I couldn't resist opening a thread for this, although I'll only start this after the D-Day Mk.IX is first finished. The kit should possess all the superb qualities of the Mark Niner kit, and tops it off with a less intimidating paint scheme (no stripes!). The subject is the very same plane that Airfix depicts in the boxart of its brand new 1:24 kit, but in a little different period without the name "Grey Nurse" and the Ace of Spades sqn insignia on the rudder. V-P Edit: Oh, and I had this pic already at Flickr. No, not the silver one!

I finished this one a month or so ago but only got around to the glamour pics today. The ICM kit isn't the best Spitfire Mk.VIII kit by a long shot, but I still quite like it and it builds up well enough once its idiosyncrasies are known and managed. Here's the WIP. TL;DR Built mostly out of the box but some angst over the markings and paint scheme, plus scratch built the bomb carriers and a photo which is possibly/probably of the subject aircraft taking off on what would turn out to be its last sortie. Lt. Norman Cullen was killed in this aircraft on 10 July 1945. He was last seen pulling out from his bombing run on enemy targets in the vicinity of Tawao, Northern Borneo, it's assumed he was hit by ground fire. This was the final offensive sortie RAAF 452 Squadron undertook in the war. Cheers.

Hello everyone... well I cant just stop at two so I just ordered two more Eduard over-tree’s sets. Both are Mk.VIII’s, the first will be from the CBI Theater, and will be Group Captain Robert Boyd 239 wing 1944. I will add the sprue shots when they arrive. Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or add thoughts. Dennis

Hello everyone... well I cant just stop at two so I just ordered two more Eduard over-tree’s sets. Both are Mk.VIII’s, the second will be a Mk.VIII in a nurse shark scheme. though I will be doing RG*V A-58-497 as flown by Wing Commander Bobby Gibbes RAAF. Is this profile accurate with the earth brown ? Or were these Day fighter scheme Dk.Green/Ocean grey ? Please feel free to ask questions, post comments, and or thoughts. Dennis

Spitfire - Aussie Eight - Completed
trickyrich posted a topic in Supermarine Spitfire & Seafire STGB
Ok right from the start I wasn’t intending to join this STGB for many reasons, But I really need a break from my current build and wanted to do something a bit different for me. Plus It just so happened I have the perfect model/s for this build. I have to admit I’ve never built a Spitfire, not too sure why, probably had/have other favourites….mmmm I know, sacrilege!!!! So if I’m to have a break then why not pop my cherry….well Spitfire Cherry at the same time! And what a way to pop it, with Eduard’s amazing Aussie 8 Spitfire Combo……I mean what else could I build if it was to be a Spitfire…but an Aussie one or 2….cobber! She’s untouched like a warn stubby of beer on a cold day! Gosh this is a lovely looking model, the model and detail work is amazing, and 2 of everything…….a mans modellers dream! More decals than you could point a prawn at!!! Plus 31 choices….better than a Friday night at the local! Ok both hotties are Aussie of course, sheila #1 is an exotic number from Burma, look at the tips on her!!!! Then there's the nurse, a lovely country gal from Darwin….get a load of the mouth on that one! Dare you to give her lip!!! So like a cold stubbie on a hot day…..well any day, we’re into it cobber…..who needs a blue pill with beauties like this……. ….the cockpit stuff goes together real quick……. and scrubs up well when painted to!! A wee bit more tarting up and she’ll be ready for Saturday night on the town! Just like twins there’s a wee bit of difference….so heaven forbid we get the names wrong at the wrong time…….give’m labels to wear and she’ll be sweet! bet you can't spot the difference! Done some more since the snaps, but they’re a bit stuffed and need a frothy. So the plan is I want/need to have them done by ANZAC day, 25th April, not a big task as they just seem to fall together…. like a couple after a big night on the town!- 113 replies
