This is the kit. And this is the scheme I’m going to do. BOAC operated a number of PR.Mk IV and VI between Scotland and Sweden during the war. They were specially modified to take a single passenger in the bomb bay, but externally identical to a regular Mosquito. They were civilian registered and the letters were underlined in red white and blue to emphasise their civilian nature. One of the many and fascinating applications of the Mosquito and an extremely interesting part of its history.- 23 replies

Hi all - here's my latest project - Tamiya's Ilyushin Il-2 Sturmovik in 1:72 scale. Build out of box in in the Soviet 1945 scheme - only aftermarket was some Eduard canopy masks, which made a huge difference to the finished product. Brush painted in mix of Vallejo and Revell acrylics. Overall a beautiful kit with lots of nice touches that make the modeller's life easier. Minimal filler required. Took me about 2 months, which is very quick for me - and that included about 2 weeks of waiting for canopy masks to be delivered, and a repaint of the grey which was initially too light. Only thing to note would be that the instructions require you to add the landing gear very early in the build - but I don't think there's any way round it. Enjoy! -
Hi all, this build has been a long time in the making. I had intended for it to be a relatively quick and stress-free build but it ended up being a slog at times and sat unfinished for a while. The kit is the 1/48 Tamiya Mk.X and was a breeze to put together, it's a great kit. The decals are the Avalon IAF Beaufighter set and caused me some issues, they were quite thin and the Star of David in the centre of the roundel ended up semi-transparent so the paint job can be seen underneath. Furthermore I can't actually verify that any of the Israeli Beaufighters actually wore RAF day colours but the option was there and I had the Ammo paint set on hand so went for it. The decals combined with a few silly mistakes on my end like using the wrong tail and ballsing up the camouflage scheme in places meant it sat in a box for a while untouched but I decided to just use it as weathering practice and managed to get it looking somewhat presentable so here it is: Thanks for looking in!- 4 replies

Just a place marker until I decide on the final victim. I've narrowed it down to a choice from 3, the Brabham, the Tyrrell or the Renault as the Bentley has gone and the other 2 wouldn't be completed in the GB timescale as I have the full detail sets for both. My current feeling is for the Renault RE20 as it was a car I remember well from it's day, either winning or blowing up Plus it is nice and colourful I need to make the choice next couple of days so I can get the paint ordered, then I'll change title Looking forward to this one hugely Ian

Picked the old Tamiya Universal Carrier up for A$5 at the recent local model expo. Perfect as a quick build to work on my painting and weathering. Brush painted with Vallejo and Tamiya Acrylics and finished with 1 Armoured Division markings straight out of the box. A little extra stowage added from the spares box. Figures donated by a Miniart Valentine kit. Build log can be found here: Off overseas for a little vacation for next couple of weeks, so hope everyone keeps safe and I’ll catch up when I get back. I'm excited for this one! I've dreamt about building a Mosquito for a long, long time. Here's what I plan to do, a modified Mk 25 owned by World Wide Airways in Canada and marked up to race in the 1948 Bendix Air Race. The kit: And these decals and a can of Humbrol--hard to get Humbrol enamels nowadays in Canada, so I ordered this one special! The only photo of this plane that I'm aware of is on the cover of a book called "Mosquito Racer" by the owner/pilot Don McVicar.

