This was one of that builds I had planned as a second possible build for this GB, and actually one of the inspirations for the GB itself. I’ve had this model for a while now and have always wanted to build her. She’s a pretty basic model not much to her and surprisingly straight an not warped for a change…..ok the nose well bay is…no biggy. I’ll be doing the Marine version used in Korea, which was the last carrier based Nightfigher the US produced. Though it’s use in Korea by the Marines was off airfields. The Skyknight shot down more enemy aircraft then any other single type of naval aircaft for the loss of only one aircraft. I’ve made a sort of start….and lots of dust opening up the exhausts openings and intakes. I’m going to use some short pieces of brass tube to lengthen the intakes a bit as they were too shallow. There’s no surprises with this build so if should be quick and simple, once I get the intakes and exhaust areas sorted out.

Hello! This is one of my model. I did it at 2015. It is difficult kit. I used a lot of putty. Canopy was made of transparent packaging. Native canopy did not fit the model. I used MR color paints. Weathering- oil dots, salt dots, pigments and washes.

I've always fancied making an all black Korea bird, or a late Vietnam Electric wizzy, wither USN or USMC. (Also used by the US Army too, but details are scarce to say the least. I suspect test aircraft only?) Can I safely assume the Sword release has been abandoned? So that leaves: 72: Matchbox or 48: Encore A choice between an old kit in my preferred scale) or an expensive one. I know there are issues reported with the fit of the matchbox canopy, and lack of cockpit detail is pretty much a given, so a rare trip to the aftermarket will be likely to achieve food results. Have I missed anything? If I stumble across a MB kit is it still worth the effort considering the lack of competition (note: whilst I don't mind basic detail I don't want to be filling trenches)

F3D-2 / EF-10B Skyknight Cockpit, and Seats for Sword & Matchbox Kits 1:72 Pavla For many years the old Matchbox kit was the only game in town for a 1/72 Skyknight. This was not a bad kit but getting harder to get hold of. Now Sword has increased their 1.72 US range with a new tool Skyknight. The cockpit in the old Matchbox kit was virtually non existent and Sword one is limited by the injection plastic used. This resin cockpit is designed to replace the original kit item in its entirety. The set is comprised of a cockpit tub, instrument panel (for both versions though you will need to consult your refs) & combing, replacement seats, control column, rudder pedals and a couple of side panels for the cockpit sides. All of the resin parts are nicely cast and crisply detailed, and there are no bubbles or casting flaws in evidence. The rear of the cockpit gives the entrance to the escape chute (no ejection seats then!) The control and instrument details are nicely rendered, and the straps on the ejection seats are very realistic. Different sets are provided for the different kits. The same parts are on each they are just sized for the relevant kit. Sword Kit Matchbox Kit If you don't fancy shelling out on the whole cockpit, you can always opt to buy the seats on there own. They are great items and will look good on their own. Conclusion The Sword kit is a great improvement over the matchbox, but the cockpits are lacking on both. Whether you just want a nice pair of detailed seats, or want to go the whole hog with the full cockpit set, these details from Pavla will enhance your kit. Highly recommended.
