  1. Good afternoon all, here is my latest completion. The upper surfaces paints are from the AK Real Colors set for the Luftwaffe 1960s and 1970s and the underside is Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium. The stencil decals are from the Revell boxing and the main decals are from APC Decals via hobbyshop.cz. hobbyshop.cz have a number of decal sheets replicating many of the old Matchbox and Heller/Smer kit decals. They are printed on extremely thin continuous film decal paper and the colours are very opaque. They adhere beautifully on a gloss surface and react perfectly to Micro Set and Sol. Because the film is so thin they do not respond kindly to handling on the model and need to be floated into just about the right position and very gently floated if adjustments are needed, but don't try big adjustments or they'll stretch or fold in to themselves. I found out the hard way and had to purchase a second set, but they're relatively inexpensive (even with postage), definitely worth it and delivery is quicker than from some UK suppliers. The windscreen fit is appalling and lots of filling, sanding and polishing was required. Additional interior detail is limited to front seatbelts from foil and the Revell instrument panel decal; nothing can be seen of the cabin. Steps and fin aerials are from copper wire and the pitot is brass tube with NiSi wire inside. The wire aerial is Ezline Fine. There is no landing light cut-out on the kit so this was added with a little-lenses 'light' and clear tape for the cover. The forward blade aerial is a piece of plasticard and the anti-col light is from stretched clear sprue with Tamiya clear-red to give colour. Here's the model...
  2. And here is number two for my contribution to the GB, a Buckeye trainer of the US Navy. Two straightforward sprues in white plastic, which is just as well as the airframe is nearly all white. Nicely moulded but as a reasonably early MB kit the panel lines are a little deep. Instructions still MB style on a large single sheet of paper Single clear, although a little thick canopy and large transfer sheet. Markings for a US jet and a camouflaged Greek version.
  3. Number three in the GB is the Revell rebox of the Monty's Caravan kit. I had started to paint the sprues before the GB stated but nothing's off the sprue and nothing glued so is well below the twenty five percent rule. On three dark green plastic sprues which will be a challenge to paint methinks. and the classic MB diorama base Instructions are still the Matchbox style in a Revell booklet. And a small transfer sheet with options for a Western Desert or NW Europe finish for both the Caravan and Scout car. I'll build it out of the box but will probably glaze the windscreen and Caravan windows.
  4. My next build, as chosen by my two boys, is Monogram's 1:72 Twin Mustang F-82G. It appears to be a Revell kit, reboxed by Monogram. I plan to build the kit straight from the box, using Vallejo acrylics in place of Revell. Lets get down to business and see whats in the box. The box art is pretty basic, and once open there is again a basic black and white instruction sheet. There is a small decal sheet with the option of 2 liveries. There are 5 grey sprues, these have some flash and some detailing (most of the panel lines are raised). I have already given the sprues a wash, and the interior sections a coat of Vallejo primer. I am looking forward to any challenges the kit may throw at me, and can't wait to get started.
