  1. Hello there! Let me introduce you to my latest completed model from Trumpeter - the mighty Spiteful. The kit has many flaws and a few really serious problems too, which were discussed here before. I tried to cover most of them, but some were just really tricky to repair (eg. wheel bays or wing roots). I wanted to recreate the actual machine from the photos which I have, so please don't be taken aback with the surface finish - those prototypes and testing machines were really shiny and clean. I tried to recreate the oil leak from the engine on the starboard side of the fuselage and, of course, on the belly. The most difficult part were remaking of the canopy rim with the aluminium tape and reducing air intakes almost half of it's height. The airscrew is also adjusted to a better shape. Roundels are from Xtradecal and Tamiya acryl paints were used. Even though the kit is not perfect by far, I still quite enjoyed building it. I hope you'll like it. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Andrew
  2. Hi all, As threatened previously, this'll be my contribution to the GB. Picked up off an auction site a couple of years back and my vacform cherry being popped by building a Rareplane Seafire 47 before I got to this point. The canopy hasn't yellowed on this one! Initial cutting out of parts done in the garden, with what I would like to think is the most appropriate tipple for the task in hand... Now for some trimming and filing. IanJ
  3. I found these brilliant shots on this website; I've never seen them before and they appear to have been uploaded to the internet recently. All that's needed now is a decent shot of the windscreen structure and I'd be satisfied! (or production drawings, if they survive)
  4. Trumpeter Spiteful in 1/48. I liked it, the cockpit was a bit strange, the seat looked more like 1/72 scale, but I replaced it with another from the spares box, as it is you cant see much through the canopy anyway. I pre shaded this but all evidence disappeared beneath the top coats, Im using Vallejo air paints with no thinners, should I be thinning down and if so what sort of ratio should I use ?
  5. Hi all, Going to finally getting around to doing my Trumpeter 1/48 Spiteful. Made a half hearted attempt to start it a few years back, glued the undercarriage doors up into the lower wing as I as planning on doing it in flight. Hard to believe but Trumpeter got their research wrong with the box art, RB518 depicted was a F.16, so I'll be modifying the serial to reflect RB515 which was the first production F.14
  6. OK, sticking my neck out with my intended build: NN660, the short-lived first prototype for the Spiteful Source: http://ipmsuk.proboards.com/thread/5630/supermarine-spiteful-1st-prototypes-colour I'm not actually sure how I'm going to attack it yet- I've got Falcon vac Spiteful and XIV fuselage, and I'm tempted to try to do a vac kitbash, but may go with an injection fuselage instead. bob [Edit: 28 Apr I'm going to try to do a production Spiteful as well.]
  7. Iconicair (http://www.iconicair.com/) is to release a 1/32nd resin kit from the Supermarine Spiteful F.14. 8. I was going through my Spiteful/Seafang files yesterday and found these images of the props I'd pulled from another site (I'd right clicked them without really looking at them when I downloaded them). The first image is of spiteful NN664. The blades here look something like the type you may expect to find on a spitfire 21-24 This next set of blades are on prototype Seafang VG471 and remarkably like those supplied by Academy for their MkXIV. They carry the code EXP as far as I can make out. My attempts to measure these blades put them at the same diameter and I calculated 11' 3" by nefarious means so I would suspect they are both 11' rather than 10' 4". Anybody got any thoughts on these blades? Has anybody got the resources to identify them? Thanks in advance, Dave
  9. This was completed last weekend - I had originally posted it within an earlier thread but decided it needed it's own! Trumpeter 1/48 Supermarine Spiteful (PR) In my view, this is a great little kit - no vices to speak of and went together so easily, one minute a pile of parts - the next a built up Spiteful awaiting a layer of paint. I wanted mine to look a little different - now as this was designed to be fast, I thought, what if it had been used instead of the PR19 - so here we are - A spiteful PR variant. No weathering on this at all - not even a panel wash. And for a change, this one has been brush painted. Hope you like it (I know its not perfect, but hey, built to enjoy and to get my mojo back a little - but can't build anything too big as will be moving in the next couple of months or so and small are easier to pack and move!)
