  1. Good evening all, On the way in the mail is the old Matchbox Stranraer, a kit that I plan to scratch a healthy amount of interior detail for, similar in nature to the stunning job done by @Vulcanicity. While I plan to follow his build for interior reference, I'm also looking for any interior photo's I can get, particularly of the middle gunners section, the navigation section, and the cockpit itself. Additionally, I have a question as to the appearance of pods underneath the wings of some Stranraers as seen below. Are these supply pods? Podded liferafts? Any info would
  2. Good evening all, Today I have the early stages of Matchbox's 1//72 Supermarine Stranraer, which has turned out to be a far larger model than I had expected it to be. Following the build of (and information from) @Vulcanicity, I have scratched some interior detail, though my final result will be slightly less impressive. Ultimately, I hope to add depth charges under the wings, new engines (and maybe new cowlings), new machine guns (Brownings, instead of Lewis Guns) and I have the Thunderbird models mask set ready to use. Here is what I have so far:
  3. Howdy all, I'm a fairly recent addition to Britmodeller so thought I'd introduce myself and the company and maybe find out how much interest there is in obscure Canadian civil aircraft at the same time! My name is Andy, I've been an avid modeller and aviation nut pretty much all my life and that seems to only get worse (or better, depending on your point of view) as life goes on. I was born in the UK but grew up in Canada, mostly on the West Coast. My stepfather owned a small charter company, flying up and down the rugged terrain of British Columbia and landing on rough airstrips hacked out
  4. Dear All, Thanks for the positive comments about the Sunderland Flying boat. They were very encouraging for a newbie like myself. Below are a few images of my last effort to build the Revell 1/72 scale Supermarine Stranraer which is a strange and ugly looking beast when you consider that it was designed by the same person who designed the beautiful Spitfire. It was not popular with the pilots who flew it hence a nasty nickname which was the "Whistling PoopHouse" except not using the word poop but the one which starts SH and ends in T. I got my wrists slapped for using the historically accurat
  5. I am pleased to announce Thunderbird Models range of decals are now available from the Freightdog website. These are beautifully screen printed by Fantasy Printshop, based on artwork originally available from Whiskey Jack Decals (as ALPS sheets). First one in covers Queen Charlotte Airlines Stranraers (including CF-BXO which is now on display at RAF Hendon), second release due soon is for Canadian air racing Spitfire Mk.XIVe CF-GMZ. Thanks Colin http://www.freightdogmodels.co.uk
  6. I've finally got round to finishing this, a bit of a self KUTA. It was started last year but in an attempt to get the top wing to sit on all the struts, I kinda melted it by being over zelous with a hair dryer so it went on the shelf of doom until this year. I picked up another kit and went about the top wing differently to avoid making a same mistake twice, something which I'm quite adept at !!! Anyway, apart from the engines which are CMK resin ones, the kit is OOB. This was my first attempt at using Alclad2 (polished aluminium over grey primer) which is great stuff, but I ran out before sp
