  1. Here I go again...another 19 Sq build and, I hope, one of three Spitfires I'll be building for my project. I've not built the Tamiya Spitfire before so this is a new kit for me. It looks pretty good so far from what I have seen. The decals will be from the Xtradecal sheet that had the Hawk commemorative flight. Is this will be with no registration and a big '19' on the rudder. Very cool. There is loads of great research on this aircraft and I will include some good links here... https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/87251 http://spitfiresite.com/2007/09/early-spitfire-mk-i-no-19-squadron.html ...and of course, Digby with the poorly placed fence that ended this aircraft's very short career. http://www.raf-lincolnshire.info/digby/digby_crashes.htm So, there are some issues with the kit, namely that it doesn't have a two-bladed prop, which this aircraft probably had fixed onto its Merlin II. I'll have the fix that somehow. Also, the sources say it probably had a Night/Day underside with the control surfaces kept aluminum dope for weight reasons. The decal sheet has the whole underside in aluminum. I'll go for the Night/Day look and keep the flaps NMF. So, that's it for now. I'll start in on her sometime this weekend. Here's some pictures to start... Sprue, etc...later... --John

  3. Kit: Eduard 1/48 Spitfire “Spitfire Story: The Few” boxing Decals: DK decals Spitfire Mk I/II Aces The newly arrived Eduard Spitfire will be my next entry into the group build. I am really looking forwards to building this kit, so as soon as my Tamiya Spitfire is finished this will be on the table! Middle Wallop is just down the road from me, so I wanted to build an aircraft from one of the Spitfire (234 and 609) or Hurricane (238) squadrons which operated from there during the Battle. When I saw there were decals for Bob Doe’s Spitfire, then that was the natural choice. I think anyone who has watched programmes about the battle will have seen interviews with him recounting his experiences. Doe went on to fly Hurricanes with 238 in the latter stages of the battle, so there is potential for a Bob Doe double (time and decals permitting). “We do not want to be remembered as heroes, we ask only to be remembered for what we did ... that's all” Wing Commander R.F.T. Doe DSO, DFC*
  4. A tribute to the pilots and ground crews of the RAF during the Battle of Britain. Depicting 601Sqn pilot P/O Billy FISKE (US) and 602Sqn fighter Ace P/O Osgood Hanbury with sound and movement from Magic Scale Modeling. 2020 is the 80th anniversary where the RAF made its mark as the world’s finest air force having faced overwhelming odds against the Luftwaffe. The history of the bravery of the men and women in the air and ground is well documented. As a founder member of the Tangmere Sector Modellers IPMS who are based at the Tangmere Military Aviation Museum which is located on the site of one of the most famous Battle of Britain RAF bases and squadrons. This diorama is to honour two of those squadrons, one based at Tangmere and the other at RAF Westhampnett (now Goodwood) which was within the Tangmere sector of operations and in particular two pilots one of whom was the first American ‘eagle’ pilot to be killed in the battle. The Hawker Hurricane is from the Airfix Ready for Battle set, along with the figures and equipment. Supplemented by Revell RAF ground personnel set. The Spitfire is the new too Tamiya and the Hangar is from Large Scale Models.
  5. This will be part of a diorama consisting of the 1:48 Tamiya Spitfire Mk1 from 602 Sqn P/O Osgood Hanbury and the 1:48 Hawker Hurricane from Airfix. This submission focus,s on the Spitfire with Magic Scale Modelling ' plug and play Merlin Engine authentic sound system.
  6. (accidentally posted in WIP, supposed to be on RFI) Here's a model I built a few months ago. This has shown up on Britmodeller before, just never on RFI. I thought I had posted it but, turns out I never did. This is a Spitfire Mki, representing Spitfire K9843, DL.N, of 54 Squadron circa early Summer 1939. The decals are from Iliad Design's pre War Spitfires sheet, which has decals for 6 aircraft from before September 1939. The aircraft is equipped with a two blade Watts propeller, and has the original, flat canopy This is currently one of my favourite Spitfire in my collection, alongside my Swedish S31 (PR.XIX) which flew in the 1950s. The underside is typical of a Spitfire of the period, white and black contrasting across the underside of the aircraft. The aircraft fell victim to its narrow landing gear and tendancy to flip upsidedown when landing on 30th November 1939. The pilot survived without major injury, going on to fly with the RAF until 1957 and the aircraft was repaired. He damaged two Spitfires that day, having had another mishap in one, K9839, only an hour earlier.
  7. Hello everyone, hope you all had a nice weekend. Posting my latest build for you. 1/72 Airfix Spitfire, was going to be a quick clean build but after I dropped it and broke both the aerial masts I changed my mind and roughed it up a bit, not sure if roughing up this particular aircraft is historically correct but hey ho. I've used the 3D-Kits Rotol Spitfires MkI & II set, it included a new seat, control column plus the decals and Rotol prop, they all seemed to work very well. This aircraft was from 54 Squadron, Hornchurch in March 1940. Paints used were a mix of Gunze, Citadel, Tamiya and Vallejo plus washes from Flory models, Mig and Citadel. Hope the pictures are ok, using google web albums for the first time. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome. Cheers...
