  1. Hello! This is my first finished project this year, the very well known and praised Tamiya P-47 1/48 kit. Nothing to add, really, a superb kit. Only some small stencils did not behave well and…disintegrated. C’est la vie! Since these especific birds didn’t operate for too long, war ending in Europe was months away, I kept the weathering at a minimum, just some dirt from the airfields, but not too many scratches and chipping… Canopy masks from Eduard, guns from Model Masters and seat belts from scratch. Hope you enjoy! Cheers
  2. Alright, joining this GB!! This is my third one - and maybe I'll finish before the end with two months to work in! At least I won't be cutting up the fuselage with this one! Starting with Tamiya's bubble-top Thunderbolt. If it even slightly similar to their Razorback kit then it should flow together like magic.😉 Obligatory box top and spru shots. As well as the PE and resin engine, I'm awaiting some after market decals to show, which hopefully won't be too long in the delivery, and I'm going to add some piping to the wheel bays For now, I think I'll start with the cockpit for a change of pace...
  3. So, after some searching back and forth among my kit stash, I've decided the next kit to build will be an Axis aircraft. This being Tamiya's 1/48 Ki46 III, command recon plane. I have to say that it is a beautiful airplane. I love the way the cockpit glass extends almost all the way to the nose, stretches back along the hump in the fuselage and ends at that gorgeous tail! Couple that with some nice big nacelles and you one have one sexy bird! A bird that needs a lot of paint! There are more than twenty paint call outs, which was a lot more that I had on hand, so it took some time before I could make a hobby shop run to get my preferred Tamiya paints. In the meantime, I started on the easy bits, such as the wheels and drop tank. And the wheel bays. Sadly, even though this is an older kit, no one has yet to do a resin wheel bay set. And I think it could use it. Rather than molding the walls and floors separately, Tamiya did them straight down the middle, which results in an unsightly seem. Not so hard to get rid of on the flat surfaces, but it also goes into the wheel well itself which would be a beeotch to sand! So for that I'm applying and then wiping away several applications of Mr. Dissolved Putty to blend it away. They'll require a little more work, such as hydraulic lines and such. A question about them to my fellow glue-fume junkies though... That is it for the supplied wheel bay parts. There are no front or rear bulkheads, so when placed into the wing, you can see the inner blank area behind the engine and back into the empty flap area of the wings. The question is, were these open on the actual aircraft, or were there front and rear bulkheads for the gear bay? I can easily use blank styrene to close them up or put misc detail for the engine firewall, just in case someone looks up into there. So, which should it be?
  4. Hi guys, here is my latest build, a US Spit Mk V based in Corsica in 1944. I really enoyed to build this Tamiya kit. Comments are welcomed. Cheers, Manu.
  5. Hi Currently working on this, it's going to be in the initial delivery scheme of bronze green, I have used some bits off the eduard etched set and added some parts that Tamiya haven't included or missed off. References used are internet photos, Wheels and Tracks number 9, SAS panthers in detail , the vehicle handbook and info from Roger Jones. The darker pink bits are from the italeri kit which is not much good for the Marshalls version but I will try to build the unit modified version from it. Next time I'll leave the wheels off before painting. Only another 12 or so to go as I'm working through its period of service. Gary
  6. Hello Folks, I`ve been trundling along with the assembly line at home and the latest batch of models are just coming to fruition, the first of which is this 1/72nd scale Tamiya Spitfire Mk.Vb finished as one of 249 Sqn`s earliest Spitfires circa March-April 1942. The desert colour scheme was modified by applying Extra Dark Sea Grey over the Middle Stone while the Dark Earth and Sky Blue were retained. The unit applied the unit codes in white and this was also used to re apply the serial. Anyway here is the model, the canopy hood was replaced by a vacuformed item but the cannons are pieces of sprue as the kit ones snapped off; I chose the individual code `E' as this was applied to the wheel of the starter trolley alongside the real aircraft in reference photos, although I believe that `H' has also been associated with this aircraft, Whatever the case I hope you like it, Cheers Tony O
