  1. Everyone knows the famous A-1 Skyraider but less so it’s multi-seat cousin. Designed for the Navy as an advanced anti-submarine aircraft she was lengthened by close to 2’ and widened by 9” to allow for side-by-side seating, with a rear compartment special equipment and 1 or 2 operators. All this space in the back also allowed for some interesting adaptions, a VIP transport, 4 stretchers could be loaded or up to 12 people!!! Not so squeezy!! It was in the role with the Airforce as a support aircraft for aircrew recover that the A-1E “Sandy” and her single seat “Spad” cousin really
  2. Well as a result of looking for references for @stevej60's potential A-1E build and after seeing the simply fantastic job that @SoftScience is doing on his Tamiya A-1, not to mention our Glorious leaders ( @trickyrich ) brilliant looking 1/32 resin A-1E I fell into the trap of getting caught up in Skyraider research, a truly dangerous trap for which there is only one way out, build one! So off to the stash I went and I pulled out an anonymous looking cardboard box; The keen eyed among you may well be able to read what has been written on it by it's previous owner, Skyrai
  3. Hello! This is my VNAF Spad, a very nice kit from Tamiya. Used some Eduard PE and decals from AOA, since the originals were too old. Cammo was free hand painted (Gunze) and I scratch built a few details, like the wiring to the ejection seat system and those static dischargers. Hope you enjoy! Cheers! ps: by the way, the chart over the panel is a very reduced WAC 1:1000.000 of South Vietnam.
  4. Hi Folks, I’ve not posted my work(on here)for some time but would like to share my latest build with you. It’s Revells 1/48 fat face Skyraider. Picked it up for £10 from The Works website(uk) as I’ve always liked Skyraider’s but not been willing to part with Hasegawa prices. It’s the old Matchbox kit I believe and is lacking in detail with raised panel lines(which I re-scribed). Really enjoyed the build and fairly pleased with the result, the wing joints were a pain as was the ‘blue rinse’ for the rear glazing. Main paints are hataka lacquer for LGG and Tamiya white. I thought the hataka white

  6. Hi there! I've recently been drawn towards dioramas. I've always found them to be super cool - and as a kid I started a few but they never got finished. Found Warhammer games instead and off I went. Anyways, I've been back in the hobby for year and a half now, making quite a few airplanes which are my passion. But like I said, recently I've picked up interest in the dioramas again and wanted to try to do one. I got couple models on the post, but I wanted to start with something that I already have. And I have this: I don't normally do 1/48 - so
  7. Hi, I'm building a 1/72 hasegawa/w special bomb A-1H also know as AD-6 skyraider and one of the decals have shreaded itself on application. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement. This is the kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-bp104-a-1h-skyraider--138567
  8. A question for the collective brains that are attuned to the ins and outs of the skyraider. Q: were the cooling shutters and cowl flaps tied so that they worked in sync? My intention is to build my current Skyraider with shutters open but does that mean I need to show the cowl flaps open too? thanks in advance.
  9. Morning folk's,looked like I was coasting towards the end of this GB with the Fury at the painting stage and the Sea Fox the last to do.I then realised while attempting to rig the little gladiator in the Nordic GB with stretch sprue I really need to invest in some easyline and have a practice too.Anyway I've dropped the Sea Fox and that was going to be it however I saw the Revell/Matchbox AD-5 on e-bay at under £12 posted from a gift company, checked out a review and looked over the sprue's and thought yes that's for me,there must be a glut of these kits as a few weeks ago Jadlam

  11. In between my new armored obsession and a big diorama project I like to return to aircraft. I have always wanted to do something from the Vietnam war era. Also I don't have any props in my collection so this plane fits the bill. I havent decided on a decal set but I would like to do a Sqn that is not well known. So a behind the scene project is looking at photos and finding decals. Love the scene in "Flight of the intruder" when William Dafoe calls in "Sandy" the loitering Skyraider. Anyways should be fun looking forward to the final coat. I am goint to add expansion
  12. Zoukei-Mura re-releases its 1/32nd Douglas A-1 kits weapons set included and with a new box art. Sources: https://www.facebook.com/oxygino3dart/posts/1101992656799382 https://www.facebook.com/oxygino3dart/posts/1096601280671853 V.P.