Hi all. Here's my latest completion, their VERY nice 1/48th Tamiya P-48F Lightning. The model represents White 33 from the USAAF serving with the 39th Fighter Squadron, 35th Fighter Group, 5th Airforce while operating in Port Moresby during 1944. The scheme is one of the options supplied in the box. I created paint masks for the insignia and White 33 on the nose and tail so I could paint them. I would liked to have made them for the shark mouths on the cowls but time was against me as I had to have it completed by last weekend (19/ 20 August) for our state competition. The stencils are from the kit. The embellishments are by way of a 3D Look panel, resin superchargers and etch seatbelts; all from Eduard. The wheels and tires are from DEF models. The top surface is rivetted so I could get some of the nice wear and tear around the rivet heads can be seen on P-38's and the colours are various darkened and lightened shades of OD/NG from Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. All of it over a silver base. I wet sanded the areas around the canopy to get the worn away silver look. I had applied hairspray but I wasn't getting the results I wanted so tried the wet sanding method. The final weathering once markings was applied was with a variety of oils and washes applied in small amounts but gradually layered to achieve the worn OD look. The underside received a similar treatment. The antennae wire is elastic thread. I'm really happy with the final result. I'd recommend getting yourself one, if only to enjoy the wonderful engineering and fit of the kit. Cheers, Mick

Hi everyone I’d like to join in the fun with a Mosquito NF36 in 1/48 scale. The aircraft in question being RL147 of 85 squadron based at West Malling in 1951. I’ll be using Tamiyas NF XIII/XVII kit as the base. To upgrade it to the later model I’ll be using the Pangolin two stage Merlin’s, produced by a fellow Britmodeller I believe. I’ve pinched a set of the correct louvred exhausts from an old Airfix NF XXX kit. In the cockpit I’ll need to build to build an AI Mk X radar set from scratch but that shouldn’t be to much of an issue as I’ve some decent photos. I have various books for reference including the Modellers Datafile for the smaller differences. The only part I haven’t figured out yet is the canopy. The NF36 had the standard fighter canopy but with a blown panel on the wireless operators side. Paragon used to make a vac form one of these but it’s long gone now so some head scratching needs to be done there. Hi, For this GB I will be building the Tamiya 1/48 M20 Armoured Utility Car. I'm planning a winter wash and will be adding figures and a base. Late December 1944. The M20 was derived from the Ford made M8 Greyhound armoured car. The turret was removed and replaced with an armoured super structure & anti-aircraft ring mount for a 0.50 cal M2 heavy machine gun. It had a top speed of 55mph and was widely used for reconnaissance work and as a forward command vehicle. 3,680 were made. It was originally named M10 but to avoid confusion with the tank destroyer it was redesignated as M20. Hi all My latest and best to date AFV-Tamiya's 1/48 Jadgpanther. Really pleased with how this turned out and it took me a few months of effort! So no excuses of pretty much copying Nightshift's and using his videos as step by step guides (and by writing it's not an excuse means that I'm not using it as an excuse ). So the zimmerit is as per Nightshift, using the Tamiya epoxy putty and cocktail stick approach, although mine's nowhere near as neat! I used the Hauler PE set to boost it a little, some left over metal tracks from my Panther build for the spares and a metal barrel. The camo branches are just seafoam flocked with crushed foam and grinded mixed herbs. Its not quite finished as the commander is still unpainted on the bench but my mind has now turned to the vignette base, which is the fun bit. Going for a bocage scene just before the 3 jagdpanthers from 654 schwere Panzerjäger-Abteilung ambushed the Scots Guards Churchills during Operation Bluecoat. No doubt that will take another few months! And a WiP of an apple tree in the orchard where it will eventually lurk. First attempt at a wire tree but pretty pleased although need to go over some of the bark again to hide the wire twists better. I am an airplane builder who seems to find himself building more and more armour (and enjoying it). Wasn’t originally planning to join this GB but as I don’t yet have a grey finished vehicle in the collection, I thought I would use this opportunity to address this with Tamiya’s 2019 1/35 38(t). I am planning this as a straight forward out of the box build. Not sure when I will start as I still have a Crusader, Corsair II and a Dragon Rapide to finish.

