Happy new year everyone! I've been looking forward to this GB, going to try and get at least a couple of builds done, and I'm starting with a pair of Zvezda Tu-134s. One of them will be a standard Tu-134A, probably in early Aeroflot colours, and the other will be converted to a Tu-134SKh crop survey aircraft using a Small Stuff conversion. Here's one of the kits, plus the conversion: The conversion includes nicely cast resin parts for the camera pods that go under the wing roots, and a few other modifications, plus a decal sheet by Avia Decals (printed by Begemot). I'll be using a different Avia Decals sheet for the Tu-134A. First job on both builds is to change the window configuration. The Avia instructions say the position of a couple of windows in the kit is wrong, and includes a self-adhesive vinyl template to mark out the positions of the holes to drill. The modification to the Tu-134SKh is a bit more extensive, there quite a few windows to fill and a couple that need to be moved. There isn't a template this time, but detailed instructions on where they go, and I've checked the locations against the decals. The sprues were quite conveniently similarly sized to the window openings, so I dealt with the windows that needed filling by gluing in a bit of sprue, trimming, filling with CA around the edges and then sanding flush. Here's how the two fuselages look: I'll assemble the fuselages tomorrow. more soon Julian

Still doing some research, but hope to end up with something looking like this: Appears to be two schools of thought towards the finish of these particular aircraft, with either overall aluminum or CDL surfaces -or could that possibly be opaque yellow? I had thought of using a shade of horizon blue for metal surfaces other than the cowl, but now I'm not sure if the floats were constructed of metal or wood? Any takers?? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyhow, this is where it's at so far on the bench. On the left side, below the dime, is initial gluing of the fuselage halves. Not sure if it is warp-age or what, but only applied cement at the cowl end and once that was set, some hand held pressure coaxed the back half together. Next to that is Small Stuff resin engine of the Clerget 9B/Z (130/110 hp) Engine. This will be a like mini kit to build, I count about 46 pieces in total. Even a tool is provided to handle the tiniest detail. Lastly, Minute72 PE detail specifically dedicated to the Hanriot. The PE cockpit detail is done, and although the instructions do indicate four points to attach control wires, I'll likely skip that being 1/72 scale. The seat cushion is not affixed so it can be painted separate. Lower wing attached, and dry fit of the PE detail inside the fuselage. The interior required both walls and floor sanded down. regards, Jack

Resin WWI Engines 1:72 & 1:48 Small Stuff Models Small Stuff are a new company to me, at the moment they produce a range of WWI rotary and in-line engines in 1:72 and 1:48 scales. Looking at their website it seems they may be branching out into other scales and other eras. The engines are small models in their own right. There is a central hub to which all the cylinders attach. For each cylinder you then have to attach spark plugs, intake tubes, valve rockers & levers, and push rods. Some of these parts are small and to help with the smallest parts a special applicator is included. It is also worth noting that "extra" parts are provided,as I am sure I can here the carpet monster salivating at all these small parts! All the arts are excellently cast with no flaws I can see. The sample engine pictured is 1:48 scale, but the 1:72 scale ones are just as detailed. These instructions are excellent. Clear CAD drawn pictures and minimal text really show you how to put these engines together. As a way of further help to the modeller they have an excellent photo tutorial here on their website. Conclusion These engines are models in their own right. There is no doubt to the reviewer that if you put the time into these they will enhance any model you put them on. Highly recommended. Review samples courtesy of-
