  1. Announced (sort of) on their FB page. https://www.facebook.com/Hong-Kong-Models-Co-Ltd-1375731456009809/timeline/ Cheers, Andrew
  2. Apologies to you who have seen these before but since the 'Photobucket event' I have only just got around to loading these on to a new server. In no particular order... XT596 FG.1 No.2 as delivered to A&AEE 1968. XT597 FG.1 A&AEE circa 1982. XT861 FG.1 767 NAS 1970. XV484 FGR.2 31 Squadron 1976. XV492 FGR.2 92 Squadron 1985. XV498 FGR.2 92 Squadron 1983. XV470 FGR.2 19 Squadron 1989. XV492 (again) FGR.2 56 Squadron 1991. All built from the Hasegawa (or Revell) kit in 1/48 using an assortment of aftermarket bits and bobs. Enjoy!
  3. The Phantom FG.1 pre production airframe XT597 (currently for sale at Everett Aero) was used by the A&AEE from 'birth' until retirement. She conducted the sea trials on the USS Saratoga and later went on to clear weaponry and systems before squadron service. By 1982 she had acquired some FGR.2 outer wing panels, a Doppler 72 radar panel under the nose and an air of scruffiness about her in the pictures I can see. Having the Hasegawa 1:48 FG.1 kit and the extra correct nose for XT597 but no decals left me with a odd spare part until I got ahold of the RAM Models Early British Phantoms sheet. Having already built XT596 (currently at Yeovilton) from this set this seemed like a great opportunity. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997445-phantom-f-4k-no2-xt596-royal-navy-a-aee/page-1 So, on to my build... Work in progress is here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006034-phantom-fg1-148-hasegawa/page-1 The build is as accurate as I can make it, however I have added some artisitc licence. The tanks have Post Office red tips (This was a pure guess, but looks interesting) but are quite chipped and marked as by 1982 I figured the bulk of XT597's work would have been as a Tornado chase plane. For this reason I fitted an FGR.2 Strike camera in the port forward sparrow recess as it could have been used for taking film of the subject aircraft in flight. Here is a picture of the completed build, along with a picture of XT597 in her pre-rasberry ripple finish and the decal instructions...
  4. Hi, There is a lot of knowledge about the Spey Phantom on this site, some of it from people who actually worked on them in service. I thought I would start this thread to pick people's brains and allow others to learn a bit too. To kick off I'm keen to learn more about dummy Sparrows... I have read that the Spey Phantoms carried dummy Sparrows in the forward bays: "...as fuel was used, in fact the F-4K/M became dangerously close to having a C of G problem in certain conditions" The thing is I cannot seem to find any pictures of early FG.1 with them, and frequently these aircraft in RN service have empty bays. Was it only really an issue later, or with the RAF preferring wing tanks. Was this partly off set by the FAA preference for the centre tank. Was this why the RN preferred the centre tank. (Did they even or is that another dubious fact?) I am having to collate info from various sources to jump to these scanty assumptions and if someone hands on would like to correct me I would be delighted. Not just from a modelling point of view (no Spey Phantom will ever have a C of G problem now sadly) but more to improve my knowledge of what is rapidly becoming my favourite aircraft. Thanks.
  5. Does anyone have any good photos of the Spey burner can's for the British Phantoms? I'm specifically looking for any good photos that show the actuator assemblies inside the exhaust area. Thanks David
