  1. Hi everyone This is my 1/72 Su-24 by Trumpeter. The kit has nice recessed panel lines and rivets. The fit was good apart from the intakes and the nose which had a bit of sanding required. The landing gear were well detailed as well as the landing gear bays which had raised rivets and structure. Ak real colours Mig 31/25 was used for the grey and white primer for the underside. The decals were good but the stars and bull wouldn't conform to the panel lines and rivets even after many applications of micro sol. In the end, I just pushed the decal into the rivets with a needle. I mixed black and raw umber oil paints for the grey areas and highly diluted raw umber for the white areas. I had found some nice pictures which showed a really dirty underside near the engines which I decided to experiment and the results came out ok. The kit also came with many options for weapons but in the end I decided to just use the fuel tanks. Thanks for looking
  2. Hi everyone, this is my 1/72 Zvezda MI-26 of the Russian Air force. The kit was great quality with lots of detail. The inside was very detailed with lots of structure and the tail rotor drive shaft visible. Fitting everything in the fuselage halves was easier than I expected and was a quick process. The only fitting problems I had was the two engine air intakes which didn’t align properly with the engine covers. The rotor blades had strong joins to the rotor hub and came pre bent. I did accidently break one of the joins to the hub but managed to glue it on correctly. I sprayed it with a dark eggplant grey and air superiority blue on a small bump on the bottom and where the tail rotor gearbox is. The kit came with only two red stars when pictures showed it having a third one on the underside. I found a spare decal and tried to apply it to the underside. Due to what I think is structural support, the decal had difficulty conforming so I had to remove it. I then traced the stars that came with the kit and created a mask. It worked well but there were areas where the red paint had sprayed in to the white. I was going to redo it, but it is barely visible when the model is the correct way up. I bought the Begemot 1/72 Russian Air Force insignia decal set so I could create the aircraft Rf-06801. I took the blue 07 from the 1/72 Zvezda Mi-24 kit, it was a bit bigger than the one on the real aircraft but looked fine. In the pictures where four small red tabs on each wheel which I made from the red border on the decals sheet. In pictures of over MI-26, they had lots of streaks of faded paint. I tried to recreate this by covering the area in thinner and brushing white oil paint onto that are. It turned out well and gave a subtle effect. I finally added the doors and used a drill to spin copper wire together to look like the rope holding the doors. Thanks for looking
  3. Hi Brit and other modelers! Recently I finished working on another one of my Sukhoi projects. This time I chose my first two-seater, technology demonstrator for the Chinese PLAAF. The reason why I chose simple gray paint scheme instead of more attractive colorful schemes is because this two-color scheme better showcases the aircrafts beautiful shape. My next project will be a Su-35S and the paint scheme will be very similar. This particular aircraft has the blue "372" number on side of both intakes, and it got that number during the Paris airshow. I think that Trumpeter did a great job but some corrections were needed, together with some detailing. Also I added a fuel bowser (ICM - ATZ-5-4320), and I 100% scratch built the fire extinguisher as the last finishing detail. I hope you will enjoy the photos of this beautiful plane in real life, and I hope you will enjoy my recreation of it. The real deal: My take: 1) Pilots with ground crew are waiting for "502 white" to land. The finished cockpit, it's pretty hard to see when the canopy is mounted:
  4. Hi everyone This is my 1/72 Amodel AN-26RT. This kit had the worst fit I have ever dealt with. The fuselage had huge gaps along the top and in between the wings. The inside had a lot of detail, but you cannot see a lot of it. I forgot to add weight to the nose after sealing the fuselage, so I had to open the nose a fill it with weights. The panel lines where very shallow and some needed to be re scribed. I painted it in light ghost grey for the main body and medium sea grey for the nose. The decals did not conform well even after applying micro sol a few times. Thanks for looking
  5. Hi all. My latest aircraft build is the Trumpeter 1/48 MiG-21UM trainer. I always liked the twoseater more than the single-seater. Trumpeter's kit looks very nice and builds without any major problems. If you want to put the canopies in open position you have to make some provisions yourself. I wanted a weathered, well used look on this model. Besides airbrushing faded colors, I used a wash and oil paints to give it a more beaten up appearance. The colors are Gunze Aqueous over an Alclad Black primer. Kit decals were used for this build. Thanks for watching. René.
