  1. When Italy joined NATO in 1949 she was still flying sleek and shiny Spitfires. As part of my "Spitfires-by-the-Seas" project, in which I am building a pair of Spitfires in the markings of countries bordering five seas, I will build an Italian Mk IXc as part of my "Ionian Sea" pair for this GB.
  2. "Spitfires-by-the-seas" is a project I am undertaking in which I will build five pairs of 1/72 Spitfires in the markings of nations that border the same sea. So far I have built a representative of the Baltic Sea (Swedish S. 31) . . . . . . Andaman Sea (Thai Pr XIX ) . . . . . . and the Mediterranean (Syrian Mk F 22). I want to finish up the Mediterranean pair as part of this GB with an Israeli Mk. IXe from 1955 using the Eduard kit.
  3. I have several large projects on the go (Hawker Hurricanes around the world; Last Legs Ponies; Minor Gustavs; Sexy American Singles in South American Service), but this one has been in my head for some time and, in fact, already underway! I want to introduce it formally now. "Spitfires-by-the-Seas" will involve building a pair of Spitfires in the markings of countries bordering five seas (so ten Spitfires total): Baltic Sea North Sea Andaman Sea Ionian Sea Mediterranean Sea Two of these are already completed: a Swedish S 31 (PR XIX) half of the Baltic Sea pair. WIP here: And a Thai PR XIX, which is half of the Andaman Sea pair. WIP here: I'm going to be building a Syrian Mk F 22 as part of the "I Feel Deserted" GB, which is why I decided it was about time to introduce my project! Stay tuned for more to come!
  4. As part of my Spitfires-by-the-Seas project I will join this GB to build a Spitfire F Mk 22. I will use the Airfix kit. And TigerHead decals have my Syrian markings. In terms of desert camo, I'll be using the photo below as inspiration for a scheme that I believe is something like Dark Earth/Middle Stone over Azure Blue. Eduard did a profile which I think is likely a good representation of what I want to do:
  5. I built a 1/72 Airfix Spitfire PR XIX in Swedish markings a couple of months ago . . . . . . but I saved another of these kits for this GB. I'll be building her in Thai air force markings; I picked up the decals from Jays. Here is the original.
  6. Over the last few weeks I have been focused on finishing my build for the P-38 STGB, a Nicaragua Lightning as part of my "Last Legs Ponies" project, modeling American World War 2-era fighters ending their lives in Caribbean air forces. BUT I have not failed to notice that one or two (or three or six) others ( @Winded Penguin @mark.au @AliGauld @bigbadbadge @alt-92 @2996 Victor--who am I missing?) have started (and in some cases nearly finished!) PR Spitfires as an unofficial GB, and I have this kit burning a hole in my pocket, so I want to join, albeit a little late, if I may!? I will build the Swedish version, all over PRU blue, and I think this could be a quick one. I know this kit has been built a lot around here, so nothing particularly exciting, maybe, but am I allowed to admit that this would be my first Spitfire ever? 😱 I actually have an idea for another project centered on the Spitfire, but with Last Legs Ponies, Minor Gustavs, and Hawker Hurricanes around the World all underway, I'm not going to officially start "Spitfires-by-the-Seas" just yet. In fact, just next to the Spitfire we have Haiti (P-51D), South Africa (Hurricane Mk I) and Finland (BF 109G-6) all patiently waiting for completion. But, they will keep being patient, I'm confident. 😋 I gave the sprues a bath last night. And then began chopping. I think I know the inner colours I need from poking around other WIPs--Grey Green interior, red/brown seat, aluminum behind the seat, with wheel wells underside colour. I think I will use Vallejo's 71.109 PRU Blue, which I will may be able to pick up this weekend. Ok, all for now, next stop, cockpit assembly!
