeller regular reader). Despite it being one of their busiest days of the year with dozens of parcels to be dispatched to tardy shoppers, the staff could not have been more helpful in answering my newbie questions with the result that some time later, I emerged into the fading daylight with this lot: Having some spare time on my hands (unless Mrs. D. decides otherwise) I hope to get this lot together over the next few days and record my adventures here. Hopefully, anyone thinking of dipping their toes into the world of RC cars will learn something from my inevitable mistakes. Any helpful suggestions very welcome! Craig.
  2. Welcome part 3 in my RC modelling series. 😉 I bring you Tamiya’s Lunch Box in 1/12 scale. I hadn’t planned on building this yet as I have an aeroplane on the go but last week I decided amid buying some upgrades I’d try and 3D model and print some of my own upgraded parts. Now what’s the point printing the parts if I can’t test them out you ask? Well here we are and that’s why I’m here. 🤪😍😇. I hope you’ll enjoy this. It won’t take long and I’m sure it’ll stirr up some old school RC memories for some. The Midnight Pumpkin was my second of two RC cars I had as a kid. A friend of mine (sadly no longer with us) had the lunch box and I was always a little jealous of the BIG yellow beast. I shall dedicate this build to lost friends and good memories. Let’s begin.🙃 The box. Oooooh look at that! I can hear Cindi Lauper and Duran Duran already. Thanks for joining in. All comments welcomed. Johnny. 🤩
  3. Morning and welcome to my latest finished build. The Frog by Tamiya 1/10 I’ve had a blast building this and yes she will be a runner like all of my cars. I say all. Both. 🤣 Once again bringing me a huge sense of nostalgia from back in the 80s. Here’s the WIP Well here she is. No guts No glory. 🐸❤️ Hope you like her. All the best and Happy Modelling. Johnny.
  4. Welcome to my second RC build in so many years. 😀 The Frog 🐸 by Tamiya 1/10. Back in 2021 I built the Wild Williy2 my first RC car in thirty or so years. Here’s the build if you’re interested. It was great fun to make and I enjoy taking it out on fair weather days. (Just built a ramp as it happens) Definitely not a shelf queen. 😜 Last year I had a few drinks while I was on holiday in Dartmouth and ended up with this waiting for me when I came home. 🤦‍♂️ Fast forward about eight months and it’s still in the box accompanied by a friend. Another childhood dream I managed to snag for my birthday last month. 💙 Now fast forward to last night sitting in my warm back garden.. Two rums and a couple of halves of ale down I have a Subaru Brat in my basket. 😳…. I had a quiet word with myself 😂 and have told me that if I don’t build these I can’t have any more. So as I’m nearing the end of my NMCZ group build I find my bench clear. I know it’s not your regular thing to find on BritModeller but I had a great time with the first one so I invite you along for the ride with the Frog should you so wish. Pull up an 80s style bean bag, pop Prefab Sprout on the tape to tape and enjoy the fun! Johnny. 🐸
  5. Good afternoon I trust you're all having a splendid weekend. Here is the RFI for my Wild Will 2 that I completed last year. He has got a little knocked about here and there as I did quite a bit of scooting around during the summer months but it all part of the charm. Here is the WIP. Here are the shots. I hope you enjoy them and any comments are welcome. And there you go. I wanted to catch the charm of what I had my heart set on back in the 80s. I think I managed it. You can just have these flat coated but I really wanted something more. I hope you like what I came up with. Take care and as always. Happy Modelling. Johnny.
  6. Tamiya Wild Willy2 RC 1/10 Scale. It’s been 36 years since The 10 year old me drooled over the Tamiya catalogue dreaming about owning a Wild Willy, the most fun RC car ever. Over the past few years I have indulged myself in our beautiful hobby trying to recreate images I saw as a kid in those oh so wonderful catalogues. Building mostly aircraft but some cars and tanks, sometimes even a robotic suit thing has given me great pleasure and sharing on BM has re kindled a long lost hobby. After a recent lucky windfall from work I took the opportunity to treat myself to a childhood dream, something that was way out of reach for the 10 year old me. After a month wait it arrived pretty much on my birthday. 🥳 Sorry if this is out of place but I love to share my builds and I hope you’ll indulge me as I’m planning on doing some sweet paint action on this beautiful beast. I can’t imagine it’ll take long to build and I hope if you do follow along you’ll find it interesting. Let the fun begin! Johnny. 🤩
