Some while back I made some (very) rudimentary pilots for my 1/144 scale Tomcat, and given the accuracy and detail of the original kit they were fine for that, but they wouldn't win any awards! I spotted a guy was selling 3D printed pilots on eBay and asked if he'd considered 144th scale versions... he had considered it, and was about to do them so, I waited a couple of weeks and hey presto ordered a bundle of 5 little pilots just to see how they look. They arrived this morning and appear to be finely detailed to my eye, certainly adequate once under a typical canopy on any little 1/144 scale jet. I'm yet to attempt painting and using them, and as I'm shortly moving home it'll be some while before I get around to that. They're from https://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/cocamp-7821 He presently does two versions; a pack of 5 pilots with seats for £6.25 (these ones) or a pack of 6 pilots without seats for £6.45 (both including UK delivery only) I have absolutely no connection to the guy, these were bought by me, I just thought they're worth sharing with the rest of you if you're on the look out for some generic modern military seated pilots for your 1/144 scale aircraft in flight. I like them, I think you might too!

Hi all, I have made the leap to diversify from my usual 1/35 armour builds to try a ww2 plane kit. If I only ever build 1 plane kit, I want to do a big one, and something less common......so I ordered Trumpeter's 1/24 Spitfire Mk V float plane for myself for Xmas. I have found some amazing references and history (which led me to buy the kit), but after reading some reviews of the kit one of the biggest flaws is the seat. After some browsing it seems that finding an "in stock" replacement isn't that easy. I guess with technology someone may 3d print one (beyond me) ?? Does anyone know of a replacement seat?

My first WIP post here as I usually frequent another forum but have decided to diversify; this might amuse some of you on here. A couple of years ago I set about making a 1/1 scale ejection seat to use in my modelling room - not to eject through through the roof mind but as a chair to sit on and use. I started off with the base of my old office chair which has a height adjuster built in, so like a demented squirrel in later Summer I started scavenging around for household items which might be of use. I also went to the local Homebase and bought some MDF sheet. I'm no engineer so the whole project was to be measured by eye and guesswork, here's how it progressed: The office chair base provided a deal of structural strength for the build and allowed for the ejector seat to literally be built from the bottom up. You can see the black lever to raise or lower seat. Most of the carcass was MDF or stripwood but my workroom was filling up fast all sorts of really useful - crap: You get the idea. The seat I was trying to copy was the Martin Baker GRU-7A as found in the Grumman F-14A Tomcat. Above is the mdf marking out for the top of the seat parts and this is it cut out: I also bought shares in Evergreen plastic or at least it seemed like it. A pair of combats cut and sewed to mimic the drogue chute as seen from above the headrest. The actual build was enjoyable what wasn't fun was the traipsing around a local car boot sale and buying rather dubious and suspect clothing items which could be used. The foam was bought from good old fleabay.
