Progress on my Paraguayan T-6 has slowed somewhat, so I'm going to start on another Sexy American Single in South American service, this time a P-35: I have not been able to find any photos of what these a/c (something like 2-5, perhaps modified racing machines) looked like, but I found this online and feel it's likely a good approximation. The Hobby Craft 1/48 P-35 includes decals for this, but for mine in 1/72 I'll piece them together from spares. I have these sheets to draw from.

I have my Paraguayan T-6 stalled for a bit, and I started an Ecuadorean P-35 last week, but I'm going to see if I can also manage to get a Peruvian P-36 across the finish line. She'll be another of my Sexy American Singles in South American Service (and if I manage to complete all three of these that will complete my project!). Here's the map of my project, in case of interest (Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Bolivia are all complete already): This is the kit I'll use . . . . . . which includes the Peruvian scheme out of the box. I found a photo online.

For me this is an exciting GB, because I've really come to enjoy building South of the Rio Grande models! I have two projects underway that cover Central and South America (Last Legs Ponies and Sexy American Singles in South American Service), and as my first entry in this GB I will build a 1/72 T-6 using this Special Hobby boxing . . . . . . and decals from Armycast. Roughly this is what she's supposed to look like!

What, another ModelingEdmontonian project? Well, what can I say? As I "travel the world" from my modelling table I have three projects underway already: "Hawker Hurricanes around the World," "Last Legs Ponies," and "Minor Gustavs." Now, I want to introduce "Sexy American Singles in South American Service," which is a spin off of Last Legs Ponies. For Last Legs Ponies I am modeling American WWII fighters that ended their service lives in air forces around the Caribbean. This concept is similar, but I am picking one American WWII single-engine (not necessarily a fighter) to represent each South American nation, with the exception of Colombia and Venezuela, since they are being represented in Last Legs Ponies, and Guyana and Suriname, which I don't believe have operated any relevant aircraft. Oh, the other qualification I have is that they have to be sexy American singles ("sexy" helped with the alliteration I was going for), but that's a subjective criteria 😉 . Here is a map of the eight countries and a/c I plan to model: I have Brazil (Academy P-47D) underway already, but really why I am introducing this project now is that I intend to join the Salty Sea Dog GB with Argentina's F4U-5, so more action will occur in my thread over there for now than in this one. More to come!

For this GB I'm going to build a "Sexy American Singles in South American Service" subject, a Bolivian P-51D. Sexy American Singles in South American Service involves building American WWII single-engine aircraft to represent eight South American nations. So far, I've built representatives from Chile (A-24B); Argentina (F4U); Brazil (P-47); and Uruguay (F6F). Bolivia will be the next addition. I had hoped Arma would have their P-51D out by now, but since they don't I'll use this Airfix kit I picked up. One day I want to build the Korean version from it, but for now she'll be Bolivian. I will use decals and the profile from Aztec:

Sexy Uruguayan Hellcat: 1/72 Eduard F6F-5
ModelingEdmontonian posted a topic in The Salty Sea Dog GB
I previously joined this GB with an Argentine representative from my "Sexy American Singles in South American Service" project, a F4U-5 Corsair: Sadly, I'm not confident I can complete it in time, but I still want to build something for the GB, so now I am beginning a Hellcat from Uruguay! I am using this Eduard 1/72 kit: It will be my first Eduard kit, and I am very impressed so far. I know there have been many of these built around here so I don't think I need to share sprue photos. This is the -5N (nightfighter) kit, but I am just building a -5 using these decals: Here are photos of Uruguayan Hellcats which will be similar to what I'm attempting to model.- 22 replies

I will be joining this GB with a 1/72 F4U-5 Corsair in Argentine markings as part of my newly-introduced "Sexy American Singles in South American Service" project. I purchased the Italeri F4U-7 kit as the starting point . . . . . . but I think I may pick up a F4U-5 too as I think some of the peripheral parts (such as some of the wing pylons and the exhaust glare shields and maybe the radome) I need are missing from the -7. Here is a photo of two of the Argentine birds--at this point I think I will be modeling one of them like 3-A-201 with the all blue scheme. Here are sprue shots from the -7 kit: Not the best set of sprues I've seen, but nothing that looks unworkable. Looking forward to the GB!
