  1. I held off on finishing this for a while to see if the Revell kit was any good. I've seen one now, and will be sticking with my Tamiya kits having compared them to the Avieology drawings. Still, it may reduce the interest in these so I'm going to begin with a batch of 30 sets and see how they go. This is a direct fit replacement tailplane and elevator set for the Tamiya 1/48 Bristol Beaufighter TF.X (Kit no. 61067). Simply replace the kit parts with these and you're done. These represent the Mod. T361 late tailplanes and elevators with enlarged balance which was achieved by extendi
  2. It's to my shame that it's taken me so long, but we are now very pleased to announce that we have, exclusive to Sovereign Hobbies, a healthy supply of 2 stage engine nacelle resin conversion sets for your 1/48 scale Tamiya de Havilland Mosquito kits by Pangolin Models (JasonC, as you may know him). https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/1-48/products/pangolin-two-stage-mosquito-nacelles-1-48 Everything is now ready except for the little cardboard folder-over thingimabobs with the label to go on the packaging, which we'll have ready within a week. These are avail
  3. We are pleased to announce two new colours in our range. These colours are seldom required for very large areas on models but nevertheless they are so distinct that when required they are difficult to substitute. ACUS46 is FS 12197 International Orange, which was sometimes referred to as day-glo and which was regularly seen dotted around USAF aircraft during the cold war, indeed some aircraft had the entire rear fuselage and tails painted in it! The colour would fade somewhat in service, but the fresh appearance is very distinct. ACLW30 is RAL 2005 and officially called
  4. Our next show will be Scale Modelworld at Telford! Come and see us there! We are now opening orders for collection at Telford using the discount code "SMWTELFORD2017". This will close the Monday before the show to allow us time to get all your orders packed!
  5. Hi folks, Our first shipment from Artwox arrived today containing a nice selection of 1/700, 1/350 and 1/200 subjects - most of which are not available from our other stocked brands. We will be adding these to our webstore over the next day or two and, of course, we'll have them at Telford
  6. We have now finished a long-over due (and let's be honest, rather tedious!) exercise of producing colour brochures for the Colourcoats paint range. Having ruled out physical paint chips long ago (my time is worth more than anyone will want to pay) and being aware that ink just isn't very good, we have opted for downloadable brochures. These are free and you can print them at your peril! https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/pages/colour-list
  7. Very Fire Model from China is a new and up-coming company developing detail-up sets for 1/350 ships, but are actively developing latest generation injection moulded plastic kits. Their first release is the delightful and surprisingly large 1/700 kit of the battleship USS Montana. This kit is beautifully moulded and comes complete with a comprehensive sheet of photo etched brass, integrated instructions and a full colour painting guide. Sovereign Hobbies Ltd is their UK stockist! Our first stock arrived in store today and is available now: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collect
  8. Infini Model's latest release has been fairly well publicised on social media recently, but today it is ready. We've had quite a number of enquiries about this to so try to ensure people can get one ASAP we've decided to hold a "pre-order" for the sets: https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/infini-detail-up-set/products/im-535010r1-infini-model-dkm-graf-zeppelin-detail-up-set For those looking to improve on specific areas without the expense or work scope of the full detail up set, Infini Model have decided to supply sub-sets as follows:
  9. Does anyone want to build a battle cruiser? This is the first load to arrive, a second box is en route ...
  10. We've just received a restock of Pontos Model sets, including their latest release, 1/200 Japanese pre-dreadnought battleship Mikasa. https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/pontos-model
  11. Just got this from Jamie Duff, proprietor of Sovereign Hobbies who bought Colourcoats when WEM folded: "We are launching this weekend at the Perth (UK) IPMS show. We will get the webstore finished when we get back and we have a means to post paints within UK mainland and above board which is great. Still need to sort out international shipping but one step at a time...." I hope everyone will give Jamie all the support that you gave us at WEM, and help him make Colourcoats a resounding success!
