  1. Hi Back to my archive shelves - the old Airfix kit of Savoia SM 79 Sparviero. I made it in two appearances - first as almost OOB (with some work anyway - mostly around engines and new decals), markings of 283 Squadron, 130 Gruppo Autonomico, Reggia Aeronautica, Medditerranean area, June 1942. I made her many years ago - roughly lets say 20: Since I really do like making scratch conversions I made also a second model - a two-engined version of SM 79 JRS in markings of 3rd Corpus of Royal Romanian AF, Eastren Front, 1943. Now there is a model of this machine by Azur-Fromm... Here is my scratch work: Could be a play- "find 100 details in which those models are different" I hope you like it, but criticism welcome! Regards Jerzy-Wojtek
  2. I'm new to this site, and just back into modeling (thanks COVID-19!) after 20 years or so away! I always loved it as a teenager, but turns out it's every bit as fun as an adult. Plus, more patience and more cash really make the hobby a lot more interesting. Still, for now I'm sticking to OOB and (mostly) brush painting. We'll see if the hobby sticks after this pandemic is behind us... I've benefited a lot from these forums over the last few months, and want to join in the fun. On the bench (i.e., my late grandmother's old dining room table) as of yesterday is Airfix's classic, 1967 Savoia-Marchetti SM.79 in 1/72 scale. I bought it not realizing it was from 1967, so was a bit worried once I figured that out. The instructions are certainly rough, but the model itself doesn't seem so bad, at least so far. Certainly a lot of flash, but nothing a little sanding and snipping can't handle at this point. Details (especially the cockpit) are sparse, and I've read there are accuracy issues with the "hump," but these are not things I worry about too much at this stage of my re-launched modeling "career." As I said, I am mostly brush painting, but I bought a can of Tamiya's AS-16 to blast it with as a primer and to use on the underside. It was -20 degrees C here in Edmonton today, but I braved it long enough to give most of the model a few coats.