PM-M Built a couple of years ago. Made it so that Engines #1 & #2 had removable cowlings by making the Merlin exhaust stacks removable. Now that I am using Imgur with some success Links BCC. Thought i'd share these images:

So this will be Tamiya's 72nd scale F4U-1D, based somewhat on the artwork below. I've drawn up decals and sent them out to the printers last Thursday, so couple weeks for sure before I'll have them physically. The tail marking is about the only one I did not change, well almost. Made the white and blue equal widths, but for the rest: 1. - underwing roundel will have lighter surround representing fresh paint, or possibly showing a little difference between American and British Sky Grey 2. - original artwork has a red Indian chief's head, but I could not find any references about this. So will not incorporate this, but in it's place will add the chalked warning "GUNS LOADED" 3. - going with slightly larger fuselage code letters (20 inches) based on studying the well known photos of a pranged Corsair (see image below) 4. - more visible original roundel of 36 inches, with a smaller white portion 5. - smaller serial, adjusted to what should be 4 inches height Photos of plastic to follow ... regards, Jack

Shadowing the Eduard Bf 109 F on the construction table was this Tamiya 109 G-14. This bird was surrendered at Neubiberg on May 8, 1945. It was apparently originally with JG 53 but taken over by JG 52 as evidenced by the painted over "Pik As" (Ace of Spades) emblem on the nose. The Tamiya kit holds pride of place for the G-6 variant in 1/72, at least for the moment. We will have to see what Eduard does with their effort in a few months. This is another of the Neubiberg 109s on my sheet. There was a variety of variants represented there, including G-14s, G-10s (including the Erla version) and K-4s in both German and Hungarian markings. I didn't take many photos during construction so these will have to suffice. Actually this is a minor conversion with the tall tail and additional small compressor bump on the starboard side. These were taken from an AZ 109 G-14 kit. Also added was the quad bomb rack from an ICM E-7 kit. I made two strips that were placed between the bombs for .005" card. The Erla Haube is a Rob Taurus vac item. This was a very enjoyable build, largely thanks to the excellent Tamiya kit. Does anyone know of a mask set specifically for the new 1/72 Tamiya F-35A - RAM tapes? Or would I just paint it all one colour if I'm doing one of the Lakenheath aircraft? If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be most appreciated thanks. Martin

Not sure if any one has any tips. Second of two Tamiya kits that I have broken the front body pillar. Does any one has a way worked our of supporting this whilst cleaning and scribing before assembly? -
Dear all I remember building this kit as a kid way back in the 60's. Can't remember the kit manufacturer though. I've looked on Tamiya's website (they are only listing Japanese aircraft carriers) and Scalemates, to find out what paints are required, but no luck. Cannot find it on here either. If anyone has built this particular kit, could they let me know the required paints as printed in the instructions. Thanks in advance.

It`s an old Tamiya kit with Aber`s muzzle and Eduard`s PE set. Painted with Tamiya, Mr.Color, weathered with Mig`s stuff mostly. My first AFV model and I`m sure not the last - It`s been sooo much fun. I hope Sherman purists will spare me for all the mistakes I`ve made. The commander`s figure will be repainted - I`m not happy with the result. I`m also planning to make a base for it.

Having joined the forum recently, I've found myself getting quite into this GB lark! I could have gone with the new tool Airfix Mosquito but, many years ago, I had a 1/48 Tamiya one that I never finished (it got knocked around a bit in multiple house moves as a teenager then a student) so I decided to go with the nostalgia factor. However, I've not got as much space as I used to (family will insist on having room for their own things) so I went with the 1/72 version this time around. I'm planning on a few after market parts for this - so far I've only got one of the Black Dog resin sets (cannons, flaps and bomb bays), but I'm seriously considering the Aires machine gun bay and cockpit sets. I'll most likely go with the clichéd EG-T codes but, like I say, this is a bit of a nostalgia build, and I've already got a Coastal Command Beaufighter in the stash and I'm trying to maintain some variety! Looks as though I need to get a Hannants order in before I can do the cockpit, but I should be able to crack on with the nacelles. I'm also wondering if I can find a matching pair of 500lb GP bombs somewhere to fit into the bomb bay...