  12. It's all a bit last-minute but Sovereign Hobbies shall be trading at Scale Scotland, on Saturday 3rd September at the Edinburgh Airport Hilton hotel. http://www.scalescotland.co.uk/'>http://www.scalescotland.co.uk/ We shall have with us: Colourcoats: Top quality naval, aircraft and armour enamel paints - if you have used them, you're probably already a customer. If you haven't, then make your judgement on the number of negative remarks you can find in the public domain. Inconsistent results from your current brand? Dicky colours? Give us a try - you won't be sorry.. White Ensign Models
  13. IJN Shimakaze detail set Infini Models 1:350 One of the latest releases from Fujimi in their 1:350 ship range is the IJN experimental destroyer Shimakaze, to go with it they have also released a couple of etched sets of their own design. Whilst they are quite nice, this new set from Infini Models is an order of magnitude better. This being my first look at an Infini Models product, I wasn’t really sure what to expect, even after the packet had arrived from Sovereign Hobbies. At first glance it looks like any other etched detail set, although in a thicker plastic wallet, upon opening, this
  14. Good evening fellow modellers We have had a busy week at Sovereign Hobbies, which is going to mean some positive changes in the not-too-distant future. More on that in due-course ... In the short term, we have initiated manufacture of 3 new colours: ACRN34 WW2 Azure Blue This colour is matched to the colour chips endorsed by the RAF Museum at Hendon within the book "British Aviation Colours of World War Two - The Official Camouflage, Colours and Markings of RAF Aircraft, 1939-1945" published by Arms and Armour Press ISBN 0-85368-271-2. This book is regarded as the reference for wartime
  15. There are many threads and questions about Spitfire propellers and which should be fitted to what mark etc. There are some great references here on Britmodeller already. This post is intended to publicise the different propellers and spinners available for Spitfires in 1/48 scale from Ultracast. All info from Ultracast's own site: Weybridge 2-blade propeller - Ultracast 48197 This propeller was installed on the first production Spitfires (K9787 to K9863) De Havilland 3-blade propeller and spinner - Ultracast 48112 This is the prop & spinner mostly commonly associated with the Mk I
  16. We have released a new proprietary thinner to compliment the Colourcoats range Colourcoats Thinners offers a number of key benefits to enamel paint users including: · Reduced odours during use compared to white spirits or cellulose thinners · Reduced drying times compared to white spirits · Less aggressive towards styrene plastics than cellulose thinners · If desired, excess thinned paints can be returned to Colourcoats tins without premature curing in the tin https://www.sovereignhobbies.co.uk/collections/multi-use-colours/products/colourcoats-thinners'
  17. Morning all, We're pleased to be attending the Scottish Nationals again in Perth (Scotland, not Australia!) on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April 2016. We will be taking a wide range of Colourcoats paint, but with the benefit of experience this time we will be taking (much) less of the slower sellers. We will also bring our products from Pontos Model, Infini Model (including their new white rigging line) and White Ensign Models. Due to popular demand, and a general aim of less tedious set-up and tear down of paint stands (sorry, we're only human and it's very boring ) we're doing pre-orde
  18. Various Colours Colourcoats, Sovereign Hobbies I’ve been a long time advocate for Colourcoats enamels and it was with shock and sadness that these paints were to be no more with the demise of White Ensign Models. Fortunately though, Sovereign Hobbies were able to buy the rights to the paints and, I believe with the help of John Snyder, have been able to re-release them, although with a slightly revised recipe. They still have to be some of the most accurate enamels, colour wise, around. The first thing you notice is the new style labels on the tins. These are not only of a cleaner, fresher
  19. It's a very soggy day in Aberdeenshire today and therefore one purpose made for model making indoors! It has taken me far too long to get around to having a more formalised presence here on Britmodeller and hope to share some of what we're doing both in the UK and internationally. 13 months ago I read on Facebook that White Ensign Models were to cease trading. This came as a shock and huge disappointment. I've been making models since I was a child with both my father and grandfather but had only fairly recently got back in to it properly after a break where starting careers and family got i
  20. Hi Folks, although normally adversed to posting WIPs due to my general lack of haste or inability to finish anything in any sort of reasonable timescale, I've decided to post one for my next build. I've been dabbling with 1:48 scale on the odd occasion this year, mainly to get the pesky things out of my stash to make more room for Gentleman's scale kits, but also so that I could try out some new techniques and consumables on larger bits of plastic. The kit I'm going to make is the Airfix 1:48 Bf109E which has (shamefully) been sitting in my stash since this time last year (many thanks to Co