  13. Hi all, Just rolling out, for the second time, my French AD-4N. This model was my first after returning to the hobby only 4.5 years ago following a break of nearly 35 years! I originally finished her as I would have done many years ago but more recently, after gaining more knowledge of new techniques, I’ve given her a make over. The main changes being the addition of aerials and weathering/panel lining. She is the excellent Hasegawa kit, originally an A-1J (I think – my memory!) and I converted her in my way to a French machine. She is depicted as 127888, coded 21-LE of Esc 1/21 ba
  14. Hello, I was asked by an manager of an aircraft museum om how to gett an (ex RN) Swedish AD-4W / AEW-1 Skyraider in 1/72. What I knew that isn't an easy task. Is there an resin set or anything out there? http://www.joebaugher.com/usattack/newa1_24.html Cheers / André
  15. One of my more recent work, the immaculate Skyraider. Here seen in the colours of VA-176. Modelled in Modo with very little Photoshop post render work needed on this one, more or less just changed the contrast and added a tiny bit of grainy 'noise' to the image.
  16. Good day everyone! Its been along time since I started a new build. I was steamrolling on at the beginning of the year but then in April (Violins ready!) I broke my elbow and that was that for a couple of weeks, and I have since struggled to get enough interest going. Then when Photobucket threw a spanner in the works with their blatant blackmail scam I just hit the stage of 'I really cannot be bothered!'. I didn't even contribute that much on the forums over the last few months. Just blindly scrolled through with apathy then slowly but surely this hobby will eat away at you and after a couple
  17. An all new 1/48th Douglas AD-5Q Skyraider resin conversion set is in the development stage. The maker of this yet to be announced product is currently unknown (North Wing Model Craft ??). To be followed Source: https://www.facebook.com/groups/695711033832473/permalink/1740945512642348/ V.P.
  18. The fourth one this year, a record for me! It's the Tamiya 1/48 Skyraider in a French Air Force scheme with MDC update set & decals. They were used in the Counter Insurgency role in Algeria. This particular aircraft was operated by EC2/20 "Ouarsenis" from Boufarik in 1961. The MDC set includes resin aerials, rockets & rocket rails as well as brass fins for the rockets. These were individual, 4 for each rocket x 12 rockets = 48 fins. I made such a town halls of the first one that I gave up. The kit itself goes together without any problems, as you'd expect with Tamiya.
  19. Thanks Tali! A new Ukrainian brand, Skale Wings (formerly Ukrop Models), is to release a 1/72th Douglas AD-5W Skyraider kit - ref. VS001 Sources: http://www.greenmats.club/topic/1784-ad-5w-172/#comment-19682 http://hobbyterra.com/product/skyraider-ad-5w-attack-aircraft-in-1-72-scale-skale-wings-001.html V.P.
  20. Hello modeller friends, I'm currently building a Tamiya 1/48 Skyraider USN early 1960s with a bucket seat (as opposed to the later Yankee extraction seat). I searched long and large but cannot find a reference for the colour of the seat belts/harness. Can any of you Skyraider experts help me in that matter? Thank you in advance, Cheers, Quang
  21. Hello, Long time lurker, first time poster. After many (30-mumble) years, I've got back into this hobby, so please be gentle. After a couple of semi-sacrificial builds, getting my eye in and trying new techniques, this is the first I'm calling finished. Tamiya 1/48 A-1J of 56th SOW. Tamiya acrylics through airbrush, with Humbrol enamels on the pilot and wheel wells etc. I know there are things wrong with this beast (silvered decals for example, and I haven't plucked up the nerve to do the canopy frames yet), but I'm really happy with how it's turned out.
  22. Douglas Skyraider 20mm Cannon and Pitot Probes 1:32 Master Models The latest batch of items from Master Models included these two sets for 1:32 Skyraiders. As usual, they are beautifully turned and finished and are so much more realistic than the kit parts. Though easy to assemble and fit, one set is a little more fiddly than the other. [AM-32-093] – This set is for any 1:32 Douglas Skyraider. The set includes turned brass barrels without flash hiders and aluminium pitot tube. The set contains two versions of cannon muzzles. 23. Evening, I tried to start this thread a while ago, but managed to mess up the pictures, let's hope it all goes a bit better this time. So after the Tamiya Spitfire I fancied something a little simpler so went for the venerable Hasegawa FW190-A5, which went together very nicely indeed: So after that I needed some inspiration regarding the next victim to be sacrificed on the alter of my ineptitude... I had some time, after all, Susan was away in 'Nam*... Well that was a pointer and it narrowed the choice down to an F100D - but I bought the Thunderb
  24. Built in 1948 at the Douglas El Segundo Plant in California as an AD-4NA this Skyraider saw service with the French and Gabon Air Force's. The Aircraft is now owned by Kennet Aviation and based at North Weald. Is now marked as A-1H 126922 from VA-176 "Thunderbolts" Pics from Tony (swordfish fairey)
