The second of this years finished Phantoms and this one is from Eduards Good Morning Da Nang kits. This one is VF111 'Sundowners' from the USS Coral Sea March 1972. These kits from Eduard are great - with all the aftermarket you need and a great range of options as regards schemes. I bought this for £39 at the time! Back in the day when I was collecting die cast I had the Corgi version of this machine but I never thought it did it justice and always planned to try and do a version in 1:48 The decals are great although as with any phantom the stencils are tedious! Paints are Mr Color and Alclad for the metal parts. It is number 6 of 6 F4's I have built and I have two more to do at some point

Hi all! Well after over 2/3 months of work I can finally and proudly present my version of a VF-111 Sundowners F-14a. This is my first ever RFI and my second 1/48 model. As you will see if you haven't been following my WIP I have opened up a good few panels and decided to put a lot of the model out on show. The kit is out of the box but the Eduard kit does include a lot of goodies such as the cockpit, wheels, exhausts and some PE. All this combined with some scratch built details and you have the below. I hope you enjoy the photos...however I must apologies for the quality/angles/lighting. I do not have a photo booth/materials to create one, or the space for one so if you want to see anything in any detail that I may have left out just let me know on here and I will gladly take a picture and upload it! Ok so lets get to it. General Overview: Top side: From End: Underside: Other detail/feature shots: Extended Wings Glove vanes: As always with my threads all questions, comments, advice, critiques or just a bit of chat is more than welcome and encouraged!! Always happy to share my train of thought and techniques with anyone who is willing to listen to me. Thanks for looking! Ian

So finally I've got round to posting this, I got the Academy 48 Phantom in Hannants when it was a rather exciting new kit and have held onto it since then. When this came out it was a challenger to the Hasegawa monopoly on this aircraft in the scale and apart from the dodgy multi-coloured plastic it looks like a rather good kit (in particular the munitions included) so I've elected to turn down the aftermarket offerings already springing up and build it OOB. It will only be my second 1/48 build, so I'm looking forward to it! -Flash

Welcome to my latest project: the Academy 1:48 F14A Grumman Tomcat 'Sundowners', limited edition. Now I know that this kit has come into some critisicm regarding the nose, but having researched the other kits available they all have thier own problems, so I went with the kit with one of the most striking schemes out there; and to be honest if it looks like an F14 then thats good enough for me! Like most of my builds I have upgraded the cockpit with the excellent Aires resin tub and photo etch along with thier exhaust cans. Other wise it will be straight out of the box.
